General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (1 Viewer)

Legacy of the Dragonborn is the best but it wont be updated for a bit I think.

Skyfall Estate is pretty too.

There was also one where the basement was a giant steam bath/brothel with a dozen naked NPCs wandering around.  That looked pretty cool.

I had completed the game as a destruction mage/archer when the game first came out. I am playing again, this time trying to go as a conjurer. Trying not to use destruction magic. I am sure I'll have archery as a back up. The bound bow is too much fun not to use it. The thought of some NPC stumbling across a corpse with multiple puncture wounds, but no visible arrows always cracks me up. I'll have to see how it goes vs dragons. I used to use ice spikes a lot vs dragons, the stamina drain would bring them down the ground for an easier kill.  

Melee characters didn't/doesn't interest me much.

Fireball is a lot of fun against weak stuff I find, just because... I mean it's a ball of fire that explodes. Take that wabbit!

Ice storm is amazing if it isn't against Nords or other resistant stuff.  Guys charging you down a hallway, all lined up for your little tornado of cold wind, which also robs them all of all their stamina so they can't give chase.

If you're still using Flames, there's another level of spells (Firebolt, Lightning bolt, Ice spike I think?) before you get to the area effect stuff.

Chain Lightning is nice too incidentally, especially against mages. It's easier to hit with lightning stuff since it travels so much faster, and you don't have that heat haze that you do powering up a firebolt or fireball.

I agree with others that other types of magic are fun too though. I've done plenty of fights where I stood around a corner and just kept sending a Dremora Lord in to kill something, casting a new one when the first died.  Fury is great, making your opponents fight each other before they even know you're there. Telekinesis has a few uses getting at hard to reach stuff.  Or just having fun and launching it into people's faces.

Well you can jump right into Skyrim. It is set well after the last game so you don't need to have played it to get into this one. And the enhanced edition has all the DLC.

 
So I know there will be some new players coming on board. I was thinking of including some tips and tricks if anyone is interested. I would love to see the same from others. I constantly learn new things about this game.

 
I married Lydia both times I have played.  Who else have you guys married?  What is the benefit of marrying that NPC?  I like Lydia because she sets up a store in my house, which is open 24/7 and there aren't many stores open 24/7.  Plus, I used Whiterun as my base of operations, which I will probably do for additional times I play (on PS4 or XB1).  She is also one of the better looking NPCs.

 
I like the miner in... the mining village over near Riften.  Silja or something like that.

Also like the one waitress/singer in Ivarstead, Leyla Starsung or something like that... but you have to use a mod or the console first to get her so she'll marry.

 
I almost always use lightning as my magika weapon. It's the only one you can aim like a range weapon - and it looks cool. The skill where your lightning strike can jump from person to person is pretty bad### in a brawl as well. I might fire up another character - I've never taken a side in the war or completed the Thieves guild quest.

I married Mjoll and Jordiss IIRC, likely won't be picking this up till later this month or for Christmas :kicksrock:

All NPCs provide the store bonus. I almost always choose Mjoll as she is a tank and I spend much of the game using ranged attacks or stabbing stuff in the back.

Head to The College of Winterhold ASAP and do that entire quest line.

 
I am completely addicted again. It's such an incredible game.

My all time favorite non sports to be frank. I am having a totally different experience the second time around and it's even better. Pure RPG bliss.

Absolutely no fast travel for me. That is a huge key. Finding places to shack up at night and set out in the morning is part of the fun too. Whether is is an inn, an abandoned camp site, or like today near Dawnstar I found the lighthouse, did the quest to see wo murdered the family there. Then after....stayed the night and set out to Dawnstar. 

Level 18 now. Heading to Falkreth for a numbers job for Devin (did a bugluray for Vex in Winterhold) , then back to Riften. Doing some side quests along the way of course and hitting the main story line in-between. I obtained Frost as my steed. Of course I look forward to getting Shadowmeere again once I start the DB (after the Thieves Guild is finished all side jobs as well). Sneaky/Archer/Thief is incredibly fun.

I think I can probably say, without sounding sexist, that I'd prefer my spouse stay at home where it's safe rather than go dungeon crawling.

Though I probably can't say, without sounding sexist, that she's doing so wearing her slave Princess Leia outfit.

Lydia is the only one I have married. The store makes some nice money and she is definitely one of the better looking choices.  I know we had someone who went gay marriage.

I married the hottie at the mine just north of Riften last time.  Damn woman sold all the stuff I had stored in her house, so I had to put a cap in her ###.  Don't think I will marry this time around since I bought the land so quick in the game. 

 
Never gotten married in Skyrim.  Didn't even know you could.  I just saw a tip saying I could adopt kids too... why the eff would I do that?

 
I always marry the sister of the guy you get the golden claw for in that one first town.  Although my new Skyrim waifu is Vilja.   :wub:

Because I didnt know what I was doing when I did the alt beginning. Im pretty sure I just asked for a random storyline from the lady god. There is also dialogue in the NPCs that I know should not show up in the beginning and I want to learn how to use a bow and arrow for my sneaky assassin. I am pretty sure there is a tutorial in the beginning that teaches you these things. Its been a really long time since I fired it up so not sure I want to take any shortcuts

As far as marriage goes, I usually ring up Ysolda in Whiterun. Cute little innocent voice.....and free crack, er, skooma. How do you beat that?

Yes, voice is what drives my choice. And why I wouldn't consider marrying Lydia and have to listen to her nag. Ysolda and the Sylgja (the miner) use the same voice recordings.  I also like the female nord voice, so Mjoll, or the singer I mentioned who is only available by mod/console, Lynly Star-Sung.

 
I went to see if Famous Followers (Daenerys and Khal Drogo) was available for Special Edition.  Didn't see it mentioned anywhere so don't think it is.

But found this while searching and it makes me want to go play Skyrim right now.

 
I see people pick at Lydia for her attitude, for me it's a plus. To everyone else in Skyrim you are the Arch Mage, Thane of everywhere, Dragon killer, world savior. But Lydia is not impressed, not even a little. She goes everywhere and sees how the hero was made. it isn't always pretty and she knows it. Every time someone starts blathering about how great I am I just know she is rolling her eyes. Keeps me grounded and that's good.

I'm pretty much doing the same. Walking everywhere. No level grinding just letting it come naturally.  Loving it.

 
Well I mentioned some tips and thought I'd put one out there. So early in the game there is a way to get Elven weapons and a shield. No glitches involved. When you have to go to White Run do so on foot. On your way you'll see some people fighting a giant. You don't have to get close just do a couple ranged attacks they'll do the real work. Approach after the giant is dead.They will compliment you and suggest you go see the Companions leader. When you go to White Run the first time you enter Companion HQ there will be a fight going on that has everyone's attention. You want to immediately go to your right downstairs into the living area. You will see two guys sitting in a room if you head that way you will see a hall to your left. Enter the door and close it behind you. In the case there will be an Elven bow and a bow skill book. Do a save and pick the lock. If you run out of picks you can go back to your save. Once you have the case open steal the bow and at least read the book. You just really upgraded your offensive capabilities. If you go back out and enter the room where the two guys are talking you can wait until they leave. Then close the door and pick the two cases in there if you want the sword and shield. Same thing save first and do your thing. This gives you a nice boost with no glitches necessary and you can do it level one.

Yeah robbing the Companions blind is always a must-do first step on a new playthrough.  

I'd love a mod that starts you out with the following things completed because on every playthrough I always do them first and they are so tedious by now.

- The Helgen escape

- That golden claw quest

- Main quest up to killing the first dragon

- Just put all the Companion's Elven #### right in my pack.

Yeah I could see this for second run throughs. Would certainly expedite things. Although I really enjoyed redoing the claw quest.

God no, don't read a Marksmanship skill book at the beginning of the game.  It's not that hard to level up at low level but takes a really long time at high levels. Save the book for when you're higher level.
