Dre Kirkpatrick arrested for marijuana possessionPosted by Michael David Smith on January 17, 2012, 3:40 PM EST Former Alabama cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, who is widely viewed as a first-round prospect in this year’s NFL draft, has been arrested for possession of marijuana. The web site for the Sheriff’s Office in Manatee County, Florida, lists Kirkpatrick as having been arrested at 12:48 a.m. today for possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis. He was released after posting $120 bond.Kirkpatrick, who announced last week that he is leaving Alabama for the NFL, is considered one of the top defensive players in the class of 2012. The eight mock drafts posted at NFL.com all have Kirkpatrick going in the Top 10.
He may be the stupidest man alive.

stupid law but it's the law and he's likely cost himself a good chunk of change over a 5-6 year deal....

Or just live in a state/country with some stupid ### laws.
It's not whether or not the law is stupid ###, it's that a person should have the discipline to stay away from something for a few years, that he wells knows that his future employee will test for and frown upon, if it affords him an opportunity to earn an exorbitant amount of money.

Maybe he has a legit reason to be smoking the herb?Give the man a card!!! Chronic aches and pains, baby!

:bs: 4 months....he just has to be smart for 4 months to make enough money to be set for life. Any player in his position should be smart enough to realize that the only thing he should be doing is prepping for the draft. No excuses.

Stupid is as stupid does.

I've seen some people compare this to Warren Sapp or Calvin Johnson, as evidence not to be concerned. But I look at a positive drug test (Sapp) or admitted weed use (Megatron) as MUCH different than being arrested for possession. Now you've got to worry not only about the herb, but about his common sense.

Potheads are genius.

He gets caught w a lil dooberella... falls down the draft board to...........

a good team.

a playoff team.

good work, dre.

Let's be real. We all know people who smoke pot. And whether it's rational or not, I would feel fine hiring someone who I knew used it recreationally. But if someone was arrested for possessing it? Change my feelings on that person in a heartbeat.

What?SO it's cool if it's a secret, but once it's outta the bag, he/she becomes a bad person? You lost me on this one.You can't smoke it, without being in possession, Mr Wood.tsk tsk

If I am the front office sitting around the war room, we aren't worried about smoking pot. We are worried about a guy that isn't smart enough or disciplined enough to stay clear of anything that can hurt his career for the most scrutinized portion of his football life, ever. In short: You can't lay off the weed for a few months, until draft day? It's not the pot, and it certainly isn't about whether or not it's a dumb law. The question now is raised, what happens when this guy has a lot of money, and is tempted by all sorts of trouble he doesn't have access to now?

I'm a NFL owner shelling out millions to this kid in the first round. It's not like you're hiring a drywaller here. I'd pass.
My analogy clearly wasn't the most eloquent. All I'm trying to say is that I see a difference between a person who smokes (or admits having smoked) pot at some point as different than someone who gets arrested for possessing it, particularly when it's the time when it's most potentially damaging to his career.Obama admitted he tried cocaine while in college. Do you think he would've won the POTUS if he got arrested for possession?

Jason you are one of the brightest but in order to use it recreationally one would need to possess it.

I think I get what you are saying now. It's actually a good point. You are saying that the fact he smoked or got caught when he is about to sign or get drafted and make millions...I can see what you mean here. We know there are players who smoke and never get caught

^This.

I'm not sure if it's irony, but he was in Florida most likely because of IMG Performance Institute, which prepares incoming athletes for the draft.

That comes across acting like 20 grams is enough for 1 joint or something. Thats almost 3/4 of an ounce. You dont carry around that much unless youre selling it....that said, hopefully he drops to the Steelers

You can definitely keep under 20g for personal use... If he was selling he would almost certainly have much more than 20g.

I don't smoke pot and never have. This is a non-issue to me and I doubt it will hurt him much, if at all. It's not like he's been in trouble before... or did I miss something else?

The charge is less than 20 grams, not exactly 20 grams.

Just a lot of people overreacting. Maybe it knocks him down a few spots like it did for Harvin, but nothing major.

Depends on how big of a seller he is. And yes, when I smoked I would buy by the ounce so I agree you can keep 20g for personal use, but why would you be driving around with it? (Im assuming thats how he got arrested)

How did you get home from your dealer's house?

How fall does he fall? Vikings got Keith Ballard in the 4th due to a positive drug test.

I wonder if the Vikings could get Kirkpatrick with the 3.03. Cliff Harris also has declared for the draft. He was also getting touted as a 1st round pick before getting suspended by Oregan for a similar offense.

75% of the players in the draft will probably possessed weed at some point in the process. Dre was just the unlucky one.

With the weed in my trunk, not having smoked anything that day and not smelling like ganj. Dre probably looked high as #### when he got pulled over and/or they smelled something funky in there

:lmao:No way he drops out of the first. At worst, Hoody takes a chance on him.

Agreed. I had him top 10 with a hard look for Carolina. No way he makes it till the 2nd though. He's just way too talented.

Charges dismissed:

Marijuana charges dismissed against Dre KirkpatrickPosted by Evan Silva on February 6, 2012, 2:07 PM EST APA projected top-25 pick in April’s draft, Alabama cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick’s stock appeared to take a hit when he was arrested on January 17 for marijuana possession. But Kirkpatrick is off the hook. Liz Mullen of SportsBusiness Journal reports that the charges against Kirkpatrick have been dismissed.Based on this story, from the Tuscaloosa News, it sounds like Kirkpatrick’s friend, Chris Rogers, accepted blame for the presence of marijuana in a vehicle rented by Rogers. Rogers, a former teammate of Kirkpatrick’s at Alabama, was also arrested.Per the incident report, Rogers admitted to police that he purchased the marijuana. Kirkpatrick admitted he was in the vehicle when the purchase was made, but claimed he did not specifically know of the purchase at that time.We suspect the arrest will not affect Kirkpatrick’s 2012 NFL draft stock whatsoever.

Percy Harvin got busted for pot. Might have dropped him a few spots, but lets be honest, most guys probably do a little recreational smoking. Especially when they are in celebratory mode, as Kirkpatrick was.
