1. No, I don’t think so, unless it was subconscious. But then again I don’t think I’m drafting anything that would give me music cred so probably not. Now you’re asking in more of a “should I litter the playlist?” way....I don’t know people could always skip if they really didn’t like it.

2. No. None of the live albums I took are greatest hits type albums. I just like live music. Of course that doesn’t always translate to vinyl but I think mine we’re all good albums not just good live albums.

1) not at all

2) Metallica was bang for buck as it was either this or Garage Days. Tedeschi Trucks Band I prefer the live cuts on this album over studio and Kiss Alive!  is a great album and partially recorded in Detroit. I've listened to alot of live stuff for this draft and alot if it just doesn't cut it.

Alright, I guess I will dip back into the 70s.   I decided I needed some of these guys, but had a hard time narrowing down a couple albums I really liked.  In the end I thought one had great highs, but one very skippable song I hate and the other wasn't consistent top to bottom like this was, so...

What song do you hate on Vol4?

 
Someone should really do a 2019 album poll guys. I had a tough time choosing between this and their 2017 album. This one up the synths a bit, while keeping all the charm and catchy tunes. The first one is amazing too, impressive that they were able to improve on it. Song picks give a taste of the new (Young Enough is the best song they've ever made) and old (Hard to Believe would fit in as a single on Guppy.

All 3 (Joel, Mayer, and Seger) are substantially better live than in studio and each are littered throughout my playlists. 

There are artists I opted not to draft because I didn't get what I wanted from the studio and saw their live albums as cop-outs.

I think there are several in here who would dig on that though.   Some more growling/death metal I dont think anybody would bother with, so I chose to skip if I thought there might be something on my list that might be new and someone would dig.

I'm the opposite.  I disabled my touchpad and bought an old Thinkpad specifically because I loved the eraserhead thingie on my old work laptop.

ETA:  if you're a touch typist, it's great to never have to leave the home keys

I do have a big soft spot for the '81 album too, but yeah - I hate Changes and Sabotage was the inconsistent one, but love a couple tracks.

I've always thought Presence gets kind of a bad rap.  Side 1 is solid and Bonzo is in tremendous form. 

My theory is the Psygnosis album cover hurts its reputation; i looks too much like Wish You Were Here.  People would dig it more if it had a darker album cover.

Grateful Dead    One From The Vault - favorite album of all time, love these versions of these songs
Neil Young    Live Rust - kind of a combination here, wouldn't have been my first NY pick, but some damn fine songs here
Allman Bros    Live at Ludlow Garage - had this album forever ago, but hardly listened to it, this is more of a "grab what's left" thing
Tedeschi Trucks Band    Live From The Fox Oakland - way better live, love the sound of the crowd, better jamming by Trucks
Saunders/Garcia    Live at Keystone - love this album. I don't think they did any studio albums together
Widspread Panic    Light Fuse Get Away - prefer this well beyond any studio albums
 

 
Alright, there's one of my top ten listened to artists that I don't have on my island yet. It's another early-00s indie rock album, because of course it is. I might stack the 8 best songs on this one against anything else in their catalog. At the same time I also considered taking one of their newer ones. Bejar and Case as full timers here and near their peak is the tie breaker.

48.18 - Symphony or Damn - Terence Trent D'Arby (1992)

TTD's first four albums for Columbia are all fascinating but two of them, his debut and this his third, are sensational. 

He's pretty much the textbook case of an artist's ego destroying a promising career but an artist would have to have huge self-belief to take the wild swings TTD does.  Or he could be crazy which is also a distinct possibility.  Either way, massive talent, massive headcase, great album.

1. I moved an album back in the draft order because it wouldn't fit the mix but otherwise no.

2. Cheap Trick at Budokan improves on the studio versions.  I always thought their first two albums were hurt by thin production.  I also drafted REM's Live at the Olympia because I love the relaxed vibe of the album.  Individual songs probably aren't better than their studio versions but it has an incredible career spanning setlist.
