General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (1 Viewer)

Dunno, I haven't gotten that far yet. But as an archer (primarily), I would probably opt for soul trap.
That's already on a bow itself. I have a damage bow and a soul trap bow.
Then just toss on shock, frost or fire and up the damage. My bow only does 187 damage and I pretty much one shot kill everything. Some take 2, but not many. Alduin only took about 7 or 8 shots. So I'm not sure you really need to concentrate and making your bow damage that much higher.
I think he was talking about adding dual enchantments to bracers, ring, necklace and helm... I think those are the only 4 items you can enchant with +archery% right?
Correct on the part of my thinking. Talking about things under Apparel, not the weapon itself. I have four items currently enchanted with archery plus ups. I'll want to add something to those four. It can't be stamina or health, those go on the other two pieces. So I figure it will be protection from something, or sneak, which I don't know how much benefit it would provide given I am at 100% already. Odds are, fire and frost protection is what I will go with, for dragon fighting as I mentioned before. The armor and boots, I have stamina on. Those I'll likely just add health plus ups.

Oh, ENCHANTING question. I was wondering about this as I close in on 100% and the ability to add the perk aloowing a 2nd enchantment. Can you add the SAME enchantment twice and, if so, does it stack? Reason I am asking, I make amulets and rings (along with bracers and I believe helmets) that augment my archery. So, I was thinking, can I make gauntlets and enchant them with say 30% to archery and then, as a 2nd enchantment, add another 30% to archery for a total of 60%?
They do not stack, unfortunately.
Curses. Foiled again. So now the question is, what to add to things enchanted with archery? I guess flame and frost resistance to make it a total dragon hunting ensemble. Or perhaps some sneaking, though I'm not sure there's much point after 100%. I can pretty much follow a guard around town, have them turn around and face me, and still remain hidden. Then again, dragons always see me after the first shot. Maybe I can remain hidden a bit more from them? Decisions, decisions.
If it were me as an archer?Helmet: Fortify Archery + 1 of Waterbreathing, Lockpicking or Fortify Magicka or Magicka RegenNecklace: Fortify Archery + Fortify HealthBracers: Fortify Archery + 1 of Fortify your armor type, weapon type, carry weight, sneak or magickaRing: Fortify Archery + Fortify HealthChest: Fortify Health + ... if you have stamina problems, Fortify Stamina, otherwise Fortify whatever type of armor you wear.Boots: Two of (1-handed, 2-handed, sneak, muffle, fortify carry weight)If you notice, I think Fortify Health is the way to go whenever it is available. 60 more points of health per item you can stick it on makes a very big difference in combat. If you use a shield you can put it on chest, ring, necklace and shield and have over 240 more points of health, at 100 enchanting and using potions to further up it.

Went the other route with mine. I have added resist Fire/Frost/Shock to 3 different necklace and ring in addition to Fortify Archery. Let's me get a 76% resistance to whatever magic I come across. I can literally plunk away at a dragon while they are roasting/freezing me with very little damage to my health. Same with any mages I come across. I need to craft some new dragonscale since I now can dual enchant and add more than just fortify health and sneak.

That's the approach I was thinking about. I feel like my offensive levels are strong enough to handle most enemies, particularly if they can't really hurt me.

I wouldn't consider those as regular gear though. I would craft those to carry with me and only switch into them when I'm going to face a foe they are both effective against, and that I could use a hand in fighting.

Hmmm, I could never carry multiple sets of armor at once. You must be a light armor guy Greg?

For me it's pretty regular gear though. Most dungeon crawls I am doing have the dragur or forsworn or whatever is in there using frostbolts or whatever magic it is that puts huge ice spikes into your body.

I wouldn't carry multiple armor sets, no. But I would carry multiple sets of ring+necklace that combined are one stone each. You could have a pair that are Resist Fire + Resist Magic that would shut down most fire attacks. And a pair for Frost, and one for Shock. Also a pair for fortify lockpicking and pickpocket (or sneak since pickpocket bonuses are buggy and can actually reduce your chance if you already have a high skill level). But walking around with Resist Frost all the time just wastes bonus spots since 90% of your opponents won't have a frost attack. So walk around with Fortify Health and something that ups your main attack damage (Archery, 1 handed, 2 handed or Destruction), that will be useful in every encounter you have. And just swap over to the Resist element ones when you face an actual threat who uses that type of damage. You could throw in boots if you want, especially if you get non-armor shoes and it wouldn't be much weight. I don't know that there is an opponent in the game though that just the ring and necklace wouldn't be enough to get you by.

That's funny since I seem to encounter someone with frost magic almost everytime I am dungeon, cave, ruin crawling.

I think the perk system has really given people the interest to do replays since you can't really master everything with one go of it.
No doubt. I am having a hell of a time trying to turn Big Gay Orc into a mage. It would have been easier if he started off as a One-Handed/Shield Blocking warrior because then I could just forgo the shield and use magic. But no. He's a Two-Handed lunatic, so if I use magic, I turn a level 35 guy into an absolute weakling and get owned by everything out there. I'm thinking of giving up and playing a straight mage.
Big Gay Mage down?
Redundant.

Great, so when you go into a dungeon, cave or ruin and you see them using Frost, toss it on. While you're traveling and more likely to fight cave bears, bandits and the like, use something that works on everyone, is what I'm saying. Most of the time I wouldn't bother tossing it on in the dungeon either, just because they won't do enough damage to even get through the extra 120 HP I'm sporting from the ring and necklace before I waste them. It would be a particularly tough opponent (dragon priest, etc) that I'd make the switch for.

I'm such a goob. I didn't even realize you could enchant a shield! I don't think I've ever seen it appear when I am in the menu to select the item to enchant. What's up with that? Thanks for the ideas. Only thing I don't care for is the helmet. I never go underwater. My lockpick is already at 100% and I have the Skeleton Key. And I don't use magic at all, other than a rare heal spell. So I'd have to look for something to sub in there.

Level 40, here's what I accomplished so far, need some help on maybe an Xbox issue with finishing two quests:

I know I still have alot to do as I am just finishing the dark brotherhood, I think. But I can't seem to Transcribe the Lexicon and meet Karliah at the Stone. all I see is the arrow where she should be. I have tried waiting for countless hours and nothing.

I also can't get to the "Break out of the mine" level as the dude in the shrine is dead, and I have triend eveything to get a guard to open the level. Went to jail, but that doesn't seem to open that level up either.

Helmet: Fortify Archery + 1 of Waterbreathing, Lockpicking or Fortify Magicka or Magicka Regen

Necklace: Fortify Archery + Fortify Health

Chest: Fortify Health + ... if you have stamina problems, Fortify Stamina, otherwise Fortify whatever type of armor you wear.

Boots: Two of (1-handed, 2-handed, sneak, muffle, fortify carry weight)

Yeah, a few of the apparel types there just aren't many good choices. For a nice table of what you can enchant on what types, here's a good page: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Enchanting_EffectsI just mention shield because it's one of the types you can put fortify health on. But unless you go 1-handed and a shield, you wouldn't have it equipped so not much use. I suppose you could go mage casting 1 handed and a shield, but then you lose the bonus from the stagger perk for dual casting, which is a huge loss as a mage.

Ok question about Daedra, I'm pretty far along in the main quest and have done a ton but I haven't come across a single Daedra. Where are these ####ers?

Very frustrating session. Tracked a blood dragon up to a mountain, got him to half health so he was grounded, and he disappeared from view and I couldn't find him anywhere.

Then I made my way to a cave to kill the Al'Khir leader who is after the Whiterun hottie, and the game froze up on me not once, but twice inside the cave.

The only ones I can recall are in the blackstar you get put into and in another quest related location.(drawing a blank)You looking for hearts specifically?

I just bought the house in Whiterun.... why does it look like #### inside? How do I improve that and boy?

Yeah, this isn't Oblivion, where the main plot was opposing a Daedra invasion. There just aren't many Daedra in Skyrim.I did find a fire atronach fighting a couple of horkers outside of Windhelm by the river. It was kind of odd, no clue why there would have been one there.

Yes I check every apothicary never have any. The only one I can find anywhere is the one in the Companions area but I get tired of waiting for it to respawn.

There was one in my apothicary when I bought my alchemy set...don't recall that in my previous two characters.
the vampire girl in the dark brotherhood has two for sale

Ethnir in the Mages College has 2 you can purchase. They refill every 2 days. I learned that when I was building my daedric armor, shield, gauntlets, boots and bow. They are badass.

So, I managed to get Faendal killed (I thought I had my fast run shout equipped and hit a whiterun guard in the face with unrelenting force. They killed Faendal before I could sheath my weapon). I took his house key from the body. Am I able to use his house as a secondary house now?

Daedra Hearts... if you aren't going to make Daedric stuff (I dodn't go up that side of the black smithing tree, nor am I going too), is there any use for these things? I haven't collected but one or two. Just wondering if I should be worried about trying to collect a few more or not.

So I finally decided to do this side mission where I have to find this guys sword from White Run. I'm being sent to White River Watch (I THINK)....I enter the cave and there's a long hallway type of area and 2 big ### trolls in what looks to be a wooded area. Long story short, these trolls (my first encounter with them) are owning me! I can't get out of this hallway before being beaten to death by them! Anyway, after hours of thsi I decided to Google this and see if there was any tips but I can't find anything for this area or this quest. This quest is only showing me some tower area and bridge that I alrady did. Anyone here know what area/ quest I'm talking about?

I have a key I got from a dead body in Winterhold. Poor guy got caught in the corssfire when all those magic ball thingies attacked the town during the Mage College quest line. Unfortunately, his house is somewhere other than Winterhold I guess, and I never bothered to look for it. Always wondered if it would serve as a secondary home also?

No. not for storing stuff, anyhow. it just means nobody will interrupt you while you're there. But the containers will still reset.
Well that seems fairly useless then. Guess I won't worry about tracking the house down.Speaking of houses, mine is a bit crowded. I dismissed Lydia, and now she is sitting at my bedroom table and won't go away. I moved Mjoll there, and she brought her little ##### sidekick with her. I feel like the guy in the "unexpected house guests" thread. I can't even decorate the house with cool stuff I find because every time I come home, it's all been knocked all over the place by these idiots.

Trolls aren't a big fan of fire.

:lmao: Going to :subscribe: to your "Drinking all your mead" updates.

So, I managed to get Faendal killed (I thought I had my fast run shout equipped and hit a whiterun guard in the face with unrelenting force. They killed Faendal before I could sheath my weapon). I took his house key from the body. Am I able to use his house as a secondary house now?
I have a key I got from a dead body in Winterhold. Poor guy got caught in the corssfire when all those magic ball thingies attacked the town during the Mage College quest line. First thing I did after marrying Mjoll was send her to the Whiterun house, then waited till about 2am in Riften and somehow Arien didn't make it through the night. Then I bought a house in Solitude and moved there to leave Lydia waiting in an empty room in an empty house forever.

Wait, you mean at night, the little dooshnozzle will go back to the house in Riften? NICE! I guess he'll get a little visit from the Dark Brotherhood wannabe. <==|=

He really gets in the way a lot in the game since he follows Mjoll everywhere. So he had a little accident  what's the harm there? As long as Mjoll doesn't see it happen no problems. The other option is to make sure he follows you into a dragon battle, he will die a very long and painful burning/freezing death then.

As long as you tell Mjoll that your moving and then have her wait wherever he will return to Riften. He just might have a little accident on the way home.

Not him, Lydia. Sure kill him first chance you get, I'm in. But I have grown fond of Lydia and it seems cold to leave her sitting all alone.

:missing: Arien

So last night I just decided to buy a horse in Riften and see how far across the map I could make it. Picked up a bunch of stuff along the way.

I did find a side quest to give me invisible potion, but will use that later when I want to do quests again.

I couldn't handle her being in the bedroom and I got so tired of her and her snide carry your burdens crap, and Mjoll is a significantly better fighter and companion. So she got the boot.

Actually, she got the house. You got divorced and didn't even realize it.

This is more of a question for all of the vets on here---When you first started out (like level 15) how broad did you distribute your perks? Or how broad should I be distributing them?

I have like:

7 on one-handed

2 Archery

2 Destruction

1 Restoration

1 Heavy Armor

1 Sneak

1 Smithing

TIA
