DI Jukebox Draft (66-15)- Listen up (3 Viewers)

Words cannot express my hatred for that New Radicals song.
 Nice, you didn't disappoint. Not a fan either
It would be on my soundtrack in hell. I would choose that Train song and their ####ty lyrics on a 10hour loop over one full listen of that New Radicals song.

Huh, I guess words can express my hatred for it... ;)
Don't give up KP. You've got the dreamer in you.
come around we'll kick your ### in
There's a good chance Tim might pick a Hanson song in the next few rounds.
Just to break the ice, I'll take a Hanson song next.

Go ahead and go Marco, and then I'll put up Taskers, and then the remaining people who owe for round 10 can go whenever they want.

I'll handle the formatting and links later, but here.

Round 9

The Wrens,

(2013)

I'm leaning toward one round per day starting on Wednesday. You can make your two picks at any time. Please try to include your pick number in your post.

We're still making good progress and have a ton of great chatter but the mechanics of managing the clock and skips are more trouble than they're worth IMO.

I think two picks a day are plenty for now since it's a journey not a race. Probably won't bump to three picks until after President's Day.
Sounds good, but I would consider 2 rounds/4songs. That has been about what the pace has been during the week.

it's kind of hard to tell when you're near the turn

Three Girl Rhumba assents.

Always did love this song.

I might be commenting on people's selections a lot, but at least they're all positive. :shrugs:

???

Just feels like I have been getting in 4 picks most of the time, but I could be off. No worries.

This long forgotten track is almost this antithesis of bombastic synth that Ultravox was delivering in 1984.

They roped in Celtic vocalist Mae McKenna for the vocals and it is almost out of place on side 2 of their Lament album.

It always struck me as an odd choice, but the older I get the more I like this song. More traditional than new wave and more of what Midge Ure would deliver in his solo material in the 90s and beyond.

Fantastic early Chinn/Chapman composition and production

WE WANT SWEET

WE WANT SWEET

WE WANT SWEET

Imagine the sensation
Of teenage occupation
At thirteen they'll be learnin'
But at fourteen they'll be burnin'

But there's somethin' in the air
Of which we all will be aware
But they don't care
No, no, no no no

I guess we could do two picks in the am and two in the pm. Does anybody other than KP have an opinion re: pace?

Well OK then.

Back to the days when the Clintons were popular...

1999- Backstreet Boys "I Want It That Way"

1998- Aerosmith "I Don't Want to Miss A Thing"

I dig [The] Sweet, but those lyrics are sounding a little Jared-y.
Imagine the microscope put on Michael Jackson turned on 60s and 70s rock acts.

Most Hall of Fame ceremonies would be in prison.

I've heard and read numerous stories of 13 and 14 year old groupies and the rock stars they bagged. These are the biggest acts possible too.

Seen as part of the times, but it's frightening in hindsight.

The Jimmy Saville story in Britain got the tip of the iceberg, but it was epidemic.

What's the rush? Let's just do two picks a day and see how it goes for a while. ETA: this does not apply to anyone who is already in the 30th round.

OK, I'll make my 10th rounders.

Really loved this bit of retro Outlaw Country from last year.

Sturgill Simpson -- Life of Sin -- 2014
Love this guy. Have you seen him live? His lead guitar player is fantastic and Sturgill is a great entertainer.
Afraid I was turned on to him about the same time the kid arrived, so I haven't gone to any concerts in a while. That Lithuanian guitarist is awesome.

9.29 Chavez - Unreal is here 1996

9.29 Folk Implosion - Pole Position 1997
I never heard of Chavez. Were they a big thing 20 years ago? The video shows them with gold records and playing big halls.

I think the mid-90s are my biggest gap in this era. We were raising babies and not going to shows. At the time, I was only aware of the really popular stuff and bands we liked before children. I've tried to catch up since but that's different than living through it.
Its a spoof of the big rock band videos.

Their guitar player Clay Tarver was in Bullet Lavolta. He wrote the jimmy the cabdriver commercials on mtv back in the day starring his college roommate Donal Logue (gotham) who worked sound for chavez later on. After chavez tarver went on to write/produce Silicon Valley for HBO.

Chavez's other guitarist and singer Matt Sweeney was in Zwan, Bonnie Prince Billie. He hooked up with Rick Rubin and played on the Cash albums he produced. Rubin also connected him with Neil Diamond and he played guitar on all songs of his Home Before Dark album. He is touring with Homme/Pop's upcoming tour. Sweeney has a youtube show where he hangs with guitarists and shows peeps how to play. Hes had billy gibbons and keith richards on there. Heres the one with Homme:

Thanks for the explanation. Had me fooled.

Steve Taskers jukebox songs

10.18 - You Keep Me Hangin' On - The Supremes (1966)

10.18 - One Love/People Get Ready - Bob Marley and the Wailers (1977)
And thank you to Simey for making my picks while I'm gone. No stories here, but happy to get some Diana Ross in the mix and add some more reggae flavor to the little bit of reggae I already have.

The Sabres lost 7-4, but Evander Kane won 3 fights, scored a goal, and got a game misconduct. Productive game, I'd say.
