Question for the experianced archers out there....what perk do you like best, power shot or steady hand?
"All" /terminatorQuestion for the experianced archers out there....what perk do you like best, power shot or steady hand?
Powershot by far. Stagger not only disrupts a tank charging you, but stops ranged attacks from archers and mages. Always useful.Steady hand comes in handy sometimes, but other times it just sounds like you're trying to fart and the zoom fails.Question for the experianced archers out there....what perk do you like best, power shot or steady hand?
I started a new character. Steve the High Elf, he refuses to do anything but magic. Spent some time just standing on rocks outside of Giant Camps shooting them with Fireballs. Leveled Destruction up quite a bit.Used my first "cheesy" tactic for awhile tonight. I was out trying to level up because I want the last two levels of the initial Enchanting perk. So I put my bow away and was out using my sword and shield, trying to build one handed, block, and light armor, and healing to bump restoration. I seemed to be getting nowhere fast. So I decided to try and pick up a quest I hadn't done yet while in Markath.
I did the quest at the abandoned house in Markath. When the Boethien priest is trapped in the cage and you are supposed to beat him in to submission, I began to hit him with the rusty Mace the Daedra tells you to use. Hmm, single handed. I noticed I still had restoration in my left hand and thought to myself, could I? Yep, healing hands worked on the trapped priest. So swack four or five times with the mace, heal, repeat. It is very slow going at my level (I was half way through level 49 when I started). Even though my restoration was only mid 40s, it started out taking about five minutes per level and quickly went up to about 7 or so as I hit 50. One handed, which was already at 77 when I started, took between 18 and 20 minutes per level. So I did this for over an hour just to get one level up. Not sure if I can stick it out for that one more level I need. I saved while still there with the priest still caged, so we'll see. It's boring, but I just don't know how else I'll ever level up otherwise with all the things I used already pegged at 100%.But if you want to build one handed and restoration, this is a good way to do it.
This is fun... just got to 50 and got this perk. I walked by a noble on a horse and he was an #######, so I cast frenzy on his horse. He jumped off the horse and it started kicking the crap out of him and his guard.Oooooohhh! I can't wait until I get my illusion high enough to cast silently... going to F whole towns up.- Took care of Mjoll's little sidekick. He starts walking to Riften at day break. Got tired of following him so, waited until he was near a guard and cast "Frenzy" on him. I had to sheath my weapon and bribe the guard 20 gold not to arrest me, but then he turned on the little peckerwood attacking him and took him out. So that's that.![]()
This might make a lot of quests too easy(cidna mine, most dark brotherhood stuff).
This. I did all except Hunter's Discipline, Ranger, and the 2nd and 3rd level of Critical Shot. Steady hand is probably my fav though."All" /terminatorQuestion for the experianced archers out there....what perk do you like best, power shot or steady hand?
I'm pretty sure I won't be going back to my cheesy ways. Like I said, I did it for an hour yesterday to get just that one level up and I was bored to tears doing it. As someone who gets an hour here and an hour there, I just can't see wasting another session just to gain a level. So I'll either pick something like two handed and start visiting mines and caves again, or I could go single sword and use destruction and try to get a level up that way. Or just make my final armor set with 4/5 on the first enchantment perk. Odds are, it'll be the two handed thing as I'm only at 16 so it SHOULD level up quickly. Either way, I'm sure it will be more entertaining than swacking a trapped character for an hour!I started a new character. Steve the High Elf, he refuses to do anything but magic. I did them all with the exception of the two on the left prior to the final perk. I think one let you move faster with your bow drawn or something like that. Don't even remember what the other one did.This. I did all except Hunter's Discipline, Ranger, and the 2nd and 3rd level of Critical Shot. Steady hand is probably my fav though.
Yeah I am no good at the long grind I hear some people do. I get bored pretty quickly and just say heck with it.I'm pretty sure I won't be going back to my cheesy ways. It seems to me I defeat the purpose of playing when I take something fun and turn it in to something that seems like work.As I said, with two handed at 16, I should be able to level it up like a bandit by, well, hitting bandits! I know I'll miss a lot, but what the heck. I guess I need to head back to the crib and chat with Lydia. I gave her all the sweetest two handed weapons and sold the rest. So rejoin, trade, dismiss, go hunting.Yeah I am no good at the long grind I hear some people do. I get bored pretty quickly and just say heck with it.
Yeah the whole jumping everywhere you went comes to mind. I think I made some mistakes early on with perks that I will do differently next time but otherwise it's been fairly stress free.'Matthias said:Yah. In my eyes, that's the biggest improvement from Oblivion to Skyrim. In Oblivion you were kinda forced to grind skills to maximize your attribute boosts at level so I'd spend time jumping up and off of a fountain or other stupid ####. In Skyrim, I've never grinded or trained a level and everything seems to be working out just fine. OK, so after all my questions yesterday (and picking my way through this thread) I disenchanted a shield that had 20% blocking and I tried to add that to my Steel Shield but it only does like 5% blocking...is that because I'm not leveled up enough in enchanting?Really depends on your character. A magika regen is great for mages, not so much for a melee guy. And I have found most of the items with enchantments on dungeon crawls, and will only disenchant when I know will be able to enchant at the same level the item is or higher. Ex I found ebony gauntlets of major archery which increased archery 25%. I didn't disenchant that until I could enchant it at least at 25%. Now that I am at 100 enchanting I can enchant at a really high level so I disenchant most of what I find. For making money Banish is a great enchantment, you can enchant a dagger with banish and make 700-1000 on each dagger, problem is you have to travel all over hell to sell them all since most merchants only have 1000 gold. How are you guys enchanting all this stuff? Correct me if I'm wrong, but to 1st enchant something, you have to destroy an object with that enchantment, then enchanment the item you want. I hear you guys talking about enchanting mage robes with armor and stuff like that, but the only enchanted stuff I've found so far is like stamina reduction, or frost damage. Where are the better enchantments?
Question for those that have completed the Companions Quests
When you finally get the cure is it something that you get to put into your inventory or is it a dialog option? I haven't once turned into my werewolf form, don't really see the need for it to be honest, but don't want to give it up without trying it a few times first.
it is a freakin chore to get enchanting up, in theory you gotta build up your alchemy to create a weak enchant potion, then use it to enchant something to increase your alchemy, then creat more potent enchantment potions and enchant better alchemy wear...blah blah blah...repeat cycle... all along using perks to increase enchantment and alchemy, i guess in the end you'd need the highest enchantment and alchemy, is this the only pattern to getting up there?'Matthias said:Yah, although even after you increase your enchanting, you'll still find stuff that will be better in dungeons and shops than you can make yourself. Really the reasons you disenchant stuff is so that you can put it onto multiple items or items that you want to use it in and/or to get the experience from disenchanting and/or you just want to make available all the enchants because you're funny like that. But if you find an item enchanted the way you want it, you're probably better off just keeping it and finding something else to disenchant.OK, so after all my questions yesterday (and picking my way through this thread) I disenchanted a shield that had 20% blocking and I tried to add that to my Steel Shield but it only does like 5% blocking...is that because I'm not leveled up enough in enchanting?

I have never put a perk in to Alchemy. I never bothered creating potions of alchemy or enchanting either. The process was simply, get soul gems, fill them if empty, make daggers (improves smithing), enchant daggers (improves enchanting), sell daggers, level up, profit.Edit to add: I do save any enchanting potions of 25% or higher that I find until I want to make a premium piece of equipment. But even that isn't ncessary. That's sort of a "max everything out" kind of step for your personal items IF you want to do it. Certainly not required.high hrothgar spoiler

oops, prob should of said get enchanting levels up on items. wondering how high fire enchants, etc would be if you had both enchant and alchemy leveled up all the way, did that enchant alchemy cycle i described above a few times, would you be able to eventually build a potent enchant potion (100% increase maybe?) that would produce items equivalent to the ones you can buy'Matthias said:You can do it without the alchemy. Someone else will chime in shortly that is smarter on this stuff than I am. But to be honest, I don't know that you can make enchantment potions that are as good as what you can buy or find. If so, I would imagine it would take a lot of alchemy perks. I highly doubt it would be worth it. Unless your goal is to simply see how much gold you can accumulate. The goal is to create enchanted armor that stacks to 100% or higher increase in alchemy. With looping bugs, you can make ridiculous stuff. There's an explanation here although I've never tried it; not 100% sure that it works.
To what end? Serious question. I am assuming (and hence my comment above) it is so you can sell it and accumulate lots of cash? Otherwise, it seems like an extreme bit of work and a lot of perks that could be better served elsewhere to create that one set of uber armor and weapons. And, take this for what it is worth as I have yet to finish the game, it doesn't really seem that these uber items are going to be anywhere near necessary to finish the game?I guess the one thing I have discounted (and probably shouldn't), I imagine some people just do it because they want to see if they can. And if that is what is fun for them, then more power to them. That really is the key to the game! The goal is to create enchanted armor that stacks to 100% or higher increase in alchemy. I was level 10 I think. That thing kicked my butt over and over.I guess it's all about when you do certain things. I didn't get to High Hrothgar until last night, and I was Level 39...so the Ice Trolls were a push over. Basically two or three shots with my bow and toast.
oh ya, you def don't need it to finish the game. Not for cash either, its more of trying it out and seeing the effect of using one of these items. how fast can you take out a draemora, one shotting a troll with a bow, etc. Not necessarily that I'll ever do it if it hinders my character or takes too long, more wondering if it was possible. Totally for experience in the game, same reason that I'll replay as a mage, etc, to see what that's like. very veryTo what end? Serious question. haha. Also, I know people like to pick a weapons tree and level it up completely, I'm actually at a point where my two hand hammer is running through enemies (only leveled the base perks twice too, before moving up the tree, could be because my smithing, enchant, alchemy are high), and may forgo finishing that tree to explore more enchantment/alchemy as a level upSo I have the best bow/sword/hammer/axe/etc and the best armor. Same thing here, not sure what level I was but I would sneak and snipe. Can someone explain this in more detal? I noticed the charge differeance but what do you mean about the damage?Personally I would max out the damage and take the fewer charges. It's very easy to buy soul gems and fill them up to recharge your weapon with.In case anyone else didn't notice also, when you do a weapon enchant you can change the power to get more or less charges too. I can enchant a fire damage thing for up to 12 or 14 points, but I knock them down to around 7 or 8 and get a ton more charges.
When you enchant a weapon, sometimes upon choosing an enchantment (like fire damage for instance), the next screen will give you a slide where you can select how much damage the enchantment will do upon striking. It might range from say 1 to 15. If you choose the 15 points of damage, each strike will cost more of the "charge" on the weapon. If you lower it to 10 damage, each strike will drain the weapon less, at the cost of less damage. The key is when the strength of the charge doesn't matter. In the case of a bow with soul trap for instance. You don't need 5 seconds of soul trap as the arrow makes the kill instantly. So you can lower the slider to only one second, and the bow will lose much less of it's charge each time you fire. Can someone explain this in more detal? Well, I definitely think I can avoid it. All the alchemy talk got me thinking about how I've been storing all my ingredients in my house in Whiterun. So I took a few minutes to load all my ingredients in to that Alchemy Planner site. I can make 155 items worth 46000g.Yeah I am no good at the long grind I hear some people do. Given that I got bored with alchemy a long time ago, I'd be surprised if my alchemy level is out of the 40s. So I figure I can just sit there and make these potions, wearing a few pieces I hung on too (Krosis for an extra 20% to alchemy, gauntlets for the same), and level that skill up enough to get that last level I want. If not, I can use the trainer at the Companion's place to get another 5 levels of block, which is useful to me as a one handed sword plus shield guy as a backup to my bow. In fact, I'll probably take that training even if I do level up. Actually, I guess I should take that training first since I'd be able to train again once the alchemy gives me another level up.Anyways, alchemy isn't exactly the bees knees. But it beats the hell out of spending an hour beating a guy over the head with a rusty old mace! So sorry old man, but your soul is about to be handed over to a bad, bad Daedra.finally was able to get around to going after the flute and the drum from the Bards questline and was also able to turn it in. The rewards are pretty awesome, you get free training in like 6 skills for each one, just wish I could cash in the damn lute thing which is still not responding.I still have Pantea's Flute and Finn's Lute in my inventory and they wont go away.I mentioned earlier that the entire Bard's Guild questline is buggy. The glitch I cant get rid of as of now is Flynns flute, the lady at Bards college acknowledges that I have it and thanks me, but wont take it, so its stuck in my inventory. Maybe I have to find all the instruments first...not sure.
trolls don't like fireNo offense, but I don't know how you all had trouble with the troll on High Hrothgar path. I have trouble with just about every enemy, and I sniped him twice with my Flawless Elven Bow of Scorching and then he didn't even make it to me (or Lydia!!!) before I had brought him down with arrows.
