Game Day Rituals: "What's your go-to snack or superstition for watching games?" (1 Viewer)

Mine could be a combo of wings, nachos or charcuterie board. Prior to being an adult wearing a football jersey. Vices trying to not swear when there's a bad play or throwing something at the tv.

Generally only plan food when I have friends over, which is generally a good matchup Thursday night, Sunday night or Monday night game. Since I grill year around, usually Burgers, carne asada. wings or Ribs depending on how much work I want to put in. Always a selection of beer and various booze drinks. Tequila is generally the most popular. When I'm watching solo, I tend to not go overboard with calories.

Don't get nearly as emotional when watching anymore. More head shaking at bad performances than yelling at the screen. Still passionate about watching but just express it differently.

Pizza. Yeah, that covers it. I'm usually not worried about prices, but the prices of wings are so stupid that I won't order them from the wing chain places, which is all we have around where I live. It's all chain stores and no Mom-and-Pop stuff. So I'm not paying twenty-two+ dollars for twelve small wings, dawg. Uh uh. And I love wings, so that's a shame. Garlic parmesan. Buffalo sauce. Love those two flavors. Could huff them down all day.

So yeah, pizza. Used to have a place down the street from me (this was definitely local Mom-and-Pop) called the Pizza Grotto, and that wasn't cheap, but they had great pizza until they went out of business. And they were like right next to the casino in my town/city and couldn't make it work. It's a shame because they did a great sort of comfort/deeper crust pizza. Loved it.

So I'm in the market for suggestions. Fire away, fellas.

If it’s friends over / prime time, I’ve got the grill going, and for a small group of 3-5 it’s tritip.

The shape lends itself well to a mix of people who like rare to medium rare to med, without having to be super meticulous with steaks. Just shove a thermometer in that bad boy & wait for the phone to buzz.

Beer, bourbon, occasionally tequila.

Must be a slow news day.

Get an air fryer if you don’t have one. By whole fresh wings and split them yourself. Air fry for around 25 mins turning halfway through. Toss in a pot of your fave barely warm sauce. Wala

As good as anything you can buy fried and you can’t tell the difference imo

ETA: fresh celery and ranch 😉

You spelled Blue Cheese wrong.

I probably should have added blue cheese for people that don’t know the best way to eat wings

I do not have a go-to snack....usually eat a good meal prior to any game so a decision about a small snack or two mid game is usually done on the fly. Whatever I got hangin round in the pantry that interests me.

My go-to ritual is to have a few beers and partake of some weed during the game. I too no longer scream at my TV in futile hopes that the players/coaches on the screen will hear me........sadly, I only recently made the distinction.......

One of the things I try to make a conscious decision on is to really enjoy my Eagles game by watching it all, every play, AND completely avoid looking at my fantasy scores (except maybe for halftime.) I'll worry about that stuff later.

Voila?

Cmon son, we gettin food fancy up in this hizzy.
Assumed Walla Walla Washington transplant or Bugs Bunny aficionado

My go to brings the spice. Love flavor. Cook up hot sausage sandwiches with sautéed peppers and onions or pierogies with kielbasa peppers and onions. Paired with sweet and salty snacks or a hot peppers in oil/meat and cheese board.

San Diego California here. So ...Smoked Brisket Tacos w/ beans and rice. Brisket is slow cooked for 12 ish hours then mixed with spices to hit that sweeet spot. I buy tortillas made by a market down the street who make them daily, fresh salsa and crema. I can also hit up another Cantina that makes enchiladas by the sheet pan to go! I'm a sucker for this. No lie.

Several years ago I woke up late on a Sunday morning and found a note from my wife saying she had made me a 7 layer dip that was in the fridge and she'd be out shopping all day. I spoke of this day in reverent tones to the point she know makes me a 7 layer dip almost every NFL Sunday. God bless her heart she does not get the other part that made that day so special but the dip is truly awesome. So that's my go to snack and how it came to pass.

Pizza
That I make at home
But being a Giants fan the last few years I have stopped eating BEFORE a game
And now eat AFTER a game
That way I'm not losing my meal while watching the game
I will even make a preemptive strike and down a few tums BEFORE the game

I get so much anxiety on Sunday mornings trying to get the right line up in my Redrafts and then pick however many dailies on DraftKings
That's why I talked to my doctor and got a prescription for CouplaBeers
It's been a game changer for me

Can of relatively easy drinking beer at about 8 or 9am immediately after a cup or two of hot coffee early
I find that first can in the morning on Sundays gets me super charged and focused for the games

If I started drinking 8-9am id be asleep by the first national anthem ...

I can't stay awake for the SNF game
I just watch it early the next morning

Usually cook a spread for family and friends. Chicken wings, chicken parm, burgers, that kind of thing. Don’t usually drink anymore, but if I do; bourbon or tequila cocktail, sometimes a beer. I’m 54 now, so I just don’t do well anymore with booze- hate waking up the next day feeling foggy.

My son has really gotten into fantasy, so if he’s not hosting a Red Zone group in our basement, we will watch together.

I’m purely Red Zone now, except when there is a legit blockbuster game. I’m a cowboys fan, so not much to bother with by carving out a block just to watch Dak throw absurd picks and/ or watch whatever pedestrian coach mismanage the clock in late game situations.

Have my fantasy apps up to track. More casual now, but that’s how it goes as you move squarely into middle age, just other parts of life are more important, but still love the ritual of game day and watching what is still the best product on tv- the NFL on Sunday afternoon.
