Ziggs posted his full roster. Is this thing done? I'd like to see the last couple of rounds.

I like the Andre Davis pick. I'm not quite sure if he's going to be a stud, but he has a lot of potential and was a good gamble in the 13th.

I'll try to get to each team over time. Here's a start.THUNDERING HERDSTARTERS:QB 04.14 Hasselbeck Sea RB 01.01 Holmes KCRB 08.14 Hambrick DalWR 02.14 Ward PitWR 03.01 Boldin AriFX 05.01 Horn NOFX 07.01 Warrick CinPK 11.01 Vanderjagt IndDT 16.14 Vikings MinOTHER:Q2 06.14 Garcia SFQ3 12.14 Henson HouR3 10.14 Mack HouR4 13.01 Bryson DetR5 14.14 Cloud NEW5 09.01 Hilliard NYGW6 15.01 Northcutt CleW7 19.01 McCants WasW8 20.14 Bradford HouK2 17.01 Gramatica TBD2 18.14 Falcons AtlANALYSIS:I'd be troubled by the RB situation of this team - very troubled. It was a major mistake to take Holmes (31 in Oct.) at #1 overall in a dynasty league unless the owner made certain he grabbed understudy Larry Johnson as well. Tomlinson, McAllister, Alexander would have been better choices at this spot, or, if the owner felt strongly about Holmes being THE guy, a trade-down may have been possible. To compound the long-term problem, there is no RB2 on this team at all (the other 4 RBs on the roster will see little or no playing time in 2004 and beyond), and they don't pick until 1.14 and 2.14 in the rookie draft. Ouch.Ward and Boldin are a very nice WR combo, and Horn (32) will hopefully still be solid for another couple of years. Warrick is OK. Depth is iffy, with Hilliard perpetually hurt and Northcutt's destination unknown.Hasselbeck is solid but not any special value in the 4th round, and backup Garcia (34) in the 6th was a poor pick when there were other needs to fill, as well as younger and more job-secure QBs available (McNair, for one). Henson will have a shot to become something, but it's too soon to know.Four picks were burned on PK and DT, with not a lot to show for it. Vanderjagt is as good as they come, but I'm not a fan of taking the 1st kicker off the board. He has to be the #1 kicker again just to meet expected value.Overall, I can't see this team making up for it's huge RB hole. Pick 1.14 will likely be a WR or perhaps a QB like Rivers or Losman, and to obtain a RB2 in trade more will have to be given up than if one had just been drafted in the first place. This team will struggle to win half its games even if Hass, Boldin, and Holmes meet expectations, and is absolutey dead if Holmes loses any significant time due to injury.

A gift to be sure. RB2 Thomas is a question mark now that Shea is bringing in a StL/KC-style offense, so S.C.Bandits will be sweating the NFL draft to see if the Bears take a RB early. W Green is a big question mark too, as Suggs has been 'penciled in' as the Cle starter (though this was not known at this point in this draft). You have to think Green will get another shot as starter, though, somewhere if not with the Browns. Gordon is the heir-apparent to Faulk. If the cards fall right, this is a good group in a 14-team league. If they fall wrong, it's LT2 and then trouble. At WR, I like the Coles pick. Bryant needs to step up in 2004 (Galloway is likely gone). Calico has good potential. I think Stokley was taken way too high and could have been had several rounds later. Robinson is a UFA and aging. Not much depth at WR on this team with all the RBs drafted plus two defenses taken so high, but rookie pick 1.13 ought to yield a nice WR since there are so many good ones coming out this year. There could be a real problem at QB if Brunell ends up in Was and makes Ramsey a backup as is being rumored, and Boller is not asked to throw more than 20 times a game. Maybe instead of WR, this team takes Rivers/Losman at rookie pick 1.13?Four picks were spent on PK and DT by this team, and I think it was a mistake to use both an 8th and 10th round pick on defense when there was so little WR depth. The Boys and Phins are good ones, but was it worth it? Overall, the offseason news is going to go a long way in determining how this team fares. Any team with Tomlinson has potential, and if two of Ramsey, Thomas, W Green get prominent roles, St. Croix will be in good shape and be a contender. If two of the three are not starting, there are too many holes and they will be marginal to make the playoffs.

The acquisition of the 1.01 rookie pick of either Jackson or Jones should give the 'Derms a solid pair of starters. Foster and Fargas probably should be their teams' starters within a couple of years. Very good group of RBs both for 2004 and going forward. The WR group looks impressive as well, especially if Lloyd and A Davis come through with breakout years as some are predicting. A Johnson will be a stud in this league and Booker should rebound. MeShawn should be good for a transitional period (he'll be the possession guy somewhere) until all of the young guys really get it going.Brooks is a fine starter, and Palmer should beat out Kitna this year (and how bad can he do when he gets to toss to Chad J?). Brunell will start in Was, Dal, SD, or Mia for awhile, and Bledsoe in round 15 is no great loss if he flops again. Overall, the Packyderms have the makings of a championship contender in 2004 and are in good shape for future years as well. QB, RB and WR all have current production, upside and depth. Very nice draft, guys!

Notable Free Agents available:Troy Walters WR Indy...Plays in Indy. Could be a good #3 WR on a passing Offense that spreads the field and throws for over 4000 yards every year.Morten Anderson K KC...Older than dirt but still plays on a high powered offense. Anthony Wright QB Balt...Who cares what Fassell says about Boller being #1. Wright played real well down the stretch and it wouldn't shock me in the least to see him start week 1.Todd Bouman QB NO...When he plays he's pretty solid. Considering the Aaron Brooks led Saints have always faltered, at some point a change in field generals might occur.James Thrash WR PHI...the Eagle WR's may be pathetic, but a #1 or thereabouts WR on a team is still worthy of a roster spot.Dez White WR CHI...Young and has talent. The Bear WR Corps is deep with young guys so you really don't know who is going to rise up. Brian Griese QB MIA...Can he be the starter in Miami? Probably not, but funnier things have happened.Ricky Ray QB...For the life of me I can't find what team he's on, but I've heard and read good things about this guy. Could be the sleeper's sleeper.Johnathon Wells RB HOU...He was a 1st round pick in most Dynasty drafts 2 years ago. Sure, DD has made it clear it's his job, but I would have thought a handcuff would have been made here...at the very least.

Staley has a year or two in him perhaps, but he has to land in and be used in the right spot to have starter value. Rhodes and White have shown themselves to be good fill-ins when given the chance, but will either go someplace where they'll get that chance?I'll admit right now that I'm an Owens hater, so maybe I'm prejudiced here when I say he wouldn't have been my dynasty WR anchor at 2.11. T.O. is a FA who could end up in one of a number of places, top WRs who change teams often flop, he is 30 and has had injury problems each of the last two years. Moulds is also 30 and has had injuries, but as a 4th round pick I won't complain too much. Still, word is Buf will be a running team and I have to wonder if his top-20 years are a thing of the past. Lelie is yet to fulfill his potential but I believe he will begin to this year. Smith is nearly 34 but useful in 2004 at least. Potential in Washington, some depth with Pinkston. And Glenn (30 in July) is a very nice addition at 17.04. I'd be surprised if he didn't find his way into the Turtles' starting lineup at times.Green and Plummer give this team sufficient points at QB to compete, and there's a chance Roethlisberger falls to them at 1.11 if they want to add depth. Brees is likely to become a career backup beginning in 2004 or 2005.Five picks were spent on PK and DT by this team, which is, I think, excessive. Based on my MOXFFL-I experience, two or three of these will find their way back to fantasy free agency as this team goes through the offseason.Overall, the Tomakomai Turtles should be in the group of good playoff teams when McGahee gets playing time and if the WRs rebound and stay healthy. How much PT McGahee gets in 2004 is a question, but hopefully Staley will pick up the slack for now assuming he gets a starting role somewhere. I think T.T. needs to begin to address their age issue at WR in the next year or two since 4 on the roster will be 30+ at season's start, but there is still time for that.

FIGHTING AMISHSTARTERS:QB 06.10 Carr HouRB 01.05 Green GBRB 02.10 Barber NYGWR 03.05 Jackson SeaWR 04.10 Burress PitFX 05.11 Garner OakFX 07.05 Gardner WasPK 17.05 Kasay CarDT 12.10 Packers GBOTHER:Q2 09.05 Delhomme CarQ3 15.05 Carter DalR4 08.04 Hollings HouR5 10.10 Wheatley OakR6 16.10 Jackson CleR7 19.05 Smith AriW4 11.05 Johnson JacW5 13.05 Bennett TenW6 14.10 Johnson NEK2 20.10 Graham CinD2 18.10 Redskins WasTRADES:Acquired 5.11, 8.04 and rookie 2.11, gave up 5.05 and 8.10.ANALYSIS:You could do a lot worse than Green and Barber as your RBs. Some concern with Barber with Coughlin coming in, but I don't see Tiki's role changing. He is nearly 29 though, so his future is limited. Since I mentioned age, the Amish had better hope Norv Turner doesn't hand the starting RB job in Oak to Fargas this year, because 5th (!!!) and 10th round picks were burned on old Garner and Wheatley (both 32). The jury is out on Hollings' long-term value, but as long as Dom Davis is healthy and productive he's taking a seat. I might have gone with N Davenport instead, who was taken one pick later. I see Emmitt was still on the board in round 19. Why didn't the Shipp owner want him by the 18th as insurance? RB position is fine for now, suspect going forward.Lots of questions at WR. Will Jackson remain a Seahawk, and if not will he remain as productive? Will Burress and Gardner rebound? What is KJohnson's long-term value, assuming a 1st round WR (Roy Williams?) is drafted by Jac? How much playing time will Bennett see with McCareins and Calico coming on? Will BJohnson ever be more than a role player in NE's WRBC? Too many questions to be very comfortable with this group, though I think Jackson and Burress will come through just fine.Amish have chosen David Carr as their starter, so he needs to move up the rankings ASAP. The potential is there, and the supporting cast is good. We'll see. The QB backups are marginal. Despite Delhomme's playoff performances, Carolina is still going to be a running team as long as Fox is in charge. Carter may or may not start in Dallas this year, and both Maddox and Couch were still on the board.Overall, the Fighting Amish appear to be a middle of the pack team. Neither QB or WR seem particularly strong and they did not draft A Green's backup in case he gets hurt, which has happened often enough to worry me. This team could go a number of ways with their 1.10 rookie pick and help themselves long-term, but probably not provide immediate impact.

Thanks.I'll try to do about 3 of these a day. We'll see.And to the owners whose teams I'm commenting on, if you don't like what I have to say just remember it's only one guy's opinion. If I had a dollar for every time I've been wrong about something, I could buy a country.

Really? No way! Just look at your spot-on analysis of the 'Derms :) Seriously, it's great to have posts like this, with analysis to back up opinions. Thanks for taking the time.

first let me say sorry, i didn't read this whole post (3 pages) I just glanced at the title and the first pick

1.01-Holmes

Terrible pick. (sorry for that as well) but this is a dynasty league not a redraft. There's just too much YOUNG talent to take this guy at this point in his career as the #1 overall selection.

...... to the owners whose teams I'm commenting on.......
Thanks for the opinions on all the teams, I really appreciate the input. In the case my my team (Fighting Amish) my assessment is pretty close to yours. I'm less optimistic about my RB's and more optimistic about my WR's and QB's than you are, but still definitely in the same ballpark. It's a very ''iffy' team. Depending on trades, cuts, starting lineups, and the "rebound vs. permanent decline" issues it could either be quite competitive or could bomb out. This is my first dynasty draft; it's hard guessing the future. I know what I want out of the rookie draft, but that's a long time from now.

I like the Davis and Shipp picks in rounds two and three also, though some would disagree. Davis was the best RB on the board at 2.09, despite age and injury concerns, and I believe a lot people are underestimating Shipp's long-term value. Time will tell. In a 14-team league, getting 3 productive starting RBs is a tough thing to do, but Heck's Devils seems to have done it. Beyond that, K Faulk will likely return to 3rd down duty and Blaylock has no real value unless he goes to a team where he gets a chance a la Rudi Johnson. You never know I guess. Since RBs were taken in rounds 1 thru 3, the sacrifice had to be made at WR. Boston is an enigma, and if anyone really knows what he'll do the next 3 years please tell me. Could be great, could flame out. Wayne has a bright future and will be more productive as Harrison gets near the end. Some may see a 5th round pick for him as a bit high, but I like the fact that Manning will be throwing to him for several years as the go-to guy. I don't like McCardell in the 7th. When you draft a player, you don't get to keep last year's numbers, and I don't see this 34 year old WR having a repeat of the circumstances which led to his great 2003 campaign. Burleson will have to show me more before I say much about him, and Morgan (top 10 bust of 2003) is a guy with a chance to come back in 2004 with KJohnson gone and Northcutt likely going as well. This group has a chance to be pretty decent, and if Hells Satans choose to go WR in the rookie draft, there will be a real good one still there at 1.09. At QB, Leftwich could be a perennial stud beginning in a year or two, and Favre is there to bridge the gap until that happens. Couch looks like he's going to have the starting gig for the Brownies so he is an OK Q3 and good to have around if Favre hangs them up after 2004. Here's another team that used 5 picks on PK/DT, and as I said in a previous analysis I'll bet 2 or 3 of those picks will not last the offseason. I found it better in Moxie One to have my core two (I had Stover and the Pats' D) and play the waiver wire game when desirable or necessary. This allows more roster room to house the possible future Dom Davises and Rudi Johnsons of the world (though I was the guy with Hollings - and egg on my face - when Davis went off).Overall, Hells Satans (I hate the name, by the way) should certainly be a 2004 playoff team if Boston doesn't flake and also looks good going forward if they can address the future loss of S Davis, who is 30 next month. Too bad they couldn't get D Foster, but someone else grabbed him in round 3 so H.S. can't be faulted for missing out. Perhaps instead of WR with rook pick 1.09, they may reach for the 5th or 6th RB available.

The concern is number of carries the last two years and that the Norv Turner offense has left town. Nevertheless, a fine producer. RB2 Dillon is a gamble in that he is going to an as-yet unknown offense and he's 29. Still, when the decision was made to get the top fantasy QB (Culpepper), that kind of chance has to be taken. Dillon will start somewhere, of that you can be sure. Thomas Jones in the 5th is a gamble too. Did he do enough in 2003 to earn a starting role with TB or someone else in 2004? We'll see. There's not much after that. The Andersons are both getting long of tooth and it's not clear that Minor will be Williams' injury replacement (I'd be sure I get whoever it is going to be if not Minor). At rookie pick 2.08 it might be worth going after that 4th or 5th available RB. Overall, a decent but risky (depending on Dillon and Jones) RB corps. At WR, Steve Smith has arrived. Forget his height - he's a playmaker. Stallworth has not yet arrived, but hopefully will in 2004 after a disappointing and injury-riddled 2003. Jimmy Smith at 35 has another productive year in him at least, and Branch has begun to emerge as Tom Brady's first choice WR. Finneran may fade away depending on what the Falcons do in the draft and free agency. Gaffney is young and at pick 20 is decent fantasy backup material. Barbarians can probably get Roy or Reg Williams at the 1.08 rook pick if they choose to go WR, and each has potential to star in the future. On a per-game basis, Culpepepper has been the best fantasy QB for a few years now. He just turned 27 and his all-world WR turns 27 next week. Not a bad situation to have for a fantasy owner. Harrington should begin to come into his own with a healthy Rogers to throw to. Frerotte showed last year he can get it to Moss too. A+ at the QB position. Nice PK and DT, though there are changes coming in Tampa. Interesting to see if Gruden can return them to elite status. Overall, the thinness at RB is a concern, especially post-2004, but QB is great and WR decent (very good if Stallworth fulfills promise). I look for Westchester Barbarians to win more than half their games and be a playoff team.

Good move backing him up with Morris too. However, since QB Manning was taken in round 2, I think it was a mistake not to get a good young RB like C Brown or M Westbrook in round 3. I think this will hurt Dirty South in the future. Dunn in round 4 might work out in 2004, but with the emergence of Duckett it is hard to say what role Dunn will have at age 29. Johnson is probably two years away from starting in KC, I don't think Peterson will ever get the starting role in Chi and Centers is retiring before next season. In summary, after the Seattle RBs this corps seems to be in trouble. They should take a long studious look at RB with rookie pick 1.07 and hope they get a starter out of it.As I indicated above, going WR instead of RB in round 3 is problematic after taking a QB in round 2. Worse, the WR taken was 30 year old D Mason who will not be the go to guy for very much longer. WRs still on the board included S Moss, C Chambers, C Rogers, K Robinson and S Smith to name a few. The next thing I notice is that four tight ends were drafted by this team. Gonzo and Shockey are great TEs, but not special at picks 5 and 6 in a non-TE-required league. Bryant Johnson has to share catches with Boldin, so his upside is limited. Jurevicius has little upside at 29. To be brutally honest, the drafting of WRs was botched. Also, Dirty South almost has to go RB in the rookie draft, given their problems at that position. Manning is an elite QB and can be counted on for 4,000+ yards and 30+ TDs just about every year. Simms is an interesting round 12 pick at QB2 since Manning is still so young. Maddox will start in 2004, but it will be his last in Pit if he doesn't do better than in 2003.Panther DT is solid, making me wonder why two more picks were spent on defense. Overall, Manning and Alexander are the highlights, as will be the high 2005 rookie pick this team could have after finishing out of the running in 2004. Dirty South must work very hard to make up the gap between themselves and the better teams in the league at WR and at RB2. Keep up with the news and the waiver wire, make some good trades, and with a little luck it can be done.

Seeing some of these guys getting drafted where they are going is painful, but understandable considering the setup.
remember...'that setup' is 14 teams, QB--2RB--2WR--2FLX--K--DLeague wide we start 84 position players, plus 14 QB's weeklythis league is not for the faint at heart...we do not carry rosters into the 20's, so that any NFL player hitting the field weekly is on a team...each week decisions need to be made about who the drop, if you're going to make a FA addition...we draft and start players that alot of FF'ers would not touch, let alone put in a lineupthe first crack at this decision making will be in the 2nd week in August, when the rookies are added to the squads...we do not expand the rosters, nor do we carry 'injured reserve' space...if a guy is hurt, carry him on the 20 man or cut his #### loose...good, productive FF players will get tossed back into the FA pool at this time, forcing owners to take a good, hard look at how he wants to shape his teamI want to thank each of the owners for a terrific job drafting...280 players taken in an online, slow draft, over 10 daysthanks also to the FBG's brethren, who can ALWAYS be counted on for commentary  the Waiver Wire is 'OPEN' for any owners that want to juggle their teams...it will stay open 24/7 up until our rookie draft in AUGfinally, look for MOXFFL-III draft to start 2/21...another 20 rounder, with the same rules/requirements

Looks great so far. Hope you have time to do the rest of the teams. Anyone else want to chime in with some thoughts too?

I like the Packyderms. They look like they could be the class of the league soon. They have a well-balanced roster with proven studs and promising youngsters. Also, that 1.01 pick will turn into a great player if used properly.

Sorry I took so long getting this next one out. I actually have a job I do sometimes, where they actually pay me money, and I was also busy peddling Mark Brunell (the next Rich Gannon circa 1999-2002 ;) ) to one of my other leagues.SHORT BUS ALL-STARSSTARTERS:QB 07.09 McNair TenRB 01.09 James IndRB 03.09 Brown/ 04.06 George TenWR 02.06 Harrison IndWR 05.09 Price AtlFX (01.03 RB rookie pick?)FX 08.06 Streets SFPK 17.09 Edinger ChiDT 11.12 Chiefs KCOTHER:Q2 13.09 Johnson TBR4 10.03 Hearst SFR5 10.06 Canidate WasR6 12.06 Williams MinW4 11.09 Lee TBW5 14.06 Terrell ChiW6 15.09 Brown NEW7 16.06 Galloway DalW8 18.06 Randle El PitW9 20.06 Pathon NOD2 19.09 Lions DetTRADES:Acquired picks 10.03, 11.12 and rookie pick 1.03, gave up picks 6.06 and 9.09ANALYSIS:Drafting out of the 9 spot, Short Bus had some tough choices to make, and went with Edgerrin James instead of, say, Randy Moss. Pre-ACL injury, James was the top fantasy RB around (or at least shared that distinction with Faulk), and now that he has fully healed he looks to have the old Edge back. Still just 25 (entered the draft with Ricky W but is 14 months younger), he racked up 237-994-10 rushing and 41-226-0 over his last 10 games of 2003, extrapolating out to 379-1590-16 and 66-362-0 over a full season. To be sure to land another starting RB for the long term, two more picks were used. Knowing how HC Jeff Fisher likes to manage an offense, 3rd round pick Chris Brown ought to be productive for a long time once he gets the job full time. Unclear as to the timing of the transition and wanting to be sure of having 2 starting RBs in 2004, Short Bus went ahead and also spent their 4th rounder on E George, which makes for an expensive overall investment in the RB2 spot. I would have gone WR with the E George pick instead and just waited out the transition, or hoped to get George a round later at least. But that's me. A trade was made to land rookie pick 1.03, and that pick may be used on a 3rd starting RB (Perry, G Jones, etc), or the 1.06 RP may be used for that instead. Hearst and Moe Williams are nearing the end but ought to have another year or two in them (Hearst will be on a new team I think), and the Canidate pick in round 10 seems to be in the hope he lands on his feet somewhere, because it won't be in Washington. All said, some sacrifices were made to get 3 young starting RBs and only time will tell whether C Brown and the rookie pan out and make the sacrifice worthwhile. WR Harrison just keeps getting it done and at age 31 should be Manning's #1 for 2-3 more years. Price hopefully will become in 2004 the WR he was in 2002, chalking up 2003's disappointment to a new team and no Mike Vick. Streets looks to be changing teams and may disappoint initially as so many WRs making this transition do. Let's see where he lands first. Lee came on the scene as a big surprise in the 2nd half of 2003 and seems to still be a secret to FFers. Could be a very nice pick here in round 11 if he keeps it up. Terrell will get his shot, finally, in the starting lineup of an offensive scheme which won't ignore him. Maybe the former 1st rounder won't be a total bust after all, and at pick 14 why not find out? Troy Brown and Galloway are no longer what they were but should log some playing time (Galloway may leave Dallas though). Randle El and Pathon are fill-ins or rookie draft cuts. Interesting decision to make here with the rookie picks at 1.03 ans 1.06. Fitzgerald and a not-sure-to-start RB? Or surer-to-start RB and a very good WR but not Fitz, who we keep hearing is the best WR to come out in years and years? Either way (unless Short Bus goes RB-RB or RB-QB with the picks), the WR chosen should be a productive starter in a year or less. Very nice group.McNair and Brad Johnson are the QBs, and I know Doogie is just waiting to figure out who the Titan backup is going to be before putting him on the roster. No way do we trust McNair's health or Johnson's age and go with just 2 QBs on the roster. Maybe swing a deal for Simms, whose owner has Manning. Or, speaking of Manning, maybe little brother gets drafted with the 1.06 rook pick (I know I keep talking about those two picks, but who is drafted and how they pan out will have a lot to do with the shape of this team going forward). Anyway, the QB position, yet to be fully fleshed out, is productive and steady for 2004 at least.Relatively low, and few, DT and PK picks were spent which I agree with, and though you don't see the name "Dante Hall" on the roster anywhere, he's there returning kicks. Short Bus I'm sure will use the WW as needed with these positions. Overall, the team has a good look to it. Some questions perhaps, but with McNair, Edge, Harrison, the Titans RB, some upside at WR and two good as-yet unknown rookies, there is a blend here which should make Doogie's Short Bus All-Stars a playoff team. How good a playoff team will depend on how the questions are answered over time.

Thanks for the feedback Bruce. Your eval is pretty close to the self eval I did on my draft. As you pointed out #9 was a choice between James, Moss (and Taylor). The decision came down to having James/Harrison, C. Johnson or Owens OR Moss/S. Davis,Barlow or D. Davis. I believe in Rounds 1 & 2 you draft no doubters, for me that drove my decision as much as anything. After taking a WR in Rd. 2 it kind of left me in a position to either take a RB or hope to land this years Rudi Johnson. Seeing the RBs flying off the board, I took a shot at the future with Chris Brown and Tennessee's run happy offense. In Rd. 4, as you correctly noted, I reached for George, not wanting to take the chance of him not being there in Rd. 5, and having to start at least 2 RBs I made the decision to take George and passed on Burress and Price (lucking out to get Price in Rd. 5). McNair in the 7th was an absolute no doubter for me as I think a key to success in this league is getting a top 10 QB in Rd. 6 or later (McNair was #8QB overall in 2003 with 2 games missed, one being Wk17).In the later rounds I concentrated getting guys with decent upside in both the short term (Hearst, Williams, Brown & Galloway) and long term (Streets, Lee, Terrell and Randle-El). I need 2 of the latter to pan out for me to view this as a successful strategy. Having experienced MOXFFL I, I knew I had to have a Top 5 D/ST (KC was #4 last year) and take a serviceable K late, I think I accomplished this.Getting the #3 Rookie pick was key to me, when the oppotunity presented itself to get the pick, I knew I had to make a deal work. 1.03 will yield me one of my flex players (Jackson, Jones or Fitzgerald) and 1.06 will either land me my future QB or a choice of some of the next tier of RB/WR talent beyond the Top 3 (Roy Williams, Reggie Williams, Perry, Greg Jones, Clarett, etc.). In the end, my draft will be judged by how well I do with these selections. All in all, I think I did a fair job of assembling a playoff caliber team (time will tell).

BTW, I don't evaluate such things because they often are made with specific desired players in mind, and I'm not inclined to take the time to think about all that.ANALYSIS:Smackdown clearly ignores the stud RB theory here, choosing to wait until the last pick of round 3 to grab one. It should go without saying that making Michael Bennett your RB1 is a big risk, but that has to be weighed against having a couple of the very best young WRs on his roster. I suspect the plan was to get Onterrio Smith a bit later, and I'll bet Ariakis' heart sank to see Smith taken with the very next pick at 4.01. CBuck in round 5, and 7/8 picks Pinner and Betts hopefully will yield a starter or two. Rookie pick 1.05 will also garner a possible rookie RB starter and if all else fails, Moss or Chad J could still be traded. Musa Smith is intriguing too, but only if traded or JLew gets hurt or busted again. Let's just say the jury is still out on an evaluation of this team's RBs.Edit to add that in MOXFFL I we had a team which drafted no RB in rounds 1 or 2, taking McNabb and Harrison instead. They were a competitive team all year and made the playoffs. Smackdown's WRs really suck. All he has as his foundation for this dynasty team are Randy Moss (27), Chad Johnson (26), Koren Robinson (almost 24). Just pathetic. Of course I'm kidding. After that, Heap is fine as a backup, Jacobs may become something, and Carter likely won't. Not a lot of quantity, but top-line starting quality.Nice job at QB with Pennington starting, and then at least in 2004 there's the Raider QB to back him up. Raiders could go QB in the draft, though, making Tui irrelevant when Gannon retires. Perhaps Rattay will be starting for SF in a year (or sooner) so this may turn out to be a very nice pick. And note that these backups were all picked in the last 3rd of the draft. Good starting PK and DT, and although I'm a Pats D owner and loved the way they carried me in two leagues last year, I'm not a fan of drafting one this high (8th round). In contrast, the NE defense was taken in MOXFFL I at 19.07 and cut by the owner before anybody knew what he had (remember the wipeout loss to the Bills in week 1?). I know I'm lecturing here, but defensive scoring is just too up and down to trust that a relatively high pick on one is any better investment than one you could get 10 rounds later. OK, off of my soapbox. Overall, it all comes down to whether this team can piece together a running game each week. If so, QB and WR will do more than their share and this is a real contender. If Bennett, Buckhalter, Pinner, Betts, and the rookie pick don't work out - all of 'em - this team loses 30+ ppg that just can't be made up elsewhere. Two things in Smackdown's favor: I just listed 5 possible starters and chances are decent that 2 or 3 will turn out ok; and, it is clear that Smackdown isn't afraid to wheel and deal if they see the need.

ANALYSIS:The Recreational Chemists decided to trust that Henry will maintain the bulk of the RB load for Buf in 2004 and beyond that must hope that he or McGahee will be dealt because the latter was not drafted by the Bills in the 1st round, despite a serious injury, to ride the pine much longer. Hopefully, Henry isn't going to be a RBBC guy in 2004, but it's very possible, and that's not what you want out of your #1 dynasty pick. Rudi Johnson in round 2 really came on in 2003 and most agree that Dillon is gone in 2004, but the question is how well will Rudi perform over the course of an entire season? Alstott in round 7 was a blown pick. He's 30, had surgery to repair herniated discs in his neck, and may have to retire. If he does return, it'll be in a limited role. He would have been available much later in the draft. Davenport in round 8 has value if A Green is injured but not much beyond that. Green is just 27 and not likely to lose his starting job anytime soon. Chester Taylor is a 3rd down back. RecChem must use their 1.04 pick on a RB who starts and hope he becomes a star because there is risk in their current starters and no depth.WR Santana Moss had a breakout year in 2003 and is high on a lot of lists, but don't count me among the convinced. I think the little dude will be a career WR2 and the Jets just don't have their WR1 on the roster yet (Reggie Williams could be that guy very soon). Toomer is steady, and at 30 when the 2004 season opens will still be fine for another couple of years. Porter is still being drafted high for his potential, but needs to stay healthy and produce consistently in 2004. His value could take a hit if Fitzgerald is drafted by Oak and gets 100 balls/year, or they could complement each other very well and Porter's numbers could be helped by Fitz' presence. Driver is 29 now and seems to be making way for Walker and Ferguson as we go forward. Kennison's better days are behind him too, and the last 3 WRs on the roster aren't starting material in 2004. The WR group is OK overall and can be very good if S Moss and Porter both excel. McNabb had a poor start to 2003, but came on and should be a perennial top-10 QB. He's 27 so he is really just entering his prime, and if the Eagles finally beef up their receiving group he could again become top 5. People forget that he was, at the time of his injury in 2002, the #1 fantasy QB in many leagues. Warner (33 by season's start) still needs to have his role, and maybe his team, determined before September and Collins (31) needs to have a good year or this could be his last in New York. Chemists should get above-average fantasy production from the QB position. Bills D is getting better, PKs are adequate. Four picks on PK and DT, none wasted early, and one subsequently cut for a backup RB. Keep moving, folks, nothing to see here. Overall, I'm uneasy about the general lack of depth or star quality (except McNabb) on this team. Too many picks were burned on guys that wouldn't crack most starting lineups, and that really hurts when there are injuries and bye weeks. RB position isn't as strong as other teams in this league, and the difference isn't made up adequately elsewhere. I don't think this is a playoff team, though it isn't awful either. If a few players step up beyond my expectations, perhaps the Recreational Chemists can catch a couple extra wins and make the postseason.

I don't have a crystal ball to tell you whether this combo will be a better choice than, say, Barlow or Fred Taylor in the 1st plus Rudi Johnson or a 'stud WR' like C Johnson or M Harrison in the 2nd, but clearly this owner wanted youth in the early rounds and got it. Third-rounder Westbrook is just 24 and had outstanding production when healthy, and with Staley moving on Westy ought to continue to be productive when healthy. I think this was a real nice pick late in the third round. After that I'm stumped. I don't know who the Purple Corvis owner is, and I know he got bashed somewhere earlier in this thread and don't want to pile on, but to do a truthful analysis I have to point out that a lot of picks were wasted on backup RBs. After the three players already mentioned, it seemed to be a matter of throwing a bunch of RB picks against the wall and hoping something will stick. Unfortunately, IMO, all six picks (9.09 Smith NE, 9.12 Stewart Det, 13.12 Cartwright Was, 14.03 Harris StL, 19.12 Brown Pit, and 20.03 Simon Was) will yield next to nothing long term and only spot duty here and there short term. Rookie pick 1.03 was traded away as well, so there's no help coming there. With 9 of 20 picks used on RBs, not a lot of picks could be spent here and only 6 WRs were drafted. Continuing the youth movement of the first 3 rounds, pick 4 was C Rogers who should be a star, though I've read troubling news that his clavicle isn't healing as it should. Hopefully he'll be fine and anchor Purple Corvis' WR corps for years and years. A pair of round 6 picks, D Givens and J Walker, are also young. Walker was a nice pick here, but I'm certain Givens could have been drafted later even if the owner is convinced he'll be something special. McCareins (8th round) emerged in 2003 and will maintain an active role in the Titans offense. Shaw and Osgood don't have much value going forward. Again, no 1.03 rookie pick here to help, which could have been Larry Fitzgerald if not a starting RB. Brady is a decent (again, young - he's 26) fantasy QB, and he is backed up on the roster by Jay Fiedler and Billy Volek. Fiedler's situation is very uncertain, as it appears Miami is intent on upgrading the QB position ASAP. He has experience though, so he may end up a starter in another city (Dallas is rumored to have an interest). Volek is a UFA and has a chance to start somewhere, perhaps, after looking good in relief of McNair in 2003.Just two picks were spent on PK and DT, but both were relatively high ones. J Brown was the 3rd PK off the board in round 12, and the Baltimore DT was first off the board in round 7.This is not likely a playoff team in 2003. Overall, Purple Corvis probably should have done better in the first 8 rounds but went heavily with youth, and if all goes well QB Brady; RBs Davis, Duckett and Westbrook; WRs Rogers, Walker, McCareins and Givens; and the Ravens D (although overpaid for) form a nucleus for this team for a number of years. Those 9 ought to make Purple Corvis competive most weeks if they stay healthy and maintain prominent roles on their teams. But after those 8 rounds, frankly, the draft was for the most part a disaster and left the team without depth. Hopefully, this owner will have better success than I'm predicting for his backups, but I think he would do well to watch the waiver wire closely and keep up with the news of the day to try to add some much-needed depth to this just-average starting group. He should read up to get the most out of his 2.03 rookie pick as well, as this is a deep NFL draft and he could get a good player here.

Taylor and Faulk are older and no less an injury risk, and at just age 25 Barlow has a number of productive years ahead in the SF offense. I don't worry that he won't be a 49er next year or that Hearst will be around to eat into his numbers. This is Barlow's year to enter the 'stud RB' category if he can stay healthy. By going WR in round 2, Longshotz was faced with limited RB choices late in round 3 and went with CuMart. Heir-apparent L Jordan was taken in round 5 to lock up the NYJ running game. That just had to be done or the 3rd round pick of Martin would have yielded only a 1-2 year player at the key RB2 spot. Next, I'll make note of the fact that Longshotz has rookie pick 1.02, which should be used on S Jackson or K Jones. Whichever is drafted should become in immediate starter on this fantasy squad. Toefield shows promise and looks to be 28 year old Fred Taylor's replacement at some point, but I don't think using a 6th on him was good value. I don't like the picks of Zereoue Pit in the 11th or Bennett Cin in the 13th either. Famous Amos had his chance in Pit, Cowher didn't like the experiment, and he now looks to be a 3rd down back for the remainder of his career. Bennett is 31, a career backup, and doesn't have more than a year or two left in the league even in that role. McCullough is an intriguing reach. If Dillon doesn't go to the 'Skins and a starting rookie isn't drafted, there is talk of giving Sultan a good look in minicamps. Overall, Barlow/NYJ RB/rookie 1.02 makes this a nice group drafting from the #13 hole. Knowing the 1.02 rookie pick is in tow with which to go RB, veteran pick #2 was WR T Holt. Four years younger than Harrison and 1 1/2 years older than Chad Johnson, Holt has and should continue to excel for a long time. C Chambers will be the other WR, taken in the 4th. He's just 25 and knocking on the door of the elite group of the league's WRs. After those two, though, it's uh-oh. Pick 10 was blown. Patten, from what I've read, will not be brought back by NE and at 30 when the season begins may not be wanted anywhere. Pick 12, B Engram, had a nice stretch as the Seahawks' #3 but is near the end of his career too. Pick 15 C Wilson is a role player in SF most likely but could earn a starting spot for awhile depending on what the 49ers do in the draft. C Conway is about to be a NYJ cap casualty and at 33 can't have a lot of options. It's a shame he didn't just stay in SD and take what they were offering him after the 2002 season; it might have extended his career a couple of years. So, I love Holt and Chambers, see Engram and maybe Wilson adding a few points, but that's it. Not a deep group.QB is iffy here. Best case is for Bulger to be top-5 and Warner traded away so there's no risk of benching, Kitna starting another year in Cincy, and McCown being the long term solution in Zona and throwing to Boldin, Johnson and Fitzgerald. Worst case could happen - Bulger could end up as Warner's backup, Kitna as Palmer's backup, and McCown as a rookie's backup after a half-season. Then what does Longshotz do? The reality will lie somewhere in between, but there are definitely some concerns. Both PKs and Rams DT have Longshotz in good shape here. This team has a pretty good starting unit if Bulger continues to be the Rams QB and puts up 2003-like numbers, the RB group performs as I think they can, and some WR depth can be added to the teriffic duo of Holt and Chambers. WR is probably the easiest position to fill backup spots, so I don't view that as a major concern. It's a playoff team, I think, unless the QB situation falls apart and the rookie RB turns out to be a bust.
