I didn't get this set correctly the first time. I think this one is better.

9.06 - M83 - "Graveyard Girl" (Bridge)

I'm gonna jump the walls and run
I wonder if they'll miss me, I won't miss them

The cemetery is my home,
I want to be a part of it, invisible even to the night
Then I'll read poetry to the stones,
Maybe one day I could be one of them, wise and silent

Waiting for someone to love me
Waiting for someone to kiss me
I'm 15 years old and I feel it's already too late to live
Don't you?
More of a spoken interlude than a bridge  :nerd:

For Choir, I'm going with an a capella song from Paul Simon's Graceland album.

10.06 - Homeless - Paul Simon/Ladysmith Black Mumbazo (Choir)

"Homeless" was written jointly by Paul Simon and Joseph Shabalala, the lead singer of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, to a melody from a traditional Zulu wedding song.[14] In the song, "the figure of Joseph becomes the dual image of a dispossessed African black man and the New Testament Joseph." For the song, Simon sent a cassette demo to Shabalala, and the two later met at Abbey Road Studios in London, where the rest of the song was completed.

I'm going to take a huge leap and say on behalf of the other drafters that we'd not like to have any Europe songs! ;) Certainly not forcing anyone to pick them!!!

@FUBAR, back to you!!
Do I have a makeup song too? (I think my pick of queen/bicycle was missed)

While not the "best" acoustic guitar song ever, this song exemplifies the feeling acoustic guitar should.  Relaxed, retrospective, just a great song A pirate looks at 40, Jimmy buffett

10.02 - Sampling - Beats International - Dub Be Good to Me

It samples the songs "Guns of Brixton" by The Clash and the Once Upon a Time in the West theme by Ennio Morricone, and includes interpolations of the songs "Just Be Good to Me" by The SOS Band and "Jam Hot" by Johnny Dynell.

Bonus points for Interpolating

Make-up picks:

6.07: "Give the DJ a Break", Dynamix II (Autotune/Processed Vocals)

Still have fond memories of teammates dancing to this track in the high-school football locker room
...

7.04: "Fantasy", Aldo Nova (Introduction)

Had to double-check that the official video accurately represented the intro on the studio cut. It does
...

8.07: "Sad Eyes", Robert John (Falsetto)

Crazy power in his falsetto. Almost tortured ... so soulful. It's a shame Robert John didn't stay around longer.
...

9.04: "Don't Go", Yazoo (Synths)

Vincent Clarke stood out amongst a whole bunch of contemporaries forging energetic synthpop out of what would be mere cold machines in lesser hands.
...

10.07: "Gemini Dream", The Moody Blues (Keyboards)

Keyboard ace Patrick Moraz leaves Yes to join The Moody Blues, and starts his tenure with a bang.

Thanks for posting this bunch. I will get the spreadsheet up to date this afternoon. Skip me if it's my turn. Running around kids to Drs. appointments today. Fun!!

Really just winging it at this point.

11.06 - HAIM - "Let Me Go" (Instrument - Drums)

I kinda figured that this would be an easier category but I found it difficult to really find a track I wanted for this mix.  I think when we think of a fantastic drum track, we think of the great drummers and the bigtime drum solo.  This has none of that.  I absolutely love the way it showcases percussion, though.  The song starts virtually acapella with drumbeat beginning around 0:45 and carrying the rest of the song.  It's a great example of how a simple ever-increasing-tempo drumbeat can drive a song.

Bonus video - live at Glastonbury 2014

Was listening to The Tony Kornheiser Podcast yesterday, and during his segment that he refers to as 'Old Guy Radio' where he talks about music (usually related in some way to that day - e.g. yesterday was Bill Medly's b-day). Mr. Tony knows his stuff about music. He is a huge fan of early Rock & Roll (50s - 70s) and has a scary memory of songs and the artists performing them. (You figure non-athlete sports media guys should have that kind of memory)

The song yesterday was 'You Lost That Lovin Feeling,' and I was floored. I know I've heard the song a thousand times before, but it slipped off of my playlist. I forgot how good a voice Bill Medly (Baritone) has. In fact this song could have gone for an intro if I hadn't already chosen one.

11.05 - The Righteous Brothers - You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling (Solo Vocal Performance - Male - Bill Medly)

@Northern Voice, You're up!! And since sn0mm1s is skipped today, you have 2 in a row.

11.09 -  Drums - The National (Bryan Devendorf) - Brainy

Devendorf's drums propel the song forward in contrast with Matt Berninger's laconic vocals.

I'm not a drummer so I can't comment on degree of difficulty but Devendorf plays lots of tight rolls, keeps a metronomic beat and manages to swing a bit.  And what drummer doesn't love getting way up in the mix like on this track.

12.02 - Harmonies - X - "Hungry Wolf"

As it turned out, the wolves ran more endlessly than with their mates than John and Exene did.  But the way their voices blend still brings goosebumps.

I'm glad Exene and Billy are in good health and X continues to perform.  Their annual West Coast  X-mas tour has become an institution.

Is it wrong that when I read that song title, my mind wants to add 'Like a' and make it from 'the band so good they named it twice?'  :scared:   Ahhh, 80s!

Playlist should be updated.  Most songs have been on spotify.  I had to use a live version for Yazoo, and the Eminem song I didn't see.

Let's get everyone caught up to their round 12 picks this morning/today. After that, we'll go to one pick each in the AM and one pick each in the PM going forward.

For song ending, I'm going with a song that is far more powerful played live than the album version. In the late 80s, many musicians were using their popularity towards ending apartheid in South Africa. It seems like they had 'finished' with AIDS and looked to the next 'crisis' to see if they could solve it. At the end of Peter Gabriel's shows, both his own and the giant multi-star shows like 'Live Aid' he would finish with the song "Biko;" the ending of which was the repetition of the outro (??? - right terminology?) involves PG and the chorus singing 'Oh, Oh, Ohhhhhh-oh' with Peter Gabriel making a comment related to the event or time in between repeats.

After PG is done, he walks off stage with the rest of the band stopping singing; usually at this point the crowd has joined in, loudly and are just repeating the outro over and over. One by one, the musicians stop playing and leave the stage, leaving the drummer to play his beat for a shot bit before he stops, ending the song and the show.

This video doesn't do it proper justice, but it was the best I can find.

12.06 - Peter Gabriel - Biko (Song Ending/Coda)
