To get in the college? if so you need a fire atronach spell.

this. I'm playing a pure Mage and it is very expensive to buy all the mid and high level spell tomes. But I must say...dual conjuring daemon lords makes for a formidable toon. I've been cash poor the entire game so far.ETA. Conjuration chain is slow to start but stick with it. Rolling solo now and able to conjure a tank or ranged antronoch above the first ones you get is a huge plus if you dump all level ups into magic instead of health or stamina. A
I'd suggest you also use Alteration for Oakflesh, Stoneskin and the like. And also that you mix in a lot of points into health. I wasn't wearing armor with my mage, but then I hit higher levels and people were taking out over half my health with one arrow. I wasn't using those armor spells though. They would have helped a lot.
The spell you need differs from one game to another. It can be flame atronach, firebolt, magelight, fear, or healing hands. Possibly more.
Mine was Flame Atronach. I said I didn't have it, and she kindly sold it to me for 2-300 gold. Have to say it was well worth it at the lower levels, that thing saved my ### more times than not.

I cast it on her and it says she's too high of a level to be affected by my fear spell. I'm a total non-magic user -- just need the key from the first mage college quest to finish the Gauldur quest -- so if I need to level up my fear spell or something, that's gonna be tricky.I also read online that there's supposed to be a shout option to use to get into the college, but I never got that opportunity either.'Matthias said:
If you go far enough along in the greybeard quest then you can get into the college by just being dragonborn. She will ask you to demonstrate a shout.
I think you are supposed to cast it on the seal on the ground, not the bouncer.
correct. There is a seal just behind her. Aim at it and then you get in

Yes, according to the wiki, the spell gets cast on the seal on the ground, unless it is Healing Hands as that one she tells you to cast on her directly.

I'm guessing it depends on your level.
IIRC she asks you what kind of magic interests you and your answers are driven by having a minimal level in each discipline. The spell you cast is likely tied to the answer you give.

I've got about 100 hours in. There have been at least 4 or 5 storylines so far that are very original and would probably make great standalone movies, even in another setting. At 100 hours I'm a little bored at it, especially when what I've accomplished with sheer time has now been cracked by guys who have found glitches and exploits and get the same stats in 2% of the time. It's simply head and shoulders above anything else released in the past few years that I've played anything. Its not a "hard" game, there are parts that are extremely challenging but 90% of the time you are wandering or crushing what is in your path. But it is totally engaging and anyone that picks it up will play it like a crackpipe, guaranteed.If you are looking just for something to challenge you, pick up Dark Souls instead.
The answer might play a role, but there is still some random chance involved. I saved before talking to her, and kept reloading saves and talking to her again until she asked for firebolt or summon fire atronach as the spell, so I could get it for 30 gold rather than full price as those were the only ones she was asking for I knew I'd use a lot. I kept choosing the same dialogue options, but the spells she asked for varied across reloaded saves.'Matthias said:

I play 3rd person 98% of the time but prefer FPS games usually. Strange maybe, but as someone else said, it's much easier to see everything in 3rd person. Much easier to shoot bow and pick up stuff in first person.
The only time I am in third person is when I get heavy handed in battle and click R3 by accident. I just can't get in to the whole 3rd person perspective, though it works well in other games for me like Demon's Souls. I played Oblvion in 1st person the whole way through also.
I'm going to have to do the latter to get a better perspective on the views...
Same here. Enough people have said the same thing that there must be some merit to the opinion. It's just something I haven't done and am not used too. It may just take some time for me to adapt.

I've found that third person works far better outside while I stick to first person inside. When you have multiple attackers using third person decreases your accuracy but also greatly increases your ability to gauge terrain and escape.Knowing when to use what has greatly increased my enjoyment of the game.
Now that I am thinking about it, the game will auto switch you into 3rd person when you are riding a horse so maybe the creators kind of intended that you use that outside. Hmmmmm

Perhaps, but shooting jedi lighting from your finger tips looks uber-cool from the 1st person perspective.
Do those of you that use 3rd person outside do anything with the zoom (like zooming out a bit)? Or do you just leave it at the default view when you pop in to that mode?
And lockpicks - didn't realize how many I purchased with my first character.
