**Fake Scarcity Mixtape Draft #1: Tuesday picks 12 & 4PM EDT (1 Viewer)

10 Murderers - John Frusciante

Solo Artist Less Successful than Band - Frusciante left RHCP some 5-6 years ago. A bit of an odd duck, but a talented musician for sure.

11.10 Journey To Arnhemland - Jamiroquai

Solo Instrument - Didgeridoo. That's right, DIDGERIDOO MOTHA ####AS!!!!

I went with a live version so you can see the guy actually play the didgeridoo, and because I think it's probably better than the studio track. Either way, that rhythm section is one of the best in all music history. They can carry a didgeridoo in front of them for 5+ minutes and still deliver a solid song.

nice didg.

eta: brah.
:D

Was pretty confident that one was a lead pipe lock to be a snipe proof last rounder for me.
loved it. nice to hear jamiriquywhatever again too- never bought any of his stuff, but always enjoyed hearing it.
I'm serious about their rhythm section (the front man is Jay Kay, the band is Jamiroquai though you wouldn't know it from their videos) - for my money Derrick McKenzie and Stuart Zender were one of the best rhythm sections I've ever heard. Subsequent bassists for the band with McKenzie on drums haven't been far behind either.

@Eephus - I know my Bryan Ferry pick isn't on spotify. Let me know if any of my others aren't there either and I'll draft alternates after everyone's done with their required picks.

didn't know that- fell for hat guy being the band.

Most of Ferry's albums are available but Bete Noire isn't. Too bad because I like that record. I think it's a record label thing because the 80s King Crimson and Fripp stuff on the same label EG is also unavailable.

You can either pick another song with an available number or substitute another Ferry/Roxy pick with a similar vibe.

Every state I wanted is taken. I really didn't anticipate this being a tough category, and yet here I am.

This still fits and probably my favorite from them:

Live from Ohio, it's The Black Keys:

damn, was hoping for them in the wild card round. That song is still my favorite of theirs.

I'll go with another number after everyone's made their normally allotted picks.

Are we doing the 12th bonus round still? I could probably go a few more beyond that too. Please don't make me focus more time on actual work!

I have a couple of picks I can't decide between for the bonus round, too. I either need to mulligan or go to thirteen.

11.xx Non Je Ne Regrette Rien Edith Piaf

Female
Awesome. I know this was in Inception, but wasn't it in another famous movie scene?
Not sure, but it's a beautiful song. I like La Vie En Rose quite s bit as well and went back and forth between the two. Actually, her whole catalogue is haunting.
So I'm sitting here playing the song over and over and trying to remember what scene from what movie this song is from (I'm sure many) and my daughter walks in and says "are you watching Babe: Pig in the City?" Pull the movie out and it's in there :bag:

Lol, did not know that. I didn't even remember it bring in Inception until you mentioned it.

Argentina

Australia

Brazil

Canada

Denmark

England

France

Germany

Iceland

Ireland

Italy

Mali

New Zealand

Nigeria
Norway

Scotland

South Africa

Spain

Sweden
Wales

So many countries left to choose from. All of the UK is gone, except Northern Ireland, but I didn't feel like drafting Clodagh Rodgers

Scandanavia got pillaged heavily, unfortunately, except for Finland, but HIM, Apocalyptica, Villa Nah, The Rasmus, Lordi, Hanoi Rocks and the Leningrad Cowboys are all dominated by Penis. Western Europe got pillaged with Spain, Italy, France and Germany taken, so no Alizee, Lene Lovich, Boney M or Guten Tag by Wir Sind Helden

Can't think of anyone from Belgium, Portugal or Switzerland

The Netherlands have a couple I could go for like Shocking Blue or 2 Unlimited, but they don't fit well on my mix.

I'm not even gonna touch Eastern Europe.

I could go really obscure and pick some African or Asian singer that no one except Eephus has heard of, but I'm going to go to Columbia instead and pick the gorgeous Shakira

11.02 - Shakira - Don't Bother - 4:17 - International

This isn't their best known song, but it's been my favourite for a while (and thankfully seemed to be the model for much of A.M.)... almost always the last song they play live.

10.4 - Arctic Monkeys - 505 (numbers)

Hey Eephus--since no Welsh bands are available anyway I'm going to go ahead and change my international song---same band, different song.

Drop Some Things Come From Nothing and add (Drawing) Rings Around the World. It fits my mix better and is available on Spotify. Thanks!
I guess this opens mulligans. Please be clear about what you're dropping and what category it's for.

You can switch country/number/drug/etc. when you mulligan.

Sorry. Didn't mean to jump the gun but I thought I couldn't change countries so this wouldn't affect any future picks.

On the subject of mulligans, I'm dropping my QOTSA pick, which I figured I would, and replacing it with Alice In Chains - Real Thing

Same topic .. Cocaine, I guess that's really what I was drafting in round 3, some flexibility in the drug-alcohol cat. Not that this song fits into my hodgepodge any better, but it has structure and a hook and I like it more..

11.05 - Nite Jewel - "Nowhere To Go" (chicks, man)

I agonized over this one, wasn't sure which way to go (see what I did there?). I've been getting really into Nite Jewel of late, and this one's upbeat enough to fit on my mix. "What Did He Say?" is probably my favorite of hers, but doesn't fit as well with what I have so far I don't think.

I think I'm going to zig with my draft- a lot of these more left-field picks are inspiring, so I'll throw these two out there.

I was going to go with a Hold Steady tune for drugs/alcohol, and still might swap it in since this doesn't exist on spotify, or even on youtube much... but for now I'm going with on of my favorite local bands ever (from the 90s)... kind of a supergroup of indie kids (camper van beethoven, mr, bungle, etc):

6:5 Snowblind in the Liquor Store- Dieselhed (drugs/alcohol)

Her breath smelt warm, warm with Kahlua. Kahlua and coke, clove cigarettes.

7.17 Steamroller- The Family Cat (sports)

Steamroller mine, gonna roll over you.

Steamroller mine, gonna roll over you.

and the Saints are playing at home today.

and the Saaaaa----aaaaaaints.

Saints= Southampton FC. ALso not on Spotify.
Swapping out the Dieselhed tune (as much as I really love it and the band- just doesn't have any presence on the webz to add to a playlist). apologies to anybody who had Kahlua lined up.

6.5- Constructive Summer- Hold Steady (Whiskey)

Make-up pick:

I was a big Casey Kasem American Top 40 rat back in the day, so the Legitimately Popular Song choice was very hard to narrow down. On a different day, I might choose something different, but for now ...

11.04 - "One Night in Bangkok", Murray Head (Legitimately Popular)

#3 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart on May 18, 1985 -- almost exactly 30 years ago.

Everyone is aware that Murray Head is Anthony Stewart Head's brother, right?

I ALMOST took this song but wanted something from Prince. Any song about chess is cool with me.
