**Fake Scarcity Mixtape Draft #1: Tuesday picks 12 & 4PM EDT (1 Viewer)

Round 12. Assuming noon is the correct time to pick. If not, and someone really wants Banshee, I will pick something else and the spotify playlist.

Bonus pick:

12.x Banshee - Kendra Morris - female artist.

Would've preferred Mazzy Star - "Fade into You" but that appears to have been selected in previous drafts and I am trying to avoid that.

Final Mix on Spotify

YouTube links:

1) "Seven-Eleven" - Mindless Self Indulgence - #11

2) "Caught by the Fuzz" - Supergrass - Marijuana

3) "Gone Daddy Gone" - Violent Femmes - solo xylophone

4) "Everything Moves" - Bronze Radio Return - state Connecticut

5) "Edge of Seventeen" - Stevie Nicks - solo artist not as popular as band (Fleetwood Mac)

6) "One for the Razorbacks" - Green Day - song with team name in lyrics or title

7) "Pumped Up Kicks" - Foster the People - legitimately popular song (#3 of 2011)

8) "A Little Piece" - The Jezabels - Female artist

9) "Banshee" - Kendra Morris - Female artist (bonus pick)

10) "Some Might Say" - Oasis - Family members (brothers)

11) "Friday Night, Saturday Morning" - The Specials - day or month in song title (Friday)

12) "Deportation/Iguazu" - Gustavo Santaolalla - International artist (Argentina)

For my bonus pick, I will select another female singer, blues great Susan Tedeschi, with her gospel cover of "Magnificent Ssnctuary Band".

12.xx Adam Faucett - Day Drinker (US state - Arkansas)

This guy has been dubbed Arkansas' truckstop poet laureate. He writes some great songs and his voice blows me away. His debut album from last year is excellent.

I wasn't going to take a 12th rounder, I thought my playlist was weird enough as it was.. but then I heard the piece de resistance, played live in person Saturday night, and I realized right away it ties everything together perfectly. No really.

Clutch - Spacegrass

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88HJnar9e8w

My home for a full twenty years now, the greatish state of Maryland

Here's the playlist link. https://open.spotify.com/user/juddzilla/playlist/1QS7PXF2zmJ9B99skh4lKR It's more or less chronologically ordered, with one exception made for better flow. All over the place, to say the least, that's part of its charm

Like this one. 513 views in almost a year just seems wrong when a cat falling into a toilet gets a million.

Speaking of Arkansas, I never knew before this draft that Al Green was born in Arkansas. He was short listed for a while.

You had your 8th round pick as a US State, it was not input into the spreadsheet for some reason...

8.xx Doleful Lions - I Can Take You To The Sun (US state - Illinois)

The only link I could find was their bandcamp page for the entire album.

I want to enjoy the mixes for a while but I thought of some future category ideas.

covers: both the original and covering artists come off the board

relationships: a spin off of siblings category for John & Yoko & Exene

cities: like countries and states but for NFL or MLB cities.

dirty words: songs containing lyrics on the FBG censored list

NV's degrees of separation draft sounds fun as well, although an early round snipe would be brutal.

12.20 Once Bitten, Twice Shy - Ian Hunter (post-band solo)

Hunter and Mick Ronson did some great work together between the deaths of Mott the Hoople and Ronson. This is the opening track of Hunter's 1975 solo debut and the album rocks from start to finish. Great White's version probably helped Hunter pay some bills in the late 80s but this is the one you want to hear.

Hunter was relatively old during the heyday of Mott the Hoople. He was born before WWII so he's old than all members of the Beatles and Stones. He's still active and producing solid albums at the age of 75. His 76th birthday is in two weeks. Rock on.

12.5 Up With People- Lambchop (Tennesseeeee)

Might as well continue my Lamb run. never saw the video before. kinda... trippy.

eta: also feel like I'm getting into my summer songs mood- this one is one of my favorite sit on the porch and have a drink songs. if I had a porch. or drinks.

Gotcha...

I too am struggling with my 12th rounder. It's a revisit of the international category. I have it down to 3 (and yes, I'm breaking ranks and spotlighting here):

Fabric - Midival Punditz - India, breaks out of the overly euro/amero centric trend, fits my overall mix pretty well

Headhunter - Front 242 - Belgium, super cool tune, but I'm trying to avoid the 80's as much as possible, also fits my overall mix pretty well

Der Kommissar - Falco - Austria, a very guilty pleasure (#### After The Fire), but it's another 80's tune and probably fits my overall mix the worst of the 3

Which should I go with?

whoever took that BOC tune- it rocks.

eta: lol... I keep running my desktop version which are MY tunes in the background. that wasn't blue oyster cult at all... it was the latest Titus Andronicus. pool or a pond.

eta:  I was sitting there thinking -wow- I don't remember boc sounding like this at all... must be some of their earlier stuff, or maybe they got into a Clash phase.

headhunter, IMO.

that falco tune got played to death where I lived.

11.7 - More Than A Feeling - Boston - Top 5

Hit #5 in 1976. Got to see them in the 80s on their 'Third Stages' tour, in Boston no less ;) . Man, were they great. What a voice Brad Delp (RIP) had.

This was a surprisingly difficult category. Every time I went to look at a song or group, it seemed they would hit 6-10 on the Top 100, or would only hit high on the Rock chart.

My Spotify incompatibility replacement pick (for my Numbers song, Seven Deadly Sins):

Six Underground - Sneaker Pimps

Number - 6

I often struggle to bring 90s tracks into these things, glad I remembered this one.

I don't do spotify, so if someone else could put up my picks there it would be appreciated (assuming anyone else wants to listen to them) :D

Maybe a live tracks category?

I'd like to do a mulligan for my drug song.

I'd like to remove Morphine Girl by Mandolin Orange for a Meth song.

2.10 - Methamphetamine - Old Crow Medicine Show (Category: drug/alcohol song - Meth)

I can't get that OCMS to drag in my playlist. I'll just keep Morphine Girl, and Mandolin Orange will be my featured group with two songs.

Bonus pick:

12.10 - Waltz about Whiskey - Mandolin Orange (Category: solo - Mandolin)

I'll set up my mix in the order I want and post it later.

I really like the 7 degrees draft idea, but do think that snipes would be brutal.

A tad more work, but a while ago we did a mystery draft. What if we did something like that for this idea too? Something like:

- commish or an outsider picks the artists/bands we are doing and PMs them to us. Could be a different one for each drafter, or maybe have one for every 4 drafters.

- can draft in any order, so you don't have to spread out from your starting artist.

- the last round will be a song from the artist you were assigned, revealing who you had.

International - Belgium

Because Floppo said so.
wait... front 242? I meant herbie hancock. that song sucks.
Allright, I'll have to go a different direction then. Will redo my 12.12 pick shortly.
One of the Spotify versions of this song is off a compilation called "TSOB-The Sound of Belgium". Oddly, one of the tracks on the album is by Au Pairs who have no connection to Belgium that I can find other than the band broke up after singer Lesley Woods no-showed for a concert in Brussels.

And yeah, the song kind of sucks.

ETA: I may have to redefine kind of sucks after listening to the Geronimo song.

ETA: It's kind of catchy by the third chorus or so.

Acoustic?

Thanks for running the draft Eephus. Any possibility that you could consolidate the spotify links on the first page?

For the 12th round, and in honor of the R40 tour (Going next week!!!), I am picking a song from Rush.

Tom Sawyer - Drum Solo - Original Song

Scene from the HBO show Togetherness, where two guys do the drum solo in a car.

The writer/director brothers on Conan, describing how the scene came about.

Thank you. The way the Internet has kind of schmidt all over Rush has always rankled. Comes off as ingenuine from a lot of people: "C'mon, man ... all the cool kids HATE Rush. They sell records and stuff."
