Let's float away like Zeppelins
On stoic gusts of Northern winds

Round 9

The Wrens, Hopeless (2003)

M83, Midnight City (2011)

Not sure if there are any Wrens fans in this draft, much less ones willing to pick them, but Meadowlands is massive for me, and one of my favorite albums of all time, so here it is. Incredibly cathartic sing-along.

As for M83, I love a bunch of their songs since day one, and much like 2003, I had other choices lined up for 2011, but this seems like the best fit.

I'll make my round 10 picks soon enough.
A+ on both of these, and also to Rockaction's picks, which I didn't quote.

I've tried deftones a bunch of times especially white pony I just don't get it. Totally in my wheelhouse but does nothing for me.

Can anyone take a PM? Going to the Sabres game in a little bit with my old man. He'll be disappointed that someone picked a Boston song and it wasn't me.

Eeph, when are we stopping for the night? Trying to get through Round 10 to have the two-picks-a-day format starting tomorrow make more sense (starting it at the beginning of a round as opposed to in the middle)?

The Wrens!!! Wow. Strong.
when I looked to see what I picked in the mother of all album drafts from 2007, I was surprised that I drafted this album somewhere in the late 40s rounds. Its reputation has steadily increased since then so it's almost legendary now.

This kind of goes back to my Lauryn Hill theory. If The Wrens had released a mildly disappointing follow-up in 2005, I think Hopeless wouldn't be as highly regarded today. It would still be a great album but there are lots of bands with a great debut and diminishing returns after that.

Huge Wrens fan. Meadowlands was my #1 album from that year.

Still waiting for that follow up album.........

I think we can keep the clock going til 8PM EST. Any outstanding 10th rounders can be made after that.

11th rounders will be handled sans draft order starting at sunrise tomorrow. Pick two songs and include your pick number in your post.

1974 - She's Gone - Hall and Oats

1976 - Rock and Roll Band - Boston

IMO one of the better debut albums of all time. It was a shame that they had to have those fights with their record company. They could have done so much more.
Brad Delp had a great vocal range.
Got to see them at the GAHden for the Third Stage tour in the mid 80s, great show. It is just such a shame that they had that 9 year hole between the second and third albums.

OK, there have been enough picks now. Anyone think they know my theme.

What time do bars open near you?

I think we're at a stage of the draft where you don't need to post at 12:01 AM. In fact, it would probably be better for the thread if people paced their picks a bit. I'm West Coast and it's not great for listening when I have to skim through two pages of early picks.

As always, relax nerds.

songs that have been on in my kitchen?

Ill hold onto it a bit longer. Realized after zam guessed that I might get sniped easier. I cant afford that

I guess it's time to make it rain.

Round 9a - Veteran of the Psychic Wars - Blue Öyster Cult (1981)

After all, what is life without unnecessary umlauts?

Round 9b - Soolaimon-Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show - Neil Diamond (1972)

From the album and concert "Hot August Night", one of the all-time great concerts. This really just doesn't sound like any studio recording, and I've always loved it.
9b definitely meets the definitive version criteria for live tracks.

Round 10a - Foreplay/Longtime - Boston (1976)

This album has stood the test of time for me, so I just had to have this. And it's a great jukebox song.

Round 10b - Ballroom Blitz - Tia Carrere (1992)

Loved the original by Sweet. Back when a new music video on MTV was a big thing, Mr R had no idea how I knew the lyrics to the song in the premiere of the video.

Told ya. It didn't even occur to me to question this. I was surprised when someone brought that up.

Diamond would have been an excellent choice as halftime entertainment for Super Bowl VI. I haven't heard that version of Brother Love for years. Man, it's XXL

Love that album (The Meadowlands) - all time top something-or-other for me.
