Game Thread W1 - Denver V Jacksonville (1 Viewer)

In case anyone cares that isn't watching, the game has been delayed and the players removed from the playing field due to lightning.

So Jax fans, what's up with those middle 50 yard seats? It is like the stands between the 40's in the lower bowl are empty and those would be the best seats in the house. Are they just over priced?
No, those are the club seats. Inside their concourse are couches and chairs and numerous TVs. Those people go inside at the drop of the hat. Kind of like going to a sports bar to watch a game and still being able to say you were there. For everybody else, you can tr to squeeze into the Bud Zone in teh South end zone that was already packed because of the heat or just stand around in a crowded cement concourse.

Seriously, don't know why people have been dismissing Mike Thomas.
He's seen as the WR2 on a run first team.
Aye, but offensive philosophies can evolve to match player talent, much like last year's Giants, and he has great playmaking ability.
Although it's only one game but perhaps we'll have to re-evaluate the situation since Thomas has had more targets and catches than MSW and Lewis has been the redzone target.

I am screaming NO NO, don't try the FG!!! Punt it and take the field position.

Now I see why I am not a HC in the NFL. :lmao:

Garrard to Osgood for 24 yard TD. Garrard's 3rd TD pass, Osgood flagged for excessive celebration. Jags 24-17.

Drive heavily aided by two face masking penalties to McBean.

Wow, Lloyd came within half of a foot of tying it up there.

Edited to fix my Yodaspeak.

pathetic MSW has ZERO catches. I was wondering (before I read this thread) if he was even playing today!? This cannot be good for his psyche going forward ...

I am thinking it is not good for my psyche as his fantasy owner. :hophead:

Hey, you guys ever hear of Champ Bailey? Just curious...

My thoughts on the game:

1. Eddie Royal put on a clinic today showing why I think great punt return skills translate well to the WR position. Between fielding a tipped ball and repeatedly making people miss in space, it was a nice reminder that we've all been counting him out too early.

2. Still waiting for Moreno to show me some burst. He's a solid RB, but he's not a great one. Buckhalter still seeing a lot of snaps. I think a lot of people overestimated how big of a workload Moreno's going to get this season.

3. Brandon Lloyd was working those deep sidelines with a vengeance. I think I counted 6 such passes with him as the target. He looked good. With all the talk about what a great story Mike X Williams is, if Brandon Lloyd could actually make something of himself, it'd be just as big of a surprise.

4. Holy hell Orton, that was perhaps the most gutless slide I've seen in years. There's a time and place for the QB slide. The red zone is not that place, and the 4th quarter when down by 7 is not the time. Lower your damn shoulder and get the first. It was particularly egregious given how far away the defender was. I freeze-framed it, and Orton began his give-up slide at the 16 and a half when the defender wasn't quite to the 9 yard line- the guy was still almost 8 yards away!

5. Speaking of Orton, he played a great game for the first 54 minutes (up until that disgusting slide), but what was up with all the tipped passes? At least 4 or 5 balls were batted at the line or deflected off of a defender's helmet. I haven't seen that many batted balls since Chris Simms was starting for Tampa Bay.

6. Maurice Jones-Drew. He's really, really good. All the injury concern was a bunch of needless worry.

In all, I'm glad that the Broncos aren't going to get off to a great start and get everyone's expectations up this year. This wasn't a good team last year. This isn't a good team this year. I miss Mike Shanahan. I was never this fatalistic when he was around.

Mile High Report has been raving about Prater all offseason. Sounds like his struggles are behind him, and this is still the guy who booted 4 50+ yarders in his first 8 games placekicking for the Broncos. Hopefully his success carries through the season.
