DI Jukebox Draft (66-15)- Listen up (2 Viewers)

this new board is buggy as hell

buncha times I want to post a new reply and it has the old quote I made from a previous post and wont let me delete it

Yes he did. On the "Hello Its Me" I had to use the Nazz version (1968) based on wanting to get more songs in besides just the most recognized ones.  AND ...has anyone else seen albums slip out of Spotify in the last few days???

I lost ALL the Nazz albums except some new small compilation and a four song audition tape recording.  AND GDammit - both Bete Noire and Taxi dropped of for Bryan Ferry - they have been there forever!

####.
The Nazz albums are back on there. Spotify does weird stuff sometimes. The other day it wouldn't let me on certain names, but I could get on others. Use Todd's version of "Hello It's Me". It is too good not to do it.

21.1 - Meet me in the City by Junior Kimbrough, 1966

I've drafted this song a few times. Never gets old. He was a huge influence on The Black Keys and the North Mississippi All-Stars, and I'm gonna guess wildly that he had an effect on Jack White too.

I see 13th & Pine (some kind of compilation) and some other odd stuff.  Do you see either of these two albums?

Nazz - that has "Open My Eyes"

Nazz Nazz - has "Forget All About It"

26th(a):  DEEP PURPLE - Hush (1968)

LINK
Nice. Those early Deep Purple hits (this and "Kentucky Woman") were really good. And I think it taught them the nuts and bolts of good song composition for their later, more "classic" stuff.

Deep Purple occupies a really strange place in rock history. For people my age, they were part of the Holy Trinity of early-70s hard rock along with Zep & Sabbath. But their run in that role was so short (compared to the others) that they sort of got forgotten and lumped in with lesser talents like Bad Company or (God forgive me Mark, Donnie, Mel, and Craig) Grand Funk.

I'd argue, though, that they were way more influential going forward than either LZ or Black Sabbath - at least, among the commercially successful bands of the next couple of decades. Led Zeppelin had more finesse in their little fingers than most of the bands that followed could (or would) want to try & emulate, so no one really even tried. And Sabbath, Lord bless them, were basically a one-trick pony in comparison. The Purples, though..........

Their DNA is all over 80s rock. "Child In Time" is Iron Maiden's raison d'etre. "Highway Star" IS thrash, especially the 2nd half of the record. "My Woman From Tokyo" is Def Leppard a decade before they hit big.

Richie Blackmore taught every rock guitarist how to play a heavy rock solo, until Eddie Van Halen came along and ####ed it all up. I love EVH, but many of his solos had nothing to do with the melody of the song; Richie ALWAYS made his fit, and were just as thrilling.

Oh, and THAT riff. Everyone's tried to dress it up and recycle it since, but it's so primal that you know 1,000s of guitarists are like "####, how the hell do you top THAT?"

23a - Fabolous - "Breathe" (2004)

Pretty much the epitome of early-mid 2000s hip-hop, but it has held up much better than the rest of the stuff I listened to when I was 17.  Video featuring a young Bodie Broadus.

Got these broke #####s lookin at me like they chokin' on a chicken bone (BREATHE)
I believe if you know someone's user name, you can search it, then follow.

Mine is on Spotify but I can't seem to link it. Maybe someone can help. It's Dr. Oct's Jukebox Mix and is public.

No Neil Young, so I added a live cover of Rockin in the Free World by the Alarm. No Townes Van Zandt so I added an alternate version of Dead Flowers by the Stones. No Traveling Wilburys so a live version of Handle With Care by Tom Petty and it sounds like Jeff Lynne doing the Orbison part.

Also no Loretta Lynn/Jack White and since the only version was by the karaoke all stars, I just left that one off.
