FF Trading and the innernets... (1 Viewer)

I'm sure many leagues- even those with relatively little trading- experience a flurry of trading activity this time of year as owners face the trading deadline. The leagues I am in use email as the primary tool for trade discussion. With people working different jobs and shifts this works out just fine during the season. Time usually isn't a factor...

...until the trade deadline approaches. To expedite things some of us have taken to making multiple trade offers involving some of the same players. Then it becomes a "first come, first serve" sort of thing. I don't have a problem with this, however there are those who might take issue when, after agreeing to the terms of an emailed offer it turns out that another deal was consumated, thus negating their trade.

I was wondering what the FBG's thoughts were on this subject. Your  ?

That sounds pretty bush to me, but business is business. You may or may not do the same thing but I think a lot of people, when they are looking to trade, shop around.

Obviously, its a low-rent practice to agree to a deal only to back out when something better comes along. I always start with e-mail but do the closing on the phone, so there's no uncertainty. Our league is made up of long time friends and all are lawyers and business people so negotiating is fun, never personal. I always advise that I'm in discussions with others involving the same players, whether its true or not, partly to spice things up but also to make clear that nothing is settled and everything is in play until the deal is closed. Generally speaking, if something is agreed to by phone or e-mail its a pretty serious breach of protocol to back out. That said, our general rule is that no trade is complete until its been accepted through the online service (CBS Sportsline), and that envelope has been pressed several times over the years.

I just traded Chester Taylor and Bernard Berrian for Reggie Wayne using this trading strategy.

I now have the Manning to Wayne combo.

Any more questions?
