General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (2 Viewers)

Im level 4 and have 4 perks. I'm thinking of using them on the one-handed swing (I'm a Redguard) and I just wanted to confirm something before I did it anyway. The very first slot in the perk constellation says something to the effect of "adds 20% to strikes" then says 0/5. My question would be, do I not get this perk until I put 5 perks in that slot?
Redguard :hifive:Think I should have went Nord as I read Redguard are the ####### of Combat characaters.... We shall see.I know I'm a noob and way behind but I think I prefer 3rd person over 1st. I'm not very far still at the beginning. So far so good as far as liking it. IT definitely looks pretty freaking sweet on my PC. :excited:

So I wish I knew about Firebolt & Lighting Bolt when I got to level 40 of Destruction. Just ran through 2 dungeons in a breeze. Those spells kick ###. Also beat 2 Giants and they both died in the same spot. Wish I couldve took a picture. I felt like a bad ###.

Also, Unrelenting Force with all 3 words is ####### amazing. I blew a Giant  and he rolled down a hill like a snowball.

Speaking of Giants, one launched me into the air so high I lost my head. Seriously. After the game reloaded I have no head. You look into the hood and theres nothing but emptiness. If I take off my archmage robes or Morokei my head reappears but when I have both on Im Mr Invisible. It never fixed even after numerous load screens, fast travels, and deaths. Im hoping it fixes after I turn the game back on today.

If I just dump all my stuff on the floor of the house in Whiterun, it'll be there when I get back, right? And what if I put it in the chest inside my home? I don't want to carry all these damn dragon bones and scales anymore, but I don't want to lose them either.
Chests, dressers, end stands, I use them all. I like to keep my stuff organized, so what I did was:Chest in alchemy room - Weapons and anything that can be used to upgrade weapons (ingots, leather strips, scales, bones, etc)Chest in bedroom - Armor (hey, that's where you clothes should be, in the bedroom)End stand to the left of the bed - JewelsEnd stand to the right of the bed - Books and scrolls, to include notesCupboard downstairs nearest the fire - Ingredients and extra potionsDresser at top of the stairs - Nothing as I didn't see it until after I organizedSo, in other words, don't think you can only use chests. There is a ton of storage in your home that will allow you to keep your crap organized. It may not seem like a big deal early on, but it can be a real time saver later.
In Whiterun house, there's an Apothecary's Satchel that is on the Alchemy Station that makes it super convenient to store the ingredients right there for easy access.

If you drop your mask, pick it up, and put it back on your head will come back
oh thanks. I was starting to like having no head. Put the fear of God into some people.

On the PC you can hit the ~ and then type in showracemenu then enter which will let you change anything you want about your character including race. Just save before you do it just in case, it has been reported that sometimes perks might change.

Me either. Man, wish I would have known that when I was doing alchemy stuff. Admittedly, I have so many dang potions now that I haven't touched the alchemy table in days. I just don't need to sell potions for cash anymore.

Here's a tip that most of you likely know, but I totally missed it until my son pointed it out to me. When you enchant a weapon, you can change the name. For the PS3, the menu for this is at the bottom of the screen when you are enchanting items. It makes it WAY easier to know what is what in your FAVORITE menu when your weapons have useful names like Glass Dagger of Soul Trap or whatever, rather than just seeing three Glass Daggers in the list and wondering which is which.

Yep, got a 2H Daedric Sword w/ Absorb Health that I called Leechblade  ETA: I've named all of my swords/bows so far... I never do it with armor/jewelry :nerd:

I've actually started to "remake" items, especially jewelry and whatnot, just so I could name it. I have had to reload on occasion simply because I accidently sold off a necklace I had imbued with archery or whatever when I meant to sell off loot I had picked up in a dungeon crawl. I really dislike the fact that you just can't change the name of a created item at any time. Seems sort of weak that you can only do it during the enchantment process.

That's actually a glitch from wearing the arch mage robes and the Morokei mask at the same time.

No glitch on xbox for me. I rocked that combo for awhile.

When worn with the Morokei (Mask) (or any of the Dragon Priest Masks) the player's head disappears. This seems to be spotty, as no problem is seen for some players. Saving and then reloading with the mask on appears to fix this glitch. (FIX: It appears that Dragon Priest Masks make the players face invisible if they die while wearing a mask and the Archmage's Robes. To fix this, go into your inventory and drop the robes. Then pick them back up and put them on.)

Just did this by accident, thought I was in the chest menu but wasn't, :hot: me off to see all the crap I just looted from a dungeon spray all over the room, almost just left it.

As I said earlier, when this happened to me, I just reloaded the auto save from when I walked in the door to the house. It was quicker than trying to pick everything up.

So apparently to level skills for free you just talk to the trainers and then pickpocket them later, or while they are sleeping? lol. There do seem to be lots of exploits in this game.

The more money it is the harder it is to pickpocket. I haven't had any success trying to pickpocket money back from trainers. The biggest exploit for me was that Farendal guy in Riverwood. As long as you have like 500 gp you can get trained up to lvl 50 in archery at no cost. Just make him your follower, train through him, then initiate the trading dialog and take all the money back. Rinse/Repeat.

This is not as easy as it seems, unless I was doing it wrong. But they always catch you, you end up having to fight the village and run for your life, and when the guards confront you the money disappears for me (or maybe it disappears when the victim catches you, not sure, but its not there even if you escape alive). anyone have success doing this?

I name everything with actor or character names, and in all caps so it stands out. It's easier for my whacked out brain to organize.

Yeah they fixed this. The original glitch was you could ask them to join you and then just loot their inventory without even having to pickpocket. Can't do that anymore.

I think they patched this. Can't pickpocket higher coin amounts anymore. So it will work at earlier levels but once you are paying $1500+ or something I don't think you can pickpocket the $$ back. At least that's my experience.

Any smithing tips?

Right now, I'm level 4 and just sharpened my Steel Sword and now it says (fine) next to it....is there anyway to get the weapon above fine?

Also, anyone else a sucessful Redguard?

I can now Shout too....do you use that in Battle?

Leveling smithing, perks, equipment that give you % smithing help with the amount you can improve your weapon by.

Race doesn't matter much. I had a Redguard Thief/Assassin that was around lvl 40 when I scrapped her. She was killing most things with one shot from her Deadric bow.

The nice thing about exploits, if they ruin the game for you (and they likely will), you aren't required to, well, exploit them.

By iron ingots and leather strips and make iron daggers to quickly build your smithing, if that's the way you want to go. Each time you take a perk in smithing, you can upgrade items again, making them even better. Picking the perk for the weapon type (Glass, Dwarven, etc) will let you improve it even more. Finally, if you want to be able to improve enchanted weapons, you must select that perk. And you likely will want to do so if you are going the smithing route.Shouts? Yes, I use them quite a bit, though they can quite easily be forgotten in the heat of battle. There have been quite a few posts on the usefullness of various shouts throughout this thread. You may want to use the search function to find them all. Or post a question about a specific shout if you have one.

Interesting to learn who you can't kill in this game. I'm officially neutral, but I do kill a lot of Stormcloaks. Just cleared a camp but the captain would only get knocked out. Must be a quest character...

If you do not have Iron Ingots readily accessible, but you have alot of leather; you can make Leather Bracers on the cheap (I think its just Leather [1] and Leather Strips [2]) and you can level up quick that way too

So it's tough to be a pillaging evil ### hole?

of course. It does seem like several already walk a thin line. It seems smithing seems pretty damn overpowered imo.
