DI Jukebox Draft (66-15)- Listen up (3 Viewers)

Pure all-time classic. Wasn't sure if we were doing the pre-'66 pick thing, so I didn't even have it on the list, but I did look it up.
One of the 10 best rock songs of all time. That organ solo kills me and to think it was totally improvised on the spot in 1 take.
Yeah man, that organ solo just complements the yearning quality of the song so perfectly.

13.20 The Cars - Just What I Needed (1978)
I love Orr's vocals, and what a great debut album this song is off of . Ric Ocasek has to be one of the most unselfish musicians with how he was so willing to let the better singer, which was Orr, sing some of Ric's best songs, when Ric had the vocals to do it himself.

Yup, four a day is just too rushed, particularly with a three-day weekend coming up. I'd really like to us scale back to two for Friday through Monday and then see where we are.
Today doesn't seem rushed to me at all. I think there is more conversation when picks are made. Of course that is just my opinion. JML asked yesterday about if people who want four picks a day just want to make their picks or are they also adding commentary and listening to the songs, and I think that is a strange question coming from someone that lives on autoskip, and isn't here that much. I also notice that some that have fallen behind have been around over the last few days and have been posting in other threads, but just not posting in here. That's their choice.
I am only one drafter. There are 30+ of us. I make a point of commenting on a few picks every day and i am in this thread for at least an hour a day, but if we stick with 4 a day, i will make my picks, spend 2 minutes in the thread and #### off. Just like everyone else will. Happens every draft where we speed up so everyone can race to the finish
I'm with him. We're making two picks a day, and it's fun. So making four picks a day will make it funner? Nope.

I like listening to the songs with the commentary. I like thinking about my picks. Otherwise, it's just another medley of twenty second song samples.

I have no 90s songs yet and considering I attended middle school and high school during that period, I should be able to pick out some legendary songs for my jukebox from the decade.

12_A

Pure hard rock goodness.

1990- The Black Crowes Twice as Hard

12_B

Yeah, this song is dedicated to all the those drafters that said my draft would never amount to nothin', to all the all the posters that replied in threads above the threads I was posting in that reported to the mods on me when I was just tryin' to get change to feed my jukebox, and all the FBGS in the Shark Pool, you know what I'm sayin'?

1994- Notorious B.I.G. Juicy

we haven't quite made it to the partridge family yet.
Dude, don't make me pick a Partridge Family song, because I will totally do that.

I have no idea the context or what I was trying to say in my last post in here, nor do I remember posting it. I'll catch up all my picks tonight and should be around moving forward.

Really don't know what pick this is. Looks like somebody got a little carried away sorting the spreadsheet, and I'm in no shape to unsort.

Beginning around the age of five I was a music geek, getting in "trouble" for changing the radio station when my parents weren't looking, but I can actually pinpoint one song that pushed me beyond geekdom and transformed me into a dirty snob.

PICK: Rattlesnakes by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, 1984

A friend had introduced me to LC&tC circa 1985 and I remembered liking the band, but it was around 1989 I went searching and rediscovered the band - and I then began to let my snob flag fly.

13.xx Echo & the Bunnymen - Never Stop (1983)

13.xx Sugar - A Good Idea (1992)
Copper Blue is so damn good.On that note, guess I'll make my round 13 picks.

Round 13

Sugar, Helpless (1992)

TV On The Radio, Staring At The Sun (2004)

I did consider a couple of other Sugar songs, but much as I'd like to go with picks I haven't made in previous drafts, in many cases it seems unavoidable. It would seem disingenuous on my part not to pick the songs I like best, even if it gets repetitive. :)

With "Staring at the Sun", I'm taking the album version with the long intro, 'cause it's a sick build-up. Waited on this one for a good long while as I mulled it over, because my plan-B track for 2004 is soooooooooo cooooooooooooool. Might be more of a speeding-on-the-highway-at-night song, though.
Sweet pair. That sugar tune really takes you back to that time period.

That's a great album.

I don't know what to do about the spreadsheet. It's messed up beyond my ability to repair. We've already reverted twice and another one will put us even further behind.

At this point, I'm wondering if it would be easier for everyone to repost all their picks to this thread and I can copy/paste them into a new sheet. Acer and others who know what they're doing are invited to chime in with bright ideas.

What will the last reversion take us back to? I read very quickly and have some time (read: am procrastinating on a work project) right now, and can probably re-enter everything relatively quickly.

I reverted to 10AM PST today. I'm not sure how many round 12 picks were input prior to that save point.

I will add a column for cumulative pick number that can be used to resort from in the future.

Eephus,

Do you want me to send you my 12th and 13th rounds?

I think I can upload a new sheet to the main one, and you can move the stuff over.

Check Sheet 10...

THE VAPORS - NEWS AT TEN -1980

TheVaporsLink

Their album New Clear Days doesn't have a bad song on it and this is my favorite. If you only know them from Turning Japanese I highly recommend checking out the album .Their second album was meh but still don't know what happened . The wheels just fell off the wagon

OASIS-####IN' IN THE BUSHES 2000

weputthisfestivalonforyoubastards

I'll admit it , I love Oasis. If I was a MMA fighter , this would be my entrance song , if I was a MLB player , it would be my walk up song

Really loving this power pop slab o' song right here.

I haven't looked at it in detail but the spreadsheet is sort of fixed.

I reverted to before the round 13 picks, got rid of the blank fields in column C and added a red Column D that can hopefully can be used to resort the draft in case it gets screwed up again.

If you want to re-sort or just view your picks, use the Filter arrow drop-downs in Row #1.

12.21b - Where the Streets Have No Name - U2 - 1987

U2 - well, I had to fit that arrogant ########## Boner into this jukebox somehow.
Great pick, but this narrative about Bono bugs me.What major rock star or sports star isnt arrogant?

Mick Jagger, John Lennon, Michael Jordan etc

Bono raises a lot of money to help SICK and DYING people all over the world, has the ear of world leaders and does something about issues that most people close their eyes and wish wasnt true. He has seen these on the front line and used his fame for a lot of bloody good. But hey he wears ####### sunglasses.
Its the way he treats people around him or "under" him also. I have no use for people like that. Remember when that guy sang his part in the Christmas song because he was like four hours late? He was such a biotch. My man Win is always out in the crowd, thanking everyone, and raising $$ for Hati. Other then stealing that guys basketball ;-) he's a saint.
Bono is the only one ever to put himself on a pedestal and treat people under him horribly.Bono's lateness because he over commits to causes and issues is legendary. Bono and the Edge had a massive punch up for a Glasgow gig I went to. He was busy meeting/lecturing world leaders in Edinburgh about boring things like famine, aids etc and turned up to the gig late. Edge was not amused.

You have your issues with Bono, fine, but cast that same eye over others far less deserving.
I'm way more liberal than Boner. He does some good things, I just hate him and the whole U2 scene now.

I have to agree. I like GNR and Axl and Slash have never been known as saints nor punctual in Axl's case. I like Morrissey and have most of The Smiths and his solo work - but I hear he is an ##### to fans. Plenty of artists I own are dead due to drugs and just about every band that breaks up ever is due to someone's ego getting in the way. I still don't care, and Bono does more philanthropic and humanitarian work than the vast majority of artists.
I hate Axl too.

I don't want anywhere near that spreadsheet

Here are my two rounds...

12.13

1994 - The Man Who Sold The World (Acoustic) - Nirvana

I'll get my Bowie pick with another song that when released, most in the pop music world didn't know was a cover.

1996 - Virtual Insanity - Jamiroquai

Electronic Dance-ish music doesn't normally fit into my wheelhouse. For some reason I love this song; I also love the video, the way they made it so the floor could move was clever.

Saw him at a Clinton Inauguration event (1996 I think), standing in the back entrance (I was going to be checking coats) waiting to get in, never noticed how tall he was before. He was head and shoulders above everybody. I guess when you are only seen at a piano, you never see height.
