DI Jukebox Draft (66-15)- Listen up (1 Viewer)

Okay. The sheet is completely updated now, right up to JML's last two picks (Wir Sind Helden and Saint Etienne). All backpicks submitted today are also up on the sheet.

We are in Round 13. Not sure what the rules are tomorrow.

A lot of people owe previous picks or they were not entered when made (I started my review of posts from 9 AM PST today). For example, Northern Voice owes a bunch as does John Bender. Mrs. R was making what I thought were Round 13 picks today, but has no Round 12 picks listed on the sheet. I highlighted all picks owed before Round 13.

THE VAPORS - NEWS AT TEN -1980

TheVaporsLink

Their album New Clear Days doesn't have a bad song on it and this is my favorite. If you only know them from Turning Japanese I highly recommend checking out the album .Their second album was meh but still don't know what happened . The wheels just fell off the wagon

OASIS-####IN' IN THE BUSHES 2000

weputthisfestivalonforyoubastards

I'll admit it , I love Oasis. If I was a MMA fighter , this would be my entrance song , if I was a MLB player , it would be my walk up song
Nice pick with Oasis. That was my planned 2000 pick and figured that one was going to be there.

TV On The Radio,

I took a roundabout way to appreciating TVOTR. Bought Desperate Youth... with no clue as to what I was getting, gave it a cursory listen and got just a few songs in before dropping it. Wasn't in the right frame of mind, or even paying much attention. Then I downloaded Return to Cookie Mountain when it came out, and "Wolf Like Me" kicked my ### right away. Got the actual album and played the hell out of that. I can jam to it beginning-to-end. Then I got back to Desperate Youth and Young Liars with a whole new appreciation. Oh, and it helped that I'd heard them live by then, and they rock in a live setting. "Staring at the Sun" and "Wolf Like Me" are easy favorites, but yeah, they have a lot of good stuff.

Round 12a - Run Runaway - Slade (1984)

This has sentimental value for me. Mr R couldn't believe that I knew this song. I don't think they play Slade much in The Country.

Round 12b - Party/Khashoggi's Ship - Queen (1989)

These are joined on the album, so I think of them as joined like siamese twins.
AA, you mean these Round 12 picks?
You are correct; sorry. I put them in Round 13. Fixing. ETA: and now they're in Round 12.

13.26 Blind Faith, "Can't Find My Way Home" (1969)

This classic from one of the many incarnations of Steve Winwood-led groups in this era still resonates today. In fact, because of the head voice vocal it sounds to some extent like something that could have been released in 2015. Terrific percussion part by Ginger Baker behind what is probably one of the most notably successful early attempts to fuse blues and rock. Too bad this group was a single-shot.

13.xx Toad the Wet Sprocket, "Fall Down" (1994)

One of my favorite bands from my between-college-and-grad-school years. I could have picked ten songs by them, but blocked myself from many of those early in this draft. This one is probably not even the best known track from the album from which it hails, but it speaks to me because it's one of the few songs I ever sang lead on in a performance in front of more than a handful of people. I like the theme, the typically supporting (but still noticeable) keyboards, the slightly distorted jangling guitars owing something to R.E.M., and the pulsing bass line (not all that easy to cover while singing lead, as it turns out), which gets a nice little spotlight at 2:13. Great vocals by all three of the singers, too.

I wonder what people are sorting the sheet looking for that is not already sorted

If you give me an idea, I might be able to add another sheet for you.

Eephs with a good idea with the red column. Thanks AA for helping out. Not my sheet, but I feel semi responsible for it after plugging in the formulas

I love Fall Down.

Maiden voyage into it was on my phone where the formula buttons were on the top of the screen. Next time I tried was on my laptop they weren't there so I just assumed they were removed, so I sorted. Didn't realize they were on the bottom until I went in a third time

I'll handle the formatting and links later, but here.

Round 9

The Wrens, Hopeless (2003)

M83, Midnight City (2011)

Not sure if there are any Wrens fans in this draft, much less ones willing to pick them, but Meadowlands is massive for me, and one of my favorite albums of all time, so here it is. Incredibly cathartic sing-along.

As for M83, I love a bunch of their songs since day one, and much like 2003, I had other choices lined up for 2011, but this seems like the best fit.

I'll make my round 10 picks soon enough.
I saw the Wrens pick here got a lot of love, but that M83 song is so good. I love that band so much.

HRC IT may be hiring soon. :)

I really wanted The Weight in 1968. Couldnt get it. I could however take it in 1978. But I will try to stay true and go with a different Band song from The Last Waltz.

13.30 b) The Band- Up On Cripple Creek, 1978

Lots of late night action. Thanks AA, looks like we're back in biz. Out of likes.

Friday rules are the same as today.

One round in the AM

One round after 4PM EST

Back to one round per day over the three day weekend

I am ducking hammeredc and owe picks, I think. Last year I saw Brandon Flowers live. Whatever, Europe loves him, NA hates him anyway who am I to say your whole country is wrong?
:lmao: :lmao: I figured this out. It was in reference to the Don't Change pick. What I wanted to say was I saw Brandon Flowers last year and he said "We're going to do a cover song next, do you want to hear 'Don't Change' (one of my favourite songs ever) or 'Simply Irresistible' (which of course the festival crowd went nuts for)". Then he proceeded to play 'Read My Mind'.

...and then he played Simply Irresistible, but man I wish he'd played Don't Change.

11.24 "All You Zombies" - The Hooters (1985)

The mid-'80s lacked cohesion in terms of genres, so going with a couple of memorable tunes. "Sister Christian" arguably set off the power ballad craze that followed. "All You Zombies" was one of the better reggae-tinged tunes that were hitting the mainstream at time.
I heard this song for the first time through one of our past drafts and it went straight to my favourites playlist and will remain in regular rotation indefinitely.

You're welcome. Went very quickly. Thanks for the Friday/weekend rules clarification.

Round 12

Spoon,

My wife got me an iPod classic a few years back (160 GB to replace my 80 in the golden age of music stealing). She had it engraved with lyrics from TWWGB on the back, Spoon are my favourite band to listen to on album (there are others that are better to see live IMO) and that's probably my favourite song of theirs - I decided a while back in this one to go with a song from a different album to make sure I fit in all the bands/songs I want on here from the 00s or I would have taken it a while ago.

I have probably told this story before, but my favourite live band are Arkells and The Hold Steady. A couple years ago i saw Arkells in my hometown in a small club show and they were playing 'John Lennon' (my 6th round pick), and flawlessy transitioned into a cover of The Way We Get By. I think I legitimately teared up. Music is incredible.
