Fact - Brandon Marshall is not at Bronco's practice today (1 Viewer)

Does this sort of crap tick anyone else off. This guy gets to play football for millions of dollars. boo ####### hoo. All the rest of us work our butts off everyday so we can pay for tickets and cable so we can watch football on the weekends. Others of us can barely make ends meet these days.
Other than laughing at it for being unprofessional, and being pissed that he might not play and being on three teams of mine, no it doesn't bother me. How much you or I make doesn't make any difference to weather or not Marshall should sack up and play. The owners make millions of dollars and use a practice to control player costs that is illegal for any other industry outside of sports. They have routinely ####ed players at every turn with every trick possible- lobbying Congress to prevent prosecution for things that would surely be considered to violate anti-trust laws if say a plumber or a laywers boss were using them. Yeah hes acting like a spoiled brat, but there is no reason it should piss you off.As to those wondering why hes not suspended yet, its fairly simple. Marshall is worth a lot to this team as motivated player, if they can turn him around its the biggest win for them. If they can't then they want as much ammo as possible for when the suspend him to go after his paychecks/signing bonus. Pre season pay is peanuts compared to game checks for the team.

Even if Marshall was already acting like a 4 year old in practice before the demotion and doing the stuff he was doing on that video we saw, you STILL don't demote him on paper until it's obvious that things are not working and that he'll either be suspended or traded.
this is the point where we disagree. If marshall is behaving that way when the first team is practicing, it does no good for either Kyle Orton or a new secondary to learn their new systems. Also, attention is diverted away from Eddie Royal, Gaffney, and all of the other Pro's who show up and do their job.If you have an established system with an established set of personnel and an established coach, I think you might have the ability to take the above tack, but I still would not like it.Moreover, McD has been trying to install a "team-first" attitude. It makes it really tough for the 52 other players on the team to buy in when they see Marshall acting a fool and getting away with it. McD has got to come down hard on Marshall if he wants to maintain any sort of control over the team down the road. He had already lost some credibility on that front; he cannot allow a pattern to be established.
Perhaps I'm missing your point here; please clarify. With all due respect (honestly), I fail to see where McD has installed a "team first" attitude. Where has McD come down hard on anything as of late other than covering his own ### and shifting the blame on this situation to the front office?

The really rotten part is, this guy is not going to ruin his career. Just like TO, he will never truly get the misery he so richly deserves. He will move on, get a fat contract, and continue to be a stud. NFL teams take chances on talent, and BM has exceptional, just exceptional talent. When on his game, I think he is pretty uncoverable.

The same things were said about TO, in San Fran. And Philly. And Dallas. Still getting paid, has a freakin' TV show for cryin' out loud.

The Broncos move, to me, is trade him. For a 1st. If they can't get it, then start fining him, suspending him. Cost him money. Tell him to suck it up, play well, and they will move him after the season. But they cannot have him be any more of a distraction.

For the whole "You can't let players whine their way out of town" thing, I don't think you can waste a year putting your foot down, and teaching a lesson. At some point, you have to address it. Forget the precedent, do what is best for your team. And really, is it so awful if a player forces his way out of town? Get players that want to be on your team.

I don't understand why they traded Cutler when he acted like a baby, and now everyone criticizes Marshall for doing the same thing. Marshall has taken it a little farther, but I can understand he is upset that he now has a horrible QB. Way to completely destroy a team Denver.
Is this really a guy your team would want? Do you think Andre Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald would be acting like he is in that video if they wanted a trade? Is that what Anquan Boldin and Roddy White did when they had problems with their contract?Personally, I don't care how talented he is, I wouldn't want him on my team knowing that he is capable of acting like this. He already had a lot of question marks about his character, and this is just the cherry on top.
A team signed Vick, so I'm pretty sure someone would take a chance on him.
Obviously, but that is not what I was saying at all. The post I replyed to said Denver destroyed their team, but getting rid of this guy is hardly a bad thing no matter how talented he is.

McDaniels, Marshall and Cutler have all acted immature at times in the past, and all deserve some of the blame for the problems in Denver.

But after watching Marshall pull that stunt at an NFL team practice; I don’t want him on my team...

just reading between the lines here. That was the Patriot way - there was a good article posted during the last meltdown about it. Really, it's the only rational way to explain all of this - it's possible that this is a case of me trying to fit a pre-determined conclusion onto what has happened.Shifting the blame on the front office- I haven't seen McD do anything of the sort. Not sure what you are talking about.

Just heard the Marshall thing on NFL Live. Unreal, unprofessional, and just AFU. It's a waiting game now on his departure flight out of Denver regardless of who / what is to blame.

Somebody bump the OMG MARSHALL SHUD GET PAYED!!!!!1 thread.

Maybe little Brandon can hire himself a nanny.

:football: :lmao:

It still amazes me the kind of ball washing cult of personality that football attracts.

This thread pisses me off

I'm pissed at Brandon Marshall

I'm pissed at Josh McDaniels

I'm pissed at Pat Bowlen

I'm pissed at everyone in this thread who has the gall to defend this woman beater, grown man acting like a 3 year old throwing a temper tantrum.

I have to sort out my feelings and not be so pissed before I can tell you my take on all this.

Why a team would trade for him, knowing that he will want a big pay day or he'll shut it down eventually, is beyond me.

Brandon Marshall is NOT worth the headaches he'll bring in his 10 cent head.

That video is seriously damaging. I understand the rationale for cutting your losses, but this isn't a Cutler situation where you can get a lot in return. That video (and Marshall's need for a new deal) pretty much makes him almost worthless in trade. I bet Denver would struggle to even get a 2nd rounder for him at this point. If I am the front office here, I sit him down for the first 4 games for conduct detrimental to the team. I set the price at a second rounder, but don't even field offers until he serves those four games. If I get no offers I let him rot on the bench all year. As an organization you can't let Marshall win this battle here. He knows he is a free man after this year. Anybody with a lick of brains would be playing hard so he gets that future deal. If Marshall hates his situation now, wait until he is suspended multiple times for detrimental conduct and also deactivated on game days because the coach says he doesn't know the plays. Right or wrong a coach can crucify Marshall in the media. Marshall would have to get on the field to win this PR battle. Will someone give him a chance next season? Of course. But no one will sign Marshall for the mega-deal he thinks he is worth with all of this drama surrounding him.

You make a lot of valid points but you should never say never when it comes to pro sports. There are and will always be desperate GM's trying to hold on to their job and will sell their souls so to speak to win and keep their jobs. Marshall can still get big money and all the team needs to do it put in some morale clauses to protect themselves. Just my .02

Why? I don't understand this thinking...So the guy is too good just to cut, but has very little trade value. Move him for whatever you can get ASAP and move on with your life. Who on the Broncos really wants to enter the 2010 season without Marshall and having gotten nothing in return for him just to say "we showed him"?I think letting Marshall win the battle helps the team in the long run...

I think in the long run Denver fans will be happy that Cutler and Marshall were traded. They weren't going to win a super bowl around an emotionally fragile QB and dumb### WR as their foundation.

Not if the uncapped year kicks in. If it does, he has two more after this one to get 6 years of service.

I guess we agree to disagree here. You let Marshall pout his way off the team and now there is a clear path to always get off this team. There was a lot to be gained by moving Cutler. Unless they get a second rounder, why move Marshall now? Sit him down. Make everyone in the league know he is screwing up here. Tell him how it's going to be and let him decide if he wants to ruin his whole future and be deactivated every week. No matter how Marshall wants to spin it, that won't land him the mega-deal he wants going forward. He needs to shut up soon and start playing and studying hard or watch his career (and future earnings) dive into the toilet. Right now, I don't have a guess how this will go, but I suspect he cares about the money a great deal. And he is only going to get that by getting on the field and playing hard for the Broncos. This guy definitely defines dumb in my eyes. He beats a woman and wants to celebrate because he got off. He doesn't get it and probably never will. Million dollar talent and 10 cent head. It's easy to try and blame McDaniels for everything wrong in Denver, but I see the Marshall situation as all Marshall's fault.

May I suggest this means a little too much to you?The NFL is a show. It is an entertainment business. Everything you think or feel about the NFL should keep this in perspective.

From another thread, someone's summary of the interview:

Some of it was "blown out of proportion". "Error in judgement." "Let my frustration get the best of me." Says he apologized for that, most of that was before practice started. Wants a fresh start somewhere. If they don't trade me I have to do my best with the Broncos. Says someone told him, "Yes, we will trade you." Way back in the summer time, but we are getting ready for the season now. He doesn't have say so in personnel side of it, so doesn't know why he wasn't traded. There you go. In a nutshell, he isn't happy, but tried to say the right things during the video.

AP reports Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall told ESPN on Thursday night that he's not trying to force a trade through insubordination but that frustration got the best of him during a churlish display at practice this week.Back peddle. Full reverse. BEEP, BEEP, BEEP. Damage control!!!

Someone put a bug in his ear along the lines of 'Hey, stupid'.

He could be getting suspended for conduct detrimental.
That's true, but you'd think they'd go ahead and announce that.
I would think it's a case of the team building up a good case so that if/when they do it, there's no doubt if it goes to an arbitrator that they were in the right.Marshall is killing his value on the free agent market next year. I'm sure that other teams are real impressed with his attitude and are probably raising theiroffers for him even now

I think Joe should disable the profanity filter for a few minutes for this thread just so everyone can express their true feelings towards this jackass.

That someone was probably his agent. Can you imagine that phone call? His agent just lost some serious scratch, and for what? Because some man-child wants to throw a tantrum? Wow.

I think that McD managed the qb fiasco poorly, but I can't point to a single thing wrong with regards to how he handled the Marshall situation. There have been missteps for sure, but that is more front office stuff - i.e. not renewing the contract, the crap about not getting to excited after his court victory, etc., but as far as what happens on the field - I can't say I would have done anything differently, nor do I think McD should have done anything differently. You say he acted like a buffoon with a good number of things over the past few months - can you elaborate without referring to anything that happened prior to May (i.e. the last three months)? Or even better, any buffoonery related to Marshall?
I'd like to see an answer to this. McD hasn't offended Marshall, and I think if he got a shiny new contract, he might think McD is just swell. This is about money, people.
Somehow this is lost on most people here.

I'm a little confused at people's reaction to McD's handling of the situation with the media. Most coaches are going to be pretty curt about a situation like this. There's a lot of money and a big player involved, I think from a professional standpoint you have to take the minimalist approach.

Hold, on it's my pick in a draft. Let me go draft BM and see if I lose my logical perspective on the situation as well. BRB...

I felt he should have been paid better for his on field performance.

But after seeing this disgrace....this bush league immature punk act.

He can rot.

Suspend him for 8 weeks, then let him ride the bench all year.

And I own him on 2 teams to boot. But this is such so bad.....what a punk and what a loser. This is not what a professional does......ever.

I can't watch the video from work. Can someone give me a brief idea of what he did?
While team was on the field together, he was sitting on the sideline with his helmet between his legs. When the team was jogging, he was walking between the players. While team was running drills carrying football, he punted the ball to the other end of the field rather than handing it to a ballboy who was right next to him. While running routes, he punched a ball passed to him instead of catching it. It was about a 30 sec. clip so not sure how long this lasted.

Not accurate according to some people, including Marshall. Said the sitting down clip was actually BEFORE practice even started and the walking through the beginning stretching portion was due to him fixing his pants. Mike Golic said those two behaviors are not uncommon on the practice field, however the punting the ball(which marshall verbally owned up to) was idiotic. Now he is suspended but some of those clips were taken out of context. Just sayin..

That could be the case. The video did not give much in terms of context and I don't usually watch/listen to the talking hacks on E!spn. But reports from camp have been that he has been indifferent and lackadaisical up to Wednesday's fiasco.
