Personal project. Please answer honestly.
Best I can hope for. Hypothesis is that Midwest/Deep South/West from mid-70s to early 90s did this.We had a brief moment in the seventies or eighties, best I can recall.
Rural CT, GB. I sort of messed up your premise. But rural Connecticut was where it happened.Best I can hope for. Hypothesis is that Midwest/Deep South/West from mid-70s to early 90s did this.
Nice. I’m afraid my school never advanced past Allemanding left our corners. Also Waltz, Foxtrot, and Virginia Reel.
I learned those in social dance at college. For real. It was a required intramural credit, actually. Fun, awkward stuff when the modern dances were going around. Also Waltz, Foxtrot, and Virginia Reel.
I like to think of CT as a refined Deep South.Rural CT, GB. I sort of messed up your premise. But rural Connecticut was where it happened.
Yeah, dead on. Now it's the Hudson Valley and watch out or you might get bit.I like to think of CT as a refined Deep South.
“Watch out or you might get bit” was the unofficial tag line for a young woman I knew in high school.Yeah, dead on. Now it's the Hudson Valley and watch out or you might get bit.
At least you knew vampires. I just knew the bloodless.“Watch out or you might get bit” was the unofficial tag line for a young woman I knew in high school.
So far - by the posts, it seems to be a northern/western/CA thing.Hypothesis is that Midwest/Deep South/West from mid-70s to early 90s did this.
Mine was same area but somewhat earlier. No Time Warp but lots of The Red River Valley. Friday gym class, not sure if the 2 gym teachers had a say in it.Yes in middle school in Michigan. We were having our first dance and for some reason we all were taught a few line dances so we could do them at the dance. They also taught us some other group dances like The Time Warp.
Wait, you did not have it in elementary or middle school but did have it in high school? But not until Junior year?Had it in gym class junior year. Ended up being awesome because my gym class was full of hot senior girls![]()
had square dancing in public HS PE class in N Cal early 80s.No, northern CA, 80s.
Shockingly, we didn’t do square dancing here in the most redneck part of CA. I know it was a thing in the 50-60s but not in the 70s-80s.So far - by the posts, it seems to be a northern/western/CA thing.
Have any other Mid-west/Deep South peeps chimed in?
Sophomore year for us, btw. Just prior, the girls split off into something that had a name like defensive arts, but was basically rape prevention. Boys split off into rape class, aka wrestling.had square dancing in public HS PE class in N Cal early 80s.
But I voted no because it wasn't elementary or middle school and I know much of a stickler these lawyers are about such things.
That is correct. It’s was a actually senior year gym class but due to a scheduling quirk I was in a few classes with seniors as a junior.Wait, you did not have it in elementary or middle school but did have it in high school? But not until Junior year?
I must know how this came about.
Did you move within the same state? Like, your school district did it but the one next door didn’t?Wisconsin mid and late 80s in gym class in middle and at least freshman year of HS (I moved after freshman year)
same here - Ohio, but early 70s - middle school and fresh/sophomore years - sucked so hard.Yes. Combined gym class. Mid-80s. Ohio.
Sure...Whoah, whoah! So far 50% of our 2000s kids took square dancing!?
Yeah - I feel the same - shocked you didn't do it.Shockingly, we didn’t do square dancing here in the most redneck part of CA. I know it was a thing in the 50-60s but not in the 70s-80s.
