FBG Subscriber Contest Strategy (1 Viewer)

Anyone else have their contest entry cleared out? I went in to double check and my team is empty and it says I have not submitted an entry.
If you have some sort of problem like this, mail me the roster before the deadline closes and I will see that it gets entered.

if history repeats itself, you should be able to still change your lineup well into the morning.

Why are you guys picking kickers and defenses? The rules changed this year. YOU DON'T HAVE TO.....
Not sure what rules you are readingImportant information:The full contest rules are located here. The cap is $250. You must select exactly 22 players. No more, no less. You must select a minimum of 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 PK, and 1 Def.

We got derailed a bit this morning on week 1 switchover issues and Doug Drinen was not able to lock it before heading to work. We will not DQ anyone messing with their lineup, but understand that the contest will lock down as soon as Doug gets home from work (around 3:00pm - 4:00pm Central Time). If you are fiddling with your lineup then, you could end up with an incomplete roster.

Great, several more hours of agony deciding whether or not to mess with my lineup.

I am so happy to leave my roster alone - even with the later lockup dealine. After what feels like 200 different entries, I am good to go.

...most valuable tool of FBG website was "link back to entry form" on the Subscriber Contest... must have changed it 20 times yesterday

I'll share some of my strategy with the original poster, since it truly is a good bit of luck. I try and choose, first and foremost, as many of the value options available - guys I think that will outperform their $. That's about it. Once I'm down to picking $1-$3 guys, I'm still picking guys that will have the best chance to outperform their $. I don't draft LT, Manning, Harrison, etc. Just mid-round value guys. Almost every player I take starts for his respective team.

But seriously, even giving this "strategy" away, doesn't give that much away, since we all have differing notions of what consitutes value for each player anyway...

FWIW, I was cut around week 12 last year I believe.

Fun with numbers...

average number of entries per person?

I am way over 100 I think, just because I tweak quite a bit.

my strategy was to emphasize the ppr aspect.

I follow the same strategy, but I remember last year that the people at the end all had LT (and Ben Watson and Frank Gore).

Seriously, if Gore and Watson did anything I didn't care at all because everyone had them.

I think I made it until the week that all three of my qbs were out (Simms, Favre and Warner). Oops.

My strategy was to start off with the most super awesomest 22 player team, and trim down gradually.

I ended up going 3/5/7/3/2/2

What in the world did Ben Watson do last year? You lost me on that one

He did nothing, but was on a bunch of teams. Received a little bit of hype last summer, before people remembered that Brady spreads the ball around, and you don't get points for super-sweet tackles of Champ Bailey. The point the poster was making is that most entries had Watson and Gore, and LT. So you didn't separate yourself by those players going nuts. Just a guess, but at his current price, I imagine Garrard will be on a lot of teams. So yeah, Garrard might be on the winning entry, but he'll be on almost everyone's entry. So the guy that wins it will have to get some bargains that aren't so obvious, like the Tennessee run situation. Just throwing an example out there.I did the same as last year, avoided the very top players, and went with a deeper roster, focusing on PPR. It was a loser strategy last year, and will probably continue to do so.The winning philosophy is probably to swing big for the fences, grab as many top tier guys as you can, and hope a few penny players come up big for you.

i went back and forth between WR8 and TE3 quite a few times. the data i looked at from last year told me that on average, about 35 WRs and 13 TEs scored over 10 points (arbitrary cutoff) on any given week, so it was hard to make a case for 4X as many WRs as TEs.

If I had to guess on Watson it's likely that his price/projection ratio was much better than the TEs near him, so he was taken by many teams. Kind of like Garrard right now.

Here is how I spent my dough:

QB - 3 for $37

RB - 5 for $89

WR - 6 for $82

TE - 3 for $27

K - 3 for $3

D - 2 for $12

If you do the math, you can see I didn't take one of the top 4 TE's, and I chose 3 kickers for $1 each. IMO, the expensive kickers are by far the worst deals. Hell, I'd take Vick for $3 over Vinatieri for $5. At least that's 2 less bucks I'd be throwing away.

WHEEE

QB - Peyton Manning - 31

QB - Joey Harrington - 6

QB - David Garrard - 2

Manning was the only person on my team who never got unchecked. I had planned to go with a Manning/Favre duo, but needed the few extra dollars to do what I wanted elsewhere.

RB - Ahman Green - 23

RB - Adrian Peterson - 23

RB - Cadillac Williams - 21

RB - LaMont Jordan - 19

RB - Ladell Betts - 14

Went with 4 way undervalued starters, especially with half PPR. Betts was a late add after I drafted Portis in my big $$$ league.

WR - Lee Evans - 29

WR - Deion Branch - 26

WR - Bernard Berrian - 16

WR - Donte Stallworth - 14

WR - Arnaz Battle - 5

WR - Wes Welker - 3

WR - Patrick Crayton - 3

Upgraded one spot to Branch to have some kind of steadiness to the group. Everyone else is the up and down type I like in this format. Had S Holmes for quite some time, but he had to go due to bye week issues.

TE - Daniel Graham - 7

TE - Donald Lee - 1

TE - Eric Johnson - 1

Absolutely love Lee and Johnson for $1 each. Upgraded from Shiancoe to Graham in the QB modification.

PK - Rian Lindell - 1

PK - Rob Bironas - 1

TD - Minnesota Vikings - 3

TD - Arizona Cardinals - 1

:pickle:

I expect the most popular picks will be Garrard, ADP, Lee Evans (cheapest "stud" WR), Berrian and Jacoby Jones.

$20+ RBs seemed to be the sweet spot every time I looked at the list. I could not find any stud WR picks to my liking.

Here is my not so scientific WAG:

QB - Philip Rivers - 19

QB - Brady Quinn - 3

QB - David Garrard - 2

RB - Reggie Bush - 45

RB - Jerious Norwood - 24

RB - Deuce McAllister - 23

RB - Adrian Peterson - 23

RB - Lorenzo Booker - 3

WR - Bernard Berrian - 16

WR - Kevin Curtis - 10

WR - Devery Henderson - 9

WR - Demetrius Williams - 3

WR - Bryant Johnson - 3

WR - Chris Henry - 2

TE - Vernon Davis - 23

TE - Bo Scaife - 9

TE - Ben Troupe - 5

PK - Nate Kaeding - 4

PK - Olindo Mare - 3

TD - Chicago Bears - 8

TD - Baltimore Ravens - 7

TD - New England Patriots - 6

Total value: 250
