Who's done what; Imperial or Stormcloaks?

I'll be choosing soon. Any real differences to picking either side?

those aren't necessarily your only two options
Those are the main ones, no? Maybe the Forsworn? Actually, I just assumed it was a two sided thingy :bag:
I'm trying to avoid spoilers here, but let's just say another option might present itself if you advance far enough in the main quest first.

I think I've passed the main quest. If an option presented itself it went :whoosh:

my understanding (I read about this, didn't do it myself) was that you could try to negotiate a truce if you'd reached a certain point in the main quest

I've done the negotiation, but the impression I got is the truce is very temporary. I assume I'll still have to pick a side at some point. What I wonder is if I can play both sides /connery

holy #### I'm at level 28 and bandit chiefs are crazy. I prob died from a single power hit 5 times in a row. do I shoot him with poison or something? melee isn't going well for me, and my character is leveled up for it.

Get better armor. Cast a protective spell on yourself. Conjure something to help draw their attention away from you. Hit them with a bow or spells at long range. Poison them. Get them chasing you and lead them back to some soldiers if there are any nearby. Sneak up and backstab them. Turn invisible and backstab them. Turn invisible and go pickpocket his weapon out of his inventory (with the appropriate perk). Get a good health bonus potion. Drink a heavy armor bonus potion. Level up your heavy armor.I'm guessing it's probably a signal that either your armor isn't good enough, or you haven't put enough points into your health along the way. I had a similar problem with my mage and getting killed by two shots from archers, at which point I switched to heavy armor for all but my mage robes and started putting more points into health.

Finished the main quest line finally for the first time. Now TOO bad, but pretty easy. Second time through I always do nearly the opposite of what I did the first time for variety. I was a heavy armor, Daedric Warhammer-carryin' badass Orc chick that hit HARD. Now it's time for the sneaky in me to come out... oh, and the evil (I'm going to be joining the Dark Brotherhood and doing bad bad things) side, too.

Correct, you have a sit down with both sides to negotiate a temporary truce. It supposedly lasts until Alduin is kilt dead

am I the only one who tries to join every faction and complete them all before I finish the main quest?
I roughly "stay in character." So my first guy finished the D. Brotherhood and Thieves Guild, but didn't bother with the Companions or College. When I play a mage, I'll do the College. When I roll with a hammer smashing orc, I'll do the Companions.

Was trying to complete the Companions quest

with the Ax and all the Companions ghosts and found out something the hard way: no autosaves in that cave. Died at what appeared to be the end. ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE BEGINNING DUMMY~!@~!

:bag:
I cannot complete their quests. I went out on the witch killing one, came back and the leader of the companions was dead. don't know where to go from here. I have no quest options for them
Same thing happened to me. That's the way it's suppose to work. Did you go up to the Skyforge? His funeral is up there. I am on the next quest.
:sadbanana: A known bug is if you don't come along immediately with Farkas after Kodlak has been killed you won't be able to complete the Companions. When you return Farkas is known to just sit next to the body of Kodlak and the player is not able to interact with him because 'he's busy'.

I finished up the Mage's Quest last night and

The guy that had the Staff of Magnus was a total wimp. I had way more trouble with a skeleton dragon than I did that guy. I conjoured a Storm Atronarch and the guy was dead in like 10 seconds. That staff is pretty awesome though. And so are the Archmage robes. Almost a gamechanger as it's now very difficult to even run out of magicka. And the Transmutation spell I got to turn steel into silver and silver into gold is a pretty good money maker. No money making problems at all now.

Does anyone know when the new patch is to be pushed through to XBOX/PS3?

ETA: just googled it and it looks like it just got released today.

Am I missing something? If I have a weapon that is enchanted, then I use up all of the enchantment, there's no way to just fill it back up with the same enchantment it used to have? Is the used-up weapon now just a regular weapon?

Also, since I hit level 20, the things I'm finding randomly and that the stores have for sale have gotten WAY better. Found a glass bow last night. :pickle:

I have been putting everything into magika. i think Im at 370 and I still have a problem when duel wielding a fireball. When did you get the transmutation spell. When you completed the quest. I completed it a while ago but dont remember any transmutation spell

If you go to your weapon inventory, there should be something in the lower right hand corner that says refill. For PS3 its the R2 button. Then it asks what type of soul you want to use and it enchants it using the same enchantment it had

When I fought him all I had was the fire atronach and that wasn't enough. He killed me probably a dozen times before I finally figured out the right tactic to use against him.

I thought I found the transmutation spell in the cave where I got the Staff of Magnus, but I could be wrong and it was a cave nearby. And maybe I don't have a problem with magicka because I rarely dual wield. I usually equip fireball in one hand and Heal in the other. With the perk that restores magicka 50% faster while using Restoration spells, it fills up do quick that I never have issues. At least with the guys I'm fighting now.

What am I missing about Azura's Star? The thing stays empty all the time even when I'm trapping souls.
It just means you're killing smaller-souled things and you have empty lesser/common gems. If you ran out of those, it would put whatever you kill into Azura's, but ultimately you want to use it when you kill humans.

Well that's not as awesome as I thought it was.

The Azura's Star quest was one of the first things I did. I was, say, level 20 tops.

I'm now level 42, finished the main quest, and yet I still occasionally run up against a couple necromancers looking to avenge their boss's death.

I'll say this for evil mages: they never give up.

Finished Shrouded Hearth Barrow last night - nice mix of creepy and problem solving  Sneaky archers should be just fine in the final battle, especially if you have the zoom perk. One thing I saw:

Did any of you see the sword and other stuff in the alcove to your left across the broken bridge? I tried to shoot arrows & use my shout to get the sword to drop in the water, but couldn't get it. I got my whirlwind sprint from the Graybeards after I finished the Barrow, so I'm going to go back and see if that will help me get across the bridge. Can I assume this sword will "match" my level, or is it the same for everyone? Based on its color I'm guessing it's either glass or some sort of frost sword. Soooo cool for Bethesda to think of things like this

You are correct on both thoughts. Just Whirlwind sprint right over there and grab a leveled sword. Nothing too great if you have smithing probably but still fun to get it.

There's a bug in the side quest to get books for the mage college librarian. If you already picked up the book before getting the quest, he won't recognize that you have it and let you turn it in.

For people on PC, you can hit the ~ to open the console and then type "setstage mgr20 20" to advance the quest (named mgr20) to the stage (20) that recognizes you have the book. If you get the bug on the second book, it's the same thing but the quest name is different, adding a letter to the end like "mgr20b". You can get a list of all the quests involving him and the text options that are triggered by typing "help mgr20 0" in the console to see which one you need. Hit ~ again to close the console when done. Note that opening the console disables Steam's achievements for that character, even if you revert to a save.

People not on PC, er... wait for a patch.
