General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (1 Viewer)

I killed my 2nd dragon but I'm not sure if I absorbed its soul. I searched it and the whole glowing thing happened but when I went to activate a new shout, I had not absorbed a soul to activate it. Any thoughts?

It's there. On your Shout menu it will say something like 1 Dragon Souls available. Then when you find new powers you can choose to use the soul to activate it, or not.

BTW if you haven't done the first main storyline and killed your first dragon, it's worth doing for no other reason than it activates the random dragon encounters everywhere else.

Started back up with the main storyline.

Also been playing my mage now and then too, focusing on Destruction, Conjuration, and undecided between Restoration or Alteration.

I'm also going to work him on enchanting, speech, and smithing to craft crazy magic items.

I just screwed up big time and may need to start again. I lost my wood cutters ax and needed some cash so I killed the wood guy in Riverwood. I walk out of the house and it auto saves on me. I just did it for fun and now the whole village is after me. I'm pretty sure I'll be wanted in white run also. So even if I can run away, I'll be a fugitive. This suxors. All because I thought it would be funny just to see what happened.

You could just go to jail if you don't have enough for the fine. You'll lose the level progress you made, but otherwise it will be like nothing happened.

Two things -

1. If you click off the map, you can remove the blue marker from the map on PS3.

2. Archers: the Power Shot perk is money. 50% of the time your arrows stun opponents. This is just enough time to reload an arrow and hit him again. I've been able to take mofos out at point blank range by machine gunning them to death.

At first, everyone just came running at me to kill me but I made my way out of Whiterun and a guard said I could pay the fine. Thanks. I actually feel really bad about killing the guy. He was a hard worker and didn't deserve it. Taught me a lesson. No more killing just to see what will happen.

A couple of thoughts and questions:

If i have a house, can I just throw stuff on the ground and have it stick around? With all of the random crap that i have, its easier to sort it by pile on my floor rather than stuff it in chests and wardrobes. If so, does this also apply to quarters that you get as a reward from certain factions?

Regarding magic potions above, I can tell you some certain ingredients that will work if you want. I just eat random ingredients until i find ones that have the desired affect in common and then mix a potion. My favorite is when I know two ingredients that will work and I throw another random one. All of the sudden I have a potion that gives me some magic back with a side of poisoning thrown in for good measure.

Saw two dragons that looked like they were fighting each other last night and though i would rush in and help whichever was the good dragon. Neither were at all friendly, just two random dragons flying around, fought them both and felt pretty tough afterwards.

Also, is there a lockpick spell like there was in oblivion?

No!Only the chests remember stuff. I experimented with this by putting some food in one of the end tables. I left the city then came back. The food was gone.Only the chests. This is also another good reason to get the alchemy set. Even if you don't make poisons & potions, the set comes with a second chest for you.

I lost Lydia last night in a battle against a conjurer. RIP Lydia
Did you kill her, or did the conjurer? I've killed her a couple of times and alway reloaded. If you kill her it's permanent, right?
I whacked Lydia tonight by accident too. Decided to move on without her. It was a good run, babe.

I vaguely remember in Oblivion owning a house that had a bunch of display cases. You could see what was in there and you could use different cases to separate by weapons/indredients/spells/etc. Hoping eventually to get something similar in this game. Currently having everything I own in the dresser in the abandoned shack from the dark brotherhood intro quest.

cool, didn't know this.

Don't you save on your own at all? I probably cycle through another ten saves beyond the auto because I tend to do weird ####.

I do. But I was under the impression that the autosave saves over that file. If not, where does it save to?

It saves to an autosave file - several actually. You can go back a few autosaves, I think.

Also - regarding the weapons disapearing. There's a Draugr bad ### whose shout disintegrates your weapon unless your weapon is unique. Luckily, I was holding Sanguine's staff when he did it to me and it just knocked it to the ground.

Ran into a group of 7 Wispmothers. While Stigandr NEVER runs from a fight, he decided to let them all live while taking a leisurly jog down the river bank on the other side of the river.

Note to Stigandr: Don't #### with a group of Wispmothers.

I started doing that after I caught someone's buffalo looking thing on fire and they killed me. Basically doing the same thing Acer did. Ran into and out of some homes not realizing the saves. Now, I save before seeing how people will react to being attacked

Has anyone else run into an Elder dragon yet? I was getting all cocky with these Blood and Frost Dragons and ran in expecting to show this Elder Dragon what's what. Turns out he had the same plan for me and his plan was more thought through. I was at nearly full health when he reaches out and chomps down on me and picks me up in his mouth. Then he decides to fling me about 1000 yards down the side of the mountain. You've made your point sir. I'll tread more lightly with you around next time.

I need to look into this.

This is a great item. Getting it early on was key to my game.

Yeah - I'm glad I got it before spending too much on Conjuration perks. With the staff, what's the point?

Has anyone mentioned that this game is completely awesome? I've got like 18+ hours in the game, have only done ~2 main quests, still have like 70%+ of the map to explore, and have a billion active quests to choose from.

Good times.

For those asking PC or PS3, the reason the vast majority are saying PC (at least all around the net, not necessarily here) is two-fold:

1) The computer specs are pretty reasonable, considering the level of graphics in this game, so it's not for uber-rigs only

2) MODS!!! The modding community for Oblivion was mind-boggling (google Nehrim if you are curious) and it's assumed that it will be the same for Skyrim.

A MOD with nude females? Probability the maker of this mod is a 45-55 something guy who is fat, balding, and still lives with his very old parents?

I looked at my map that came with the game last night and realized I have not even put a dent into it. It really is amazing. How do you know how many hours you have played. is that listed somewhere

Break this down for me because I am a big conjurer. My flame antioch is my BFF

~ 93%, same as everyone else in this thread. Welcome. :nerd:

There's a side quest that gives you a staff that will summon a Dremora (Daedric ### kicker)

You can see it when you look at your save file.

NOTEDWas just thinking I can whip any dragon now.

If you go all mage, the last perk on conjuration lets you summon two creatures. That's huge if you have the magicka to summon two draemora or something.

So I decided my destruction/conjuration mage was too overpowered and getting boring. I re-rolled an Orc using a 2h Warhammer/Restoration magic and am having a blast. The only non-battle skill I'm currently working on is smithing which is surprisingly not boring in this game as it is in many others. Skyrim is easily the most fun I've had in a game since FF7 came out.

My character is a Orc and I focused on 2 handed weapon early in the game as well. My friend was a similar level and having trouble with some dungeon. It took him three hours to creep through it. As he was telling me about it I cleared the same thing in under 15 minutes swinging my hammer. It was awesome.

I've got a question about a mission that maybe you all can help with...

I'm doing the quest where you find the old lady and brother in Whiterun and they talk about the son/brother being taken by the imperial army. I found the note telling me where he had been taken and went over to the fort to see if I can get him free. It seems the only way is to go in swinging and kill everyone to get him out.

My question - if I do that, will the Imperial Army be an enemy from there on out? I haven't picked a side in the war and really don't want to at this point.
Thanks

Game has been a life-saver, been playing whenever I've been feeding the baby late at night/or if he is being fussy and not willing to go asleep. I put him in his swing until he falls asleepw while I'm dungeon diving.

Rolling with a Nord/Warrior 2H Greatsword, lvl 9 and smithing is almost at lvl 50!. Already in full suit of Dwarven armor.

Had a question though, what area is the best area to mine. I feel like this may be good to do while feeding the baby and something I can do with one hand. :banned:

ETA: Looking to make dwarven ignots for the time being, so wherever I can find the ingredients for that.

That's disappointing. This was going to be my character when I get the game.
:goodposting: Just getting into the game and planned on going this pure mage route as well. Why do you say it was too overpowered? What skills/spells were you keeping active (You can only have one equipped on each hand from what I understand)

My God I love this game. I am totally obsessed. Level 10 High Elf Mage named Moses. I have just started the Mage College quest line and have my first Greybeard quest going to.

Simply amazing, massive neverennding RPG.

Best non sports game I have ever played along with Arkham City.

Did the first dragon mission and then decided to do the Companions missions instead of seeing the Greybeards.

Quick question: Currently sporting a wood elf and working my bow skillz. Is there a certain place to get the Elvin armor; or do I just go and find it along the way?
