DI Jukebox Draft (66-15)- Listen up (3 Viewers)

Who doesn't have Spotify or are not going to link that way?  I still want to listen to the mixes individually, so I will be trying create lists for people who don't have Spotify.  I can link any mixes I do, but will wait to know who isn't doing that way - no need to double up.

Spotify is free. Not sure why anyone wouldnt want to sign up for it. Its probably worth the 9.99 a month but I havent gone premium yet

Dunno.  Just saw a list or two linked in non-Spotify format, so I just assume some aren't making their mixes that way.

Binky - unless I missed it, I'm surprised you didn't do anything from The McCoys.

I will try to get my Spotify list up on Monday - busy weekend.

Thanks to Eeph and all for takin' care of business.
Good call - tight with Derringer too.  But by the time they came out with their first hit they are competing with the Beatles, The Who, etc. for a spot on the list.

My draft order was determinative in how the mix should be played on the juke, not the chronological playlist, and I can't figure out the formatting of this new board, so I'll post after the mulligans.
Join the club.  I hate it when we hate "upgrades" during drafts.

Yeah, that was basically the only wrinkle in what was otherwise a flawless, fantastic draft.

BTW I am a bit tired and probably have no plans to Spotify my mix.  I'll do it this week with iTunes and (gasp) a couple of CDs.  But if someone is making mixes, mine goes in chron order starting oldest (Yesterday) first.

I don't.  Mr R uses Pandora.  And I seem to be a Luddite- i play CD's.

I'm going to make my last picks now, and I have one mulligan.  I should be able to post my playlist with links then.  (This assumes i can figure out the formatting.)

I'll finish off my spotify playlist this weekend. My stupid work just recently started blocking spotify. I hate them so much.

I wont be spotifying. People havent got time to listen to 30 different batches of 50 songs.

Here's your Spotify mix.  The only version of Another Nail For My Heart that's on Spotify is by Patti Austin so I left it off.  I can add that version if you want.

AA's DI JukeBox
Another Nail in My Heart by Squeeze is on spotify.  I almost picked it, but went with Squeeze a year earlier. Make sure you write Another Nail in My Heart, and not Another Nail for My Heart.

I won't be spotifying either. Even though there was a song I didn't pick specifically because of that, there will be some tough finds on there for me, I think. I could be wrong. Regardless, my account is personal and has my name attached to it, and I wish to remain anonymous to a degree.

I will try and post my draft with all the You Tube links I used.

I randomly started with your jukebox.  I was just coming in to post that you only had 49 songs, and then saw this post.  Might not be what was intended, but your mix will be getting me through some drinking and house cleaning today...
Drinking, yes. House cleaning, not so much. Enjoy.

Let's try this again.

Round something - Pretty Vegas - INXS (2005)

This is from the JD Fortune period.

And now, because music these days isn't very rock heavy, the stems and seeds of rock:

Round the last (a) - Miserlou - **** Dale (1962)

No one should play a guitar upside down and backwards.

Round the last (b) - No Particular Place To Go - Chuck Berry (1964)

I'll put my picks in order and try to get everything posted after the mulligan round.

Thanks to those who helped move this along.  I'm ready for the next one.  I have my theme and a couple of songs picked already.  I need a life.

OK, now for something completely different.  This is my unauthorized, completely unofficial, left field, what the hell is he doing jukebox entry.  Otherwise known as the "Val was bored and wanted to play" entry.

There are a couple of jukebox's here that are cool (and a couple I wouldn't listen to on a bet), but nothing like what I'm about to post.  Heck, this might never exist in real life, cause only a few nerds like myself would listen to the darn thing.  What can I say, this type of music speaks to me.  I like a lot of epic, grand, over the top sort of stuff - or as Mrs. R says, "The King of Pompous".  I'm also a huge movie buff.  So, without further ado, here's the

I ended up changing the order of my playlist. Without a theme, my songs jumped around quite a bit from year to year (The Smiths to Metallica probably wouldn't be the smoothest transition).

My new order goes like this:

Pop -> Softer / Prog Rock -> Harder Rock -> Alternative -> Rap / Hip-Hop

Should be a smoother flow now.

Can't speak for all people, but I do.  Pretty sure I have listened to all the mixes people have posted for drafts.

If people aren't listening to these, why are we doing them?
Maybe he meant Australians, or Norwegians, or wherever JML is from don't have time. Here in America, all we have is time to waste. What else would I do at work. And now with spotify being able to be played in the car or through Alexa, we can listen while doing anything

Me too. I signed up for Spotify just for this. I do have to admit, its pretty great though.
I still use my CDs in the bedroom and in the car.  I never thought I would get away from them, as I love having the physical copy and looking at the liners, but Spotify eliminated my guilt of downloading stuff.  NO WAY I could keep up with new stuff or get into the stuff I do without it.  Just don't have the funds anymore.  After the essentials for my kids, this is probably the best $ I spend in a month.  Use it working out, going to sleep, and linking with the living room speakers.  Like Eephus has pointed out, it doesn't cover everything, but for me I find that I almost have to be actively looking for stuff they don't have.  Always said I wouldn't get away from CDs, and it happened.

That said, I am never giving up on actual books.

Don't get me wrong, it will take awhile to get through the mixes.   I easily listen to music 3 hours a day - basically a mix a day minimum.

Damn near every mix I have encountered doing these gets me into a new song or band I haven't heard yet, or at least jogs a memory with a song I haven't heard in ages.  Time will tell if Tim's does that.  That mix just might break me.

ETA:  Also, don't they only work about 2/3 of the hours we do wherever JML is?  Figured he would have all the time in the world for relaxing things like this.  :P

I love the enthusiasm, but we have done at least 10 mixtapes. Most of those mixtapes which were linked on spotify had 3 or less views, some even had none.

If you go out of your way to listen to most of these mixes then i applaud that. If you listen to Every drafters mix, even Tims, then i promise to do the same.

Having done all the mixtape and desert island drafts there is a distinct pattern.

A) excitement at a new draft.

B) lots of talk and discussion and enthusiasm for the first half of the draft

C) fatigue sets in, people want to finish their draft and spend less time listening and commenting on other draft picks. Things like 3ITC, multiple selections in a day and others are brought in to rapidly escalate the conclusion of a draft.

D) draft finishes and most people take a break from music or want to start another draft.

The diehards that listen to other mixes at the conclusion of a draft are in the minority.  In this draft each persons mix will be between 3 and 4 hours long. Multiply that by 30 if you want to get round to them all.

Are those views, or followers?  I will follow the mixes, listen to them, then unfollow them after I discover some new stuff and go exploring.  Mostly, I just don't like having 100 playlists to go through.  in the past I have burned mixes to a disc and listened to them in the car or something.  I don't the commute anymore, so I will do the Spotify thing.

I get what you are saying about the draft, and I realize I might be in the minority.  That is a big reason I don't listen to many of the songs as they are being drafted.  I like to put FFA personalities with the mixes and listen to them as a group.  During the draft I am just obsessing over my picks and listening to stuff that I am weeding out for my picks.  I think before we were also doing multiple drafts a year, and that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.  When was the last mixtape draft - I think it was the scarcity draft?

I guess I am just saying that if people post their mixes, I am listening.   As much as I love the idea of the ubermix, what I plan to do this time is listen to mixes and pick out the 5-7 songs that I hadn't heard of/haven't heard in awhile/just love and usually don't hear in my rotation, and make my own mix of 150-200 songs that is more manageable and give me ideas of stuff to explore more.

Drinking, yes. House cleaning, not so much. Enjoy.
I did enjoy this mix quite a bit.  Not usually stuff that I listen to, which is a good thing.  Also mostly had an upbeat feel to it, which made the chores go by and the beers go down smoother. Like I posted above, I am going to pick several songs off each mix to combine in one for myself - mostly new/unexplored stuff that I loved from the mixes.  These were the ones that I took:

Don't Wanna Fight, Let the Idiot Speak, Alabama Getaway, Can't You See, Romeo's Tune, Better When You're Not Alone, The Whole of the Moon

I think the Alabama Shakes song was my favorite and I listened to that one a few songs.  Honestly don't know if I could name you two Dead songs, and I really liked that one.  I saw Rhett Miller open for Tori Amos years ago, and really liked his stuff, but never got around to listening to any Old 97s much.  Can't You see is just a tune I love, and never would enter my rotation otherwise.  I have been loving The Black Crowes a lot lately, but evidently that album is a blindspot for me, and that song was great.  I hadn't heard anything of the other two songs I took.

I get an extra bonus out of this because Mr R and I get to talk a lot about music.  It's fun.  I also enjoy hearing stuff I haven't heard in a while, and finding new things.  I just skip over what doesn't appeal.

Yeah, I listen to music for hours every day.  Probably 6-18 hours a day usually.
Same - either music or audiobooks depending on my mood (and work). Pretty sure I have listened to every playlist posted in drafts that I have participated in. I don't always comment on the final product but rest assured that I will listen to them and note which songs I will considering picking up - especially the newer stuff. I've listened to Simey's and am nearly done with Ramsay's. So far, I like nearly all their non-country stuff (I just can't get into country - not a knock on their picks) which isn't surprising since both sniped me on at least a pick or two. So far, Kiss with a Fist is a gem that I wasn't familiar with prior to this draft. Honestly, I think drafters are doing themselves a disservice if they don't give each song at least a partial listen. Why spend the time to do/follow a draft if you aren't looking for new music?

I have a couple small hurdles with these mixes, and it's usually too much twang or too much pop.  I can dig just about everything else on some level, but if I feel the need to skip something it is usually one of those two things,
