FBG Subscriber Playoff Contest (1 Viewer)

By my unofficial scoring, it looks like I'll be counting Flacco (20.7), Boldin(17.3), and AJ (19.1) today for a total of 57.1 added to yesterday's unofficial 86.95. In the clubhouse with 144.05 this week, and both Superbowl teams still alive. I feel a little more comfortable than before I ran today's numbers, but not ready to relax just yet. :scared:

Here's my Quizomatic Unofficial scoring for Houston-Baltimore:

I'm at 160.75 + James Jones + Kuhn + Tynes

Comfortable with Green Bay opening this game up and getting lots of points :)

A cut line of 163.75 or so would be good :)

-QG

Still Alive:

NE - Brady, Gronk = 101.45

NYG - Eli, Jacobs, Manningham, Tynes =

Knocked out:

Hou - Casey = 0

Den - D Thomas = 15.3

GB - Grant = ?

NO - Brees, Colston, Graham = 75.2

Pit - Cotchery = 0

Dont think my NYG-NE staff is enough to contribute in the finals should I make it but would be fun to pull for them.

Holy crap! I was just kidding around with that line about a 181.75 cut line. I can't believe the REAL cut line is 180.75. Total coincidence!

Go Baltimore/San Francisco! :excited:

Sorry to KP and smarchit :( all joking around aside you guys made the thread fun with the rivalry.

That is a sick cut line.

Unbelievable how high it is. I'll be really curious to see how the top winning teams in the end are constructed... clearly my strategy of loading up on my projected SB teams and going skimpy on the others, hoping it would be enough to get buy, was flawed. I was nowhere close to the cut this week.

Glad that Holloway isn't eligible - he'd have me covered (12 total Ravens/49ers to my 11) - he also has Nicks and Eli.

Wish I went with Nicks instead of Bradshaw. I think they were within $1-2 of each other. His disappointing year (in which I drafted him numerous times) told me otherwise.Interested to see what the cut is next week. I have a feeling it will be low with 2 "surprise" teams in the NFC.Good luck.

Again, I just can't get over how many entries with no chance of winning have to be accounted for in this contest. Seems like (and this is completely speculative) maybe 10% of entries are designed to even have a shot of winning, and even that may be too high.

On one hand, it's a nice challenge to have rules with a bit of nuance, enough of which gives an advantage to those paying more attention. But at some point with so many people seemingly oblivious to how to actually win, I'm beginning to think it's a fundamental flaw that the vast majority of entries likely don't understand the rules fully.

That being said - man, do I love these subscriber contests.

Still alive, but done next week with only 5 guys scoring, been fun though.
I think you might have a great shot to win this. I clicked on 30 entires and didn't find one that had a serious chance at winning this except ofr one of the staff members. One guy had picked all QBs and is down to two players. Most teams are only scoring 4 players.

Surprising to say the least. I think a lot of the serious entires got flushed out this week. If we had a query function, I think it's highly likely that you could identify the 16 guys who will win this contest right now.

Very confused- I thought only the top two players were scored, yet the numbers being tossed around are pretty high. Must be cumulative adding on to last week?

Made it through, but lost one of my Superbowl Teams (GB). It would be interesting to know if out 2,000 entree's who's still got their "Superbowl" team(s) still alive. In order to win, you need to load up on more at least one, if not two teams to have a shot if you make it to the final 1,000. I know even if if I survive next week, I've got too much dead money in GB to finish towards the top. Good Luck to those that picked a NE or Balt / NYG or SF superbowl!

Anyone notice the Summary Stats link was broken? I'm down to:

Brady

Ridley

Gronkowski

Ravens DT

Ahmad Bradshaw

Kendall Hunter

Anthony Dixon

I think I could get past a 50-60 point cutoff next week if the cutoff is similar to last season, but surely someone will make it through with more than 4-5 Super Bowl players. Plus EVERYONE has Brady and Gronk.

The top two players are scored and the points werent cumulative. My team scored 248.15 (Highest for me in any week for a subscriber contest) and was courtesy of Brees/Colston, Brady/Gronk, Eli/Tynes and grant and D Thomas. My dollars wasted so far were:James casey $3Cotchery $9Grant $7Should have went with another Pat or giant, assuming the two of them make the big dance. Nicks was $18 and Bloom called this out on his playoff ranking piece "Will start to benefit from more attention to Cruz". Should have listened.

My playoff contest teams are mostly focused on players from the 49ers and Ravens. I did not particularly think that these two teams were the favorites, but liked the value of the number of players that you could get combined with the potential to make it all the way.Since both my teams were NOT wild card teams, I selected two players each from the WC teams I expected to win (NY Giants - Eli & Nicks and Bengals - Dalton & Greene) and then added two Lions players (Stafford and Calvin) who I hoped would score well and upset the Saints.Obviously losing four players was not what I hoped for and now I am counting on only six players this weekend as well as wins by my two Super Bowl teams to get me by. Using 20/20 hindight, if I could have know how well Stafford and Calvin would have done, then I would have added a player or two from either the Packers or Patriots rather than the two Bengals.Oh well.
I think the biggest problem in your strategy (other than assuming the Bengals would win :) ) is the teams you picked for the Super Bowl. You went with two low scoring offenses. Even if you get by this week, you would have trouble with next week. Assume the top 4 seeds win this weekend. If you only have your SB players up against entries who only have GB/NE players, you would have trouble advancing even if SF and Baltimore go to the Super Bowl.
this doesn't make any sense - If his 2 teams win they must score to win. Having 4 players in the 2 games should be enough to make it to the finals.
I also have the two NY Giant players, IF the Giants can beat the Packers. However, even if I only have four scorers for the semi-final round and they are the two lowest scoring teams remaining, one or two of the Ravens or 49ers could hit big. I could see Ray Rice getting over 150 total yards and scoring multiple TDs and similar possibilities for Frank Gore. In addition to this, I don't have to be the high scorer, just make the cut so that my heavy 49er and Raven roster gets a shot.
I think you guys are missing the point. First, it assumes that the top 4 teams win, which means there will be no players from the Giants available. Second, there aren't two players on SF who are likely to outscore Rodgers and another GB player, especially if GB is playing from behind. And, other than Rice, the same goes for Baltimore versus Brady and another NE player. You could very easily miss the cut even with SF and Balt winning. For example, take a look at the Detroit/NO game. Stafford (41.1) and CJ (45) outscored Brees (41.2) and Sproles (22.5) by a wide margin, even though they lost to NO by 17 points. It's not hard to imagine that every single Detroit entry had both Stafford and CJ on their roster.
i think he'll be fine. there are so many people invest in the saints that if sf wins, he'll be up against a ton of teams carrying dead money into next round. the same point you're making against his team is the same point that will get dead money teams over the cutline this week with no chance of advancing next week. it's a wash worst case for him and will liekly lean his direction if sf wins.
I wonder how many SF/Balt entries made the cut. I can't imagine too many did with the cut at 180.75.

Man!!! I was LMAO as I read the responses to your sarcasm last night. I'm not laughing so much now. The contest admins DID catch the caveat that "Quizomatic Scoring" is unofficial, right?!?! Dang spoilers and Patsies!! On the positive side, I can now join my fellow Pittsburgh fans in rooting for the Pats and Ravens to BOTH explode just before kickoff. It was a fun first year run for me (both this and the reg season contest), but my anticipated problem of not having enough non SB balance came back to bite me in the butt. Good luck to Quiz and the others that are advancing.

okay I'll cop to the fact that I literally looked at each entry hunting for other Balt/SF entries like mine. Was able to do about 10 a minute. The following is my haphazard analysis - tightest on Balt/SF - for the other scenarios there's possibly some entries I missed.

I'll post again with the entry numbers of possibly 'relevant' entries by scenario.

anyway here you. Incredibly there is a NE/SF entry that has 15 super bowl players left! There are a bunch of 12s and 13s as well. This was the most popular combo of those left.

NE/Giants was probably 2nd most popular and has a couple 11s and a couple of 12s that I found (can't recall if there was a 13 in there)

Balt/Giants seemed to be the least popular scenario. I'll cop that I may have missed a couple relevant ones here (the Giants are listed toward the bottom of each team's entry) but the biggest one I saw was an entry with 9. There were a few with 7. I don't think I saw more than 1 entry with 6 Ravens on it.

Balt/SF had about 11 'relevant' entries - that is ones that have at least 8 Balt/SF players. 9 of 'em had 8 and I think one had 9. And then one entry had 11 (mine :excited: ) - I do not have a 'lock' on it if it's a baltimore/SF super bowl but I have an excellent excellent shot if those are the teams.

So there you go :)

I think you have a great chance to money with that Super Bowl. I clicked on 40+ entires and didn't see a one with more than three players left from any one team.

Okay here's some of the highlighted entries. (Quick aside - most of the other Balt/SF entries sit a little better for making the cut than mine does)

Caveats -

1) I looked at everything by brute force, so there's a possibility I missed a viable entry here or there (though there's less chance of that with the Bal/SF scenario as I care about that one a little more :) )

2) It's certainly possible - more like probable - that some of these entries with great Super Bowl set-ups will miss the cut. Readers should bear that in mind.

3) In conjunction with 1) and 2) - I have looked at the "extra" (i.e. Non-Super Bowl) guys that the key Balt/SF entries have going this week. I didn't do that for any other scenario.

4) Particularly with the 2 NE scenarios after I found a couple huge-player entries I skipped a couple 10-player entries that I looked at afterwards.

Balt/SF

100585 - my entry - 7 SF 4 Baltimore - Tynes Ridley Branch this week

105323- - 0 SF but 6 Baltimore the only one with this - has Jacobs and Gronk this week

103282 - 5 SF 3 Baltimore - Eli Nicks BJGE Gronk this week

102604 - 4 SF 4 Baltimore - Jacobs Ballard Tynes BJGE Welker Gronk this week - this entry may have a shot with a Balt/Giants Super Bowl as well

101194 - 4 SF 4 Baltimore - Eli Nicks Ballard Giants D this week - this is another entry that may have a shot with a Balt/Giants SB

102115 - 4 SF 4 Baltimore - Nicks this week

102046 - 3 SF 5 Baltimore - Branch Eli Jacobs this week - another Balt/Giants possibility

105591 - 6 SF 2 Baltimore - Brady Welker Gronk this week

102116 - 5 SF 4 Baltimore - BJGE Eli Cruz Tynes this week

105162 - 4 SF 4 Baltimore - Brady Welker this week

103269 - 4 SF 4 Baltimore - BJGE Bradshaw Giants this week

102512 - Thank goodness this is a staff entry 7 SF 5 Baltimore - Eli and Nicks this week

That does it for Balt/SF - the rest of the highlights next post.

This guy has only 7 players total on his roster

This guy has 8 total players - 4 going this week

There's another entry in there somewhere that went with like just 8 QBs - he's guaranteed to have the 2 Super Bowl QBs. But that's it. Didn't mark down the number.

Side note - if you find more contending entries, feel free to post them :) I am quite sure my list is not 100% complete, particularly for the non-Balt/SF entries.

The red one is mine and I am kicking myself for not getting Smith and Flacco in the mix, I am sure I could have gotten them both and someone else to get me through to now just on what I spent on Brees and the other Saints

To give you an idea how capricious things in this contest can be. I kept going back and forth between Stafford and Megatron as a sizable investment to get me through week 1. Stafford cost $5 which was tough, but after looking at all of their games I decided to spend the dough for what I felt was a little better shot of getting out of week 1. In the middle of this, I decided to go a little more concentrated in my week 1 selections (2 Lions and 2 Bengals and 0 Texans and 0 Falcons) - more variability but I figure if my teams get through I got a better chance. As almost an afterthought I used a couple bucks to shore up my week 2 and (in my mind) week 3 line-ups and throw Kuhn in there.

I swapped out Calvin, T Gonzalez, B Scott, and B Tate

I swapped in Stafford, Scheffler, Benson, and Kuhn

After last week I'm kicking myself a bit as I lost some variance and didn't seem to get much out of it.

Then the games get played. Kuhn catches a touchdown and totals 7.5 points. Tate doesn't get a carry and gets 0.0 points. I squeak through by 5.2 points. The move I cursed after week 1 saved me in week 2.

Just shows how much of a factor dumb luck can play in this thing.

I had assumed when I lost one of my SB teams I was a dead entry, now I'm not so sure I couldn't compete with a NE/NYG final. Think there's any chance?

This entry is still alive.

That will beat mine.I have Welker instead of Hernandez plus I have Ocho Stinko,But I have the dynamic duo of Bradshaw and Ballard to your Eli and Nicks.Really need Giants to make it next week and then to stink it up in Super Bowl. Can't believe I am pulling for the Pats didn't think that day would ever come.
