How many albums and how are the album selections made?

@Raging weasel let me know if you want any suggestions or types of music you want to explore. I’m sure most of my stuff is pretty well known but I have a few thoughts depending on what you’re looking for.

Im excited to visit @krista4 ‘s island. Lots of new stuff for me there.

13.23 - Ocean of Sound - David Toop (1996)

My original plan was to draft compilations through round 20 but too much good stuff is coming off the board so I've had to reset the gimmick to destruct in round 15.  But first I'm going to get weird--it won't be great for the mix but the songs are short.

Ocean of Sound is a compilation by English author and DJ David Toop.  It was created as a soundtrack to his book Ocean of Sound: Aether Talk, Ambient Sound and Imaginary Worlds, which examined music as a medium for deep mental involvement.  Toop blends Ambient, Free Jazz, Classical, Shoegaze, Rock, Dub Reggae along with field recordings of seals and wind chimes, etc..  Somehow it manages to all flow together like a river to the sea.

I think the two of you who aren't laughing at my foolishness will really like it.  It's an astonishing listen.  There's a playlist on Spotify with about half of the tracks but not Toop's graceful transitions.  The genuine article is available for listening and download here.

Dub Fi Gwan - King Tubby

Virgin Beauty - Ornette Coleman & Prime Time
Rolled a 13 on the randomizer and got this, which looks completely amazing tbh and right up my alley. Can't wait to dig in

@Eephus Please give me another suggestion from your island. no rules...whatever you are feeling at the moment

Eta: I think the only one that I would say I'm thoroughly knowledgeable of is new order substance

Like I said above - this is a free for all.  I personally think 4-6 is good, but if people are busy and can't to that many albums, cool - no pressure.

Selection is the same - it's up to you.   Pick stuff you've been meaning to get to or have never heard, ask the person for a couple suggestions, use a number randomizer or ask me to do so for you.. whatever.     In the end I just want this to be fun, relaxing, and to keep us out of the PSF.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiice!  :hifive:

@Uruk-Hai I'm going to choose Black Joe & The Honey Bears for my first dive into your Island. I liked the song I heard on the shuffle and made a mental note about listening to the full record anyway. If you have suggestions for some, that would be great.

ETA: It says self-titled on spreadsheet but it seems those songs are on "Tell ‘em what your name is”. I only see a self titled EP on Spotify. I’m listening to this (“Tell ‘em”) album now and will base my review on that.

1.  Look at the albums Marco drafted

2.  Decide on some albums to listen to  by any means you see fit.

3.  post thoughts, length of post matters not.
i would like @The Dreaded Marco to suggest 1 or 2, i will randomize 1 or 2, and pick 1 or 2 on my own. cool?

ETA: a rough check shows me that his island mostly has a lot of 21st C darlings that i dont like or dont know, so it should be fun

Oooooo, I hope you enjoy my island.  Be careful of the grizzlies, though!  I remember liking a lot of your picks, so I hope that will be a good sign.  Let me know if you need me to put together a list of them all.  I didn't keep a running tally so would need to sort the spreadsheet...or maybe let @Binky The Doormat do that.

I'm very excited to visit @Steve Tasker's island!  My plan is to listen to two I choose, two he chooses, and two randomly selected.  I want to have the random ones selected first - @KarmaPolice, would you mind doing that for me?

On my phone the drafter isn't listed on the spreadsheet, can you send me your list of albums along with a suggestion or 2?

Just need to go ahead and finish up. I'll take:

The Miles Davis Quintet - Workin' (1960)

Technically not doubling up, right? I need that classic quintet on my island. I chose this one primarily because of "It Never Entered My Mind" as it's Miles at his most accessible and shouldn't be too damaging to the playlist.

It Never Entered My Mind

@krista4 - I will do that in a few mins when I get inside.

Plenty to like from Otb__lifer's list, but some stuff I'm just kinda familiar. Couple on there I have never heard before.

Hey RW.  I'll pick two and you pick two?

I had 5 or 6 of these on my list of potential picks.

I'm only unfamiliar with 2 of your artists.  (as in, I've never heard a single song by them as far as I know).

And didn't you pick 30 albums?  I'm only counting 29 here.

I do want a jazz album, so would love a suggestion there.  Not willing to risk the country or Dylan on a shuffle though.  ;)
Bill Evans - Pyramid Song

Brubeck - Creep

In a Silent Way - Reckoner

Workin' - High and Dry

Black Saint - The National Anthem

I just kinda tossed this off, but to give you some idea about what you'd be getting into...

Forgot Wes Montgomery. It's got guitar solos, so might be the way to go for you.

@Bonzai - I highlighted the ones that I had written down.  There is a varying degree of familiarity from just a passing knowledge, maybe heard a couple songs, to flat out having 0 clue what they are.   I was thinking about going 3 and 3 - so what 3 would you suggest?

Okkervil River - The Stage Names

interesting way to put this.  Very intrigued now, and might do some extra credit.
