Is it a no-brainer to bring along lydia?
I never did. I've used a companion for two dungeons. I prefer sneaking and sniping and blazing than running after a companion who rushes in the first time they sniff someone.
I'm just the opposite. Companions early on for wandering in the wild, but the dungeons are all mine.

Still haven't stumbled upon this one yet. You are talking enchantments, correct?
Frost is an enchantment, paralysis is a potion.
Oh,Paralysis is available on the enchantment menu as well, but I've got 150 hours of gameplay in and still haven't found a weapon I could disenchant to learn it.

I found one, will report when I get home from work to find the correct name for it.

I just now finished making my character. Details...wow

So I ran into the Keep at the beginning with the closest guy...am I stuck being an imperial now or can I still be a stormcloak?

You can enchant paralysis too. I have a paralyzing dagger that I use if anybody gets too close.

I got to the end of a very long Dwemer dungeon (normally I hate those but this one actually was kind of fun for the puzzlesque path to the boss) but because of a "known" bug I had to backtrack all the way to the beginning in order to exit. The odd thing is - some of the dwemer spiders and rollerball type guys had already respawned (and fairly loaded with filled soul gems for some reason). The falmer, bugs, and bandits didn't - their were bodies everywhere, but the machines kept popping up.

So I wonder if dwemer machines have a different spawn rate than living enemies?

I don't remember the specifics, but I don't recall having any problem exiting this dungeon. I remember it being long, but the exit was off to the side shortly before the final boss, right?(I know that some of the bugs in this game are kind of random -- not doubting your experience).

It doesn't matter. Both groups suck. Your ultimate destiny as Dovakiin should be to save them from dying via one fate and then kill them all yourself.
I sided with the Stormcloaks on the grounds that the Empire tried to behead me, but I've regretted that decision for a while now. It seriously says something about how loathesome the Nords are that I've spent real time in the real world rethinking a decision I made in a video game over saving their racist asses. I really should have helped the Empire regulate.

All I know is that I did this fairly recently, so I'm going to guess I was 50+. I sailed through it, but it was fairly long. Then again, every Dwemer ruin I've been in has been long.

Yes. Though if you were a dumb### like me and forgot you had Lydia on a "Wait here" order and had to go back through to get her, you couldn't go back in through that nice short path. I had to walk all the way through again. And I will add, not a single enemy had respawned, including anything Dwarven. So those enemies respawning that quickly must have been a bug.

Question for you stealthy bow sniper types. What else are you putting perks in to? I have put all mine in to archery, sneak, blacksmith and enchanting. I only have put one in to single handed weapons, block and light armor. I did these early when I really wasn't sure where I was going to go. I note that when backed in to a corner, I'm not nearly as effective a fighter as I should be. Other than sneak and archery, where are you putting your perks? Destruction? Single handed to dual weild daggers? Other?

Level 17 sneaker/sniper/destruction type... playing through naturally, but...

Where do you get the soul capturing spell? I've got a bazillion gems and have destroyed some items to learn the enchantment - but haven't come across the spell that I recall.

Lydia = useless right now. Gets killed in 10 seconds every time. Is that b/c I haven't beefed up her armor/weapons etc?

Also, are Falmer supposed to be so tough? In a Dwemer dungeon outside Markar and ended up sneaking around sniping them trying to draw them off one at a time. 3 or 4 of them at once kicked my ### (though sneaking/sniping sure was fun).

So far I sneak a lot, I have a bow, and I dual cast the basic fire spell pretty much anytime anyone gets close enough....not sure what to do with perks though. I have used two so far, both in destruction. The first perk and then one that cuts my spell cost in half.

I need to figure out if I am going to start getting hit by stuff and need light armor or if I should keep wearing robes.

Yeah, the playthrough I'm now definitely has some weird bugs (the missing treasure map chests, the invisible arrows, the half height thing, and then this place: Raldbthar, an extension of a DB quest)This dungeon ends with several jammed cogs that you have to unjam (remove a bone or dwemer scrap) but "sometimes" the jamming piece doesn't spawn according to the wiki (I tried for an hour before resorting to the wiki because it's basically spoiler central) so you can't unjam the gears and lower the last bridge. You have to backtrack. At one location you actually change rooms (get the hint screen) and after that the respawned dwemer bots were there, even though I'd never left or slept.

Also, are Falmer supposed to be so tough?
Part of it your level and part of it is HOW you level up. My first game I encountered tough falmer around level 17 as well, but in that game I was going to town on anything I learned (lots of smithing, enchanting, alchemy, speech . . . but not much combat) and then going out into the wild and getting my ### handed to me.This game I've been more careful not to do too much noncombat stuff per level. Whenever I did accidentally level up, I trained a few notches of one-handed or archery just to make sure they kept up. Now in mid-twenties falmer are between easy and managable.

Crap. I really liked the Stormcloak conversation you hear in Riftin (and disliked the whole beheading thing).I really wish they had started the game differently, like you were about to be killed by bandits, and got interrupted by the dragon sighting.I'll eventually join each side but I guess I'll stay neutral this game.

I ended up finally having a mace with soul trap enchantment show up at the blacksmith shop in Whiterun. After I bought it, I found one more later as random loot. But that's been it, and I am level 40 now. So, just keep checking the inventory at the various blacksmith shops until you get lucky and one shows up.
Lydia = useless right now. Gets killed in 10 seconds every time. Is that b/c I haven't beefed up her armor/weapons etc?
Most likely. As a stealth character, I wear only light armor. Any good heavy armor I found, I gave to her. Any kick-### two handed weapons, I give to her. I would also take her stuff and upgrade it any time I could. I also made/enchanted rings and necklaces that improve two handed, add health, etc and gave them too her. Basically, I do for her what I would do for myself, and she's pretty tough now.

This was my plan for a backup starting out, Destruction. But I didn't care for it and sort of dropped it. I prefer shield/one handed, but just can't seem to bring myself to put the perks in to it that I need too. As I said, I enjoy the blacksmithing and enchanting, so I side tracked myself and that's where I am now. I guess it is the bright side of this game, you can do what you want, even though it may make some aspects of the game tougher. You can enchant armor to do the same things that the robes are, if you take enchanting paths. So maybe that's what you should target. Because there are definitely ways to enchant and wear armor as a magic user. It's been talked about quite a bit the last few pages.

That's where I have put mine as well, I am thinking I might put some into Speech so I can sell my stuff for a better price and invest in a shop so they have more money so I can sell more than one dagger at a time.

IIRC Lydia is only ~Lvl20 character so as you get into higher levels you need to upgrade her armor or drop her and pickup a higher lvl character. I dumped her and married Mjoll, she's a serious bad ###. Doesn't jump in front of me nearly as often as Lydia did and is way tougher in combat.

Mjoll is awesome. There are tons of times where I can't even get a shot off on someone before she's killed them. And she's tough too. I've accidentally hit her with arrows or magic quite a few times and it barely hurt her. Unlike Lydia who I took out with one accidentalt arrow. She also is pumped to carry my stuff, no sarcasm at all!The only negative is that Mjoll likes to talk. A LOT. Yeah, that's just amazing that your mom taught you to fight like that, now go make me a sammich!

i used a storm atroch(sp) and it killed him within a minuteI did that after trying to fight him and dying 10 times :hot:
Yeah, I did the same thing the very first time I fought him. I didn't realize it would kill him that quickly. I think he was dead in 10 seconds. I didn't even get to get a shot off with my bow. And yeah, his mask is awesome, especially earlier in the game.

I love the absurdity of the bigger picture sometimes. Storekeeper : That will be 10 gold for this dagger. You: Perhaps this will change your mind on the price! /mask /ciceroclothes /amueltStorekeeper: Oh my, a little fruitcup jester wearing a giant ugly stone mask with horns? Why yes, that does change things. yes, this dagger is only 5 gold for you, my good friend Clowny Stonehorns!!

for those who have finished the main storyline, how much do I have left?

Have the elder scroll transcribed in that cube for nutjob IceCave guy, now I'm collecting the 5 blood types for him. I haven't gone back to talk to the timscrochkitt dragon since finding the scroll, I still need to do that.
That's not the main quest, but probably the best one in the game to complete.Damn, you are not kidding. just took the bonus. :pickle:

Ran into a nasty bug involving Morvunskar and Misty Grove.

If you go back into Morvunskar later and try to get to the chest underneath the stair, it will auto-teleport you to Misty Grove. And there's no way to get out except to re-load a previous save.

I started my latest character (barbarian orc) off siding with the Stormcloaks, mainly because I thought the White Treaty was BS and every Thailmor I've encountered has been a snobby !@#$.But I'm halfway through the Stormclock's questline and I'm beginning to realize that these guys are a bunch of racist fundamentalists.

What now? I stopped doing missions for them and joined the Companions. I hate leaving the Civil War unresolved, but like Matt said, both sides suck.

Also, I've made Lydia into a real bad### by decking her out in ebony armor with a dadric shield and sword - all legendary. She's awesome.

only level 17. Guess I shouldve waited. Took me almost 2.5 hours  . There was one part that took me an hour.

Question: Do enemies respawn in dungeons? Reason Im asking is I had no capcity to carry any of the metal in that dungeon and wouldnt mind going back.
Think they do. Maybe after 10 days or 30 days of the player not visiting? Something like that.
I would guess so long as it says "Cleared," you are ok? Just a guess though. Personally, I didn't pick up any of the metal. I just had someone tell me you can melt it down to make ingots? If so, maybe it is worth it. But at the time, looking at the value versus the weight, I just didn't think it was worth the bother. Now I have enough Dwarven Ingots and no use for them (I have no dwarven weapons or armor that I use) that it really isn't worth it to me.
Regarding the dwarven metal:
I could be wrong, but out of all the types I've found, only six or so can be melted down to ingots. The ones that have "bent", "small plate" and "large plate" in the names are light and can be carried easily. They're the only ones I grab. If they don't have those descriptors in the name, they're not worth picking up, imo.

as far as melting, you're right. But....There's another side quest (at the mages college, maybe?) where a guy wants 10 dwarven cogs. Also, save the Centurion Dynamo Cores for the Atronach Forge in the Midden (I just learned this a couple days ago -- luckily I'm a pack rat and had been stashing them away anyway)

One thing to remember with this is that unless you buy a lot of training sessions, you're going to run out of uses for your money pretty quickly. I just bought the house in Solitude because I had money I didn't know what to do with, but I still use the house in Whiterun as my base of operations. And I still have 40,000 gold left over to just do  with.I do have mental dissonance, though. I'll check every urn for treasure, pulling out 8-12 gold apiece. And I'll pick up loose, individual gold pieces lying around. But I'll go to a store and spend 500-800 gold on potions and not take the 10 seconds to put on my gear to get better prices. So either I don't like using coupons or am just an idiot. Probably the second.
:lmao: You just described exactly what I do.

I did manage to tear myself away from the Whiterun house though. I maxed out the houses in Solitude and Windhelm, and I'm using the Windhelm place as my home base now.

A collection of my most recent "pointless" thoughts, ideas and accomplishments.

Houses - I still only have the one in Whiterun. I figure if I buy more, what will I do with it? I don't want to start spreading out my inventory between different towns. I may, however, buy a few more just because, as someone said, I have money and have to spend it on something!

Blacksmithing - Hit 100 today and got my Dragon perk. You indeed cannot keep going "right" and get Deadric. As someone else had already said, you have to kill another four perks to get there if you want. I don't. I did make a full set of light Dragon armor though, and enchanted it with Archery and Stamina bonuses. I mean, I am Dragonborn. HTF can you wear anything else????

Glass Bow of Soul Trap - Boy, went from having to many daggers and not enough soul gems, to having more soul gems than daggers to enchant. Temporary issue though. I am finding it hard to purchase to many empty soul gems (talking petty and lesser here). I want to stockpile them so I can keep working on my enchanting, but most mage shops only carry two or three of each. Given that I can fill 20 in a short session walking around outside, I can see this being a LIMFAC on my enchanting progress.

Speaking of soul gems, I have Azura's Star, grands, greats, commons. Yet every time I pop a mage or even a bandit, it says I don't have a large enough soul gem to capture the soul. WTF, does any human take a Black or something? I find it interesting I can capture a Giant's soul. But a bandit? No way, his soul is to big!

Yes. Any humanoid soul can only be captured with a black soul gem (or the black version of Azura's Star -- which is why you definitely want to go that route in the quest where you get it).

I've resigned myself to the fact that I will never ever be able to remember scrolls in the heat of battle - no mater how cool they sound.

Finally found the transmute spell - cha CHING!

Good to know about the blacksmithing - guess I'll right side for the weapons, don't really need to worry about armor.

Question: what is a grain mill supposed to do? In the windmills I "activate" them and on the farms I push them around in circles, but nothing else happens

Go to the church and set things up, but every time I try to enter the church for the wedding...gd Lydia is there, on the ground, dead as ####. Everyone is all pissed off at me "oh, what did you do!!"

This is a known glitch. I think I read somewhere you can drag her away from the door but leave her in the building, reschedule the wedding and get past it that way.
