**Fake Scarcity Mixtape Draft #1: Tuesday picks 12 & 4PM EDT (1 Viewer)

Make-up pick ... time for a slow jam:

My name is Shakespeare

A world-class poet

Lay down and relax yourself, baby

While I pour you a glass of Moët

4.18: "Turn Off The Lights", World Class Wrecking Cru (Drug/Alcohol - Champagne)

Make-up pick ... an even slower jam. Apologies for the cheezy grapics:

5.02: "Tell Me What You Dream", Timothy B. Schmit (Solo Song from Band Member - Eagles)

Yeah, yeah, I know ... don't pick any Eagles. But remember -- I was the guy that kicked off the Soft Rock Draft. So you can't groan too loudly :D

Anyone know the huge country hit cover of this one?

that last one was all kinds of awesome.

Oh, my god. It's the slow dance at the prom.

World Class Wrecking Cru might be the best name ever.

"hey. what's happenin' baby."

#######
Great way to start a career for Michel'le, too. She was dating the record's producer, Dr. Dre, at the time "Turn Off the Lights" was being laid down. The original female singer couldn't make the recording session, so an on-hand Michel'le stepped into the booth.

5.20 Lazy Sunday - Small Faces (Month/Day)

I owe my love of this record to one of the ubermega nerd drafts: the album of the year draft where we had to pick one album for each year from the fall of the Roman Empire to presents. I waited on 1968 and all the obvious picks were off the board. I liked the Rod Stewart Faces but only was familiar with the hits from the Steve Marriott era. I saw Ogden's Gone Nut Flake on some list, downloaded it, listened and fell in love with the oddball psychedelia. It would be one of the albums on my Desert Island list if the island came with Jean Shrimpton, Twiggy and a few sheets of LSD.

Nice turn Binky
Thanks man! I really hope to turn some of the FBGs onto these classics or remind them of how good they are and bring out the old playlists on spotify. Its also great to discover other stuff people love. Love these drafts - thanks for running it!
The more drafts we do, the more I've shied away from the classics as great as they are. Just have taken them too many times over the years.
I like these drafts because I listen to stuff outside my comfort zone. I have broader tastes than a lot of people but I still end up listening mostly to new stuff (some of which isn't so great), the next band I'm going to see, artists and genres that I already love, stuff that Mrs. Eephus plays, etc. From this draft, I'll end up listening to some bluegrass, some classics, Nigerian funk and Deutschen Lieder (whatever that is) to name just a few.

So much music. Not enough time.

This pick takes Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh, etc. off the board in this category.

So there is a God

ETA: The sax solo at the 3 minute mark of the Schmit song :lmao: In my mind's eye, it's played by that greased up musclehead who performed in The Lost Boys.

Draft is on park now except for make ups.

Post one pick on Saturday (#6) and Sunday (#7).
Oops, just seeing this. I just saw your pick and knew I had back to backs. I can take my #6 pick back if anyone wanted the group of the song...

5.14 Stuck Between Stations The Hold Steady

"He loved the Golden Gophers but he hated all the drawn-out winters."
Nice pick! Love that song, and completely forgot about that line.
as chock full o' references as their songs are, you could pretty much draft something of theirs for every category imaginable.
Went looking for a video for the spreadsheet, and noticed that the drummer was wearing a Rush t-shirt. Band can't be that bad! ;)

Yeah, I thought if we had a reference to literary characters category, that song would be my #1 pick.

is that the song that namechecks Sal Paradise?

Beautiful pick. I was trying to use Small Faces somewhere in the draft and overlooked this one.

I freaking love Steve Marriott - drafted Humble Pie many a time in these drafts. Have been delving deeper into the Small Faces and I like everything they ever did. Talk about a criminally underrated band.

I think I have us missing 2 picks each from Tasker and JML, with one more from Mr. CIA and we have rounds 1-5 done.

We can keep going this afternoon.

Remainder of round 6 and any makeups on Saturday

Round 7 on Sunday
Are we doing 6 in order, or pick when ready?

6.02 Color Decay - Júníus Meyvant - Foreign Country (Iceland)

Júníus Meyvant is a solo project by Icelandic singer/songwriter Unnar Gísli Sigurmundsson. As far as I can tell, "Color Decay" is the first and so far only song he's released. The gorgeous brass and strings arrangement blew me away when I stumbled onto upon it last year. I linked to a live performance so you can see Sigurmundsson in all his Ginger glory but the studio version is better. I'm looking forward to a full album's worth of material from him.

I think that could have worked for inbred family category too.

really nice song- and yeah... amazing to see stings and horns worked into a contemporary song like that.

Will we go back to a normal format on Monday? Pretty please? I don't really see a need to rush. There are tons of picks left in the categories, so I'd like to savor the music. (I'm listening to your pick right now.)
