I got one or two early, when my bow was weak. At that point, I would rush in when a dragon landed, using my sword in my right hand and the flame spell in my left. So at least I did get to experience it once or twice. Just load up your sword and go fight a weak dragon like the one at Shearpoint or something. May take a few tries, but you'll get it sooner or later.
starting to realize you get cut scenes when you attack the dragon's head straight on, you can also stun the dragon with power hits to its head.

Faendal? He's one of the best followers you can get early on. Especially since he isn't annoying like Lydia.
No some random Hunter trying to catch a rabbit
Meh, hack away Mr. Gein, but they aren't worth much. They never have any gold and their weapons/armor is terrible.

Yes, I read that a shield bash will stun a dragon. Also that an Unrelenting Force shout will stun it and even stop a breath attack that is underway. I have yet to really try either as I tend to try and stay afar away from the front end of those things as I can. It's the one cut scene I don't need to be seeing. The one where you are in the dragon's mouth being flung around like a rag doll.

Did anyone collect all eight masks? I did a random Word of Power quest I got from the Greybeards and got my 4th one. That's likely as close as I'll get. Just wondering if there's any payoff remotely worth going and trying to find all these things.
I'm up to 7. I might try to find the last one today.
Found the last one. Payoff doesn't seem to be worth it.
Thanks. I had no plans to hunt down all eight, but I have been doing a lot of random Word of Power quests for Aernigar or whatever of the Greybeards. You come across then now and again if you do enough of those. Just wondered if it was worth the effort.

Yah. The last one was the only one that I specifically hunted down to find. All the others I found because I tried to get as many shouts as possible. So in that sense, it wasn't any extra effort. But the payoff is just pretty weak. The only 2 masks that I carry around are Morokei and Volsung. Both of those are pretty peachy keen.
Used Morekei for a good portion of the game. Was very valuable early on when I got it. But after awhile, the skill bonuses weren't as necessary and I wanted the matched set bonus on my armor, so I dumped it. Well, dumped it in to a chest anyways. Wish there was a display case for them like the bobblehead one in Fallout 3.

Oh, I mean one in my house where I could display them as I find them. :P If you have the wooden mask, can you visit that wall anytime? I remember finding it, but I think I just dropped it while in Labyrinthia. I understand it will be there when I go back, but I don't see me finding motiviation for that unless I had all eight.

Get laid tonight because that won't be happening for a while.
I started this Saturday mornign and after about 5 hours I had to peel myself away and do homework, then played for a few more hours later. I played Sunday morning for another 5 or so hours and had to stop for the same reason. I can't play again until Wednesday and it's eating me alive inside. I'm in big trouble.Anyway, went with an Imperial, love the two-handed swords. Was basically going with the flow of the game (I followed the Soldier at the beginning but it wasn't like I chose him on purpose...I was still adjusting.) until I got the golden claw quest and got wasted a few times by three bandits near the entrance. I realized I was still only on level two, so I just started wandering around aimlessly since I had bounties on me everywhere, killing wolves, exploring a random mine and so on. I'm only on level 5 and not choosing sides in the war or joining anything yet. Well, now I'll just pretend to work while I read this thread and fiend.

Dragons are kinda lame in this game. A dragon can directly face me, blow a full fire attack at me, and without me blocking or even moving my health barely drops. I dont have any fire resistance armor on and as a matter of fact I have archmage robes on. But get too close to a dragon and he'll snap me like a chihuahua and most of my health will drop.

Meanwhile, a bear or sabre cat sneaks up on me and kills me in two hits?

So I am trekking north on the way to Solitude for the first time. I am following a river. I come across a blood dragon, a bandits camp with like 7 bandits, and a fishermans house. I can't get past the dragon. He ate me once. Then I tried to lure him to the bandits but the bandits killed me as I was fighting the dragon. This is the hardest time I've had yet. I am gonna just try to sneak past it all tonight.

I love Skyrim, it's the most fun I've had playing a video game in years. But if there's one criticism, it would be that leveling is too easy. Reading your post actually made me envious because it's been a long time in the game since that kind of scenario presented itself. Even though I'm still not yet done the Companions Quest, most of the masks, none of the Thieves Guild, none of the Dark Brotherhood, none of the Mages, none of the Bards, and only partway through the Main Quest, I'm at a point where dragons can't do much to me. And it's not like I tried to level up or use quirks or glitches to become invincible. I've just been leveling up naturally and building better armor/enchantments as I get them. Yet, last night I was attacked by a Frost Dragon at the same time two mammoths and two giants were there, so I had to fend all five off at once, and won with ease. And again, it's not because I became some souped up juggernaut. I'm only a Level 45 and have Legendary Ebony Armor, Bow and the Otar mask (also Legendary). Powerful? Sure, but nowhere close to maxed out, yet a head on battle against a dragon and four other big foes was a non event.

If you're level 45 and haven't done any of the things you say you have, then you must have been just working on leveling up and not progressing the storyline.

Not intentionally. I was just going around exploring, taking on dungeons, caves, etc...without any quest goals. And I spent a TON of time in Markarth and Whiterun doing lots of radiant quests, before I realized that most were non critical. That's kind of my point. Other than using the awesome Alchemy Planner website that someone posted in this thread, I don't know of any other glitches or cheats I've used to level.Still an AWESOME game though, and full of surprises.

Have you seen many ancient dragons yet? Those are the tough ones, I've ran through Frost and Blood ones easily, but Ancients are smarter and their attacks are stronger. I started seeing them regularly when I took the main quest all the way to the point before the end. Now I just do my regular quests and doubles or those things pop up all the time.

No, no Ancient dragons yet. Other than when I was shooting arrows at Alduin and wondering WTF I wasn't hurting him, only to realize he was animating the dragon as part of the main quest and nothing more than a graphical storytelling piece at the time.

Once the Creation Kit is out I'm going to try to make a mod to redo the economy and leveling rates. Still thinking through details, but I can see slowing down Enchanting, Smithing and Pickpocket level rates by a ton. Perhaps as part of that drastically reduce the number of soul gems, ingots and ore you can buy from merchants. Probably reduce the number of magic items each merchant's respawn gives him. And reduce the price of self-enchanted weapons and self-made potions so they aren't like a money printing press anymore.Would also like to add some other mechanisms to the game where money would be a useful thing to have, though haven't come up with a lot of ideas there that I like. Would love to hear input from people on what things you think need fixing, and how you think would be good ways to go about it.

Maybe your spouse should take your money instead of giving you income, and use it to buy useless things for your house. Imagine coming home from some adventuring and having a hideous new dining room set that your wife just had to have.

I would reduce all the money rates that the player can get (found treasure, prices for items sold) by 80-90%. If money actually became scarce, then the thief skills would start having some value. It would also bump up the premium for making your own potions and finding good gear in the wild.
Without being specific I would do something with the healing spell...maybe (if possible) make it harder to achieve and/or make healing position much more expensive and harder to make.

I agree, fast healing spell plus potions make you pretty invincible, although lugging around potions does take away from how much loot you can carry back and sell.I'd give low level enemies the ability to heal or up their armor rating a bit? once you get enchanted two handed daedric weapons its almost a one hitter quitter on these guys. Maybe the leveling scale of the enemies needs to go up a tad after you turn level 25+, not sure.

Has anyone noticed NPCs drinking potions in Skyrim? In Oblivion I recall the NPCs would drink a healing potion if they were wounded. Especially in the Arena where all the opponents seemed to have at least one. Don't think I've noticed anyone doing so in Skyrim.

Ive seen NPCs use restoration spells, but not sure about potions. I did give my follower some to use but haven't checked if the quantities have changed. I think they use potions to attack you, sometimes I get poisoned, and when I kill them they have poison potions on them.

I'm sure I can find out some info in the Wiki on this, but for now I'm going to ask you guys...

When I level up and I'm on that zodiac perk screen, why can't I move something higher than 1/5? For example, I increase a perk from 0/5 to 1/5 and then I level up again I cannot move that same perk to 2/5. Does the entire first line of perks need to be at 1/5 before I can move anything to 2/5? I didn't think level mattered for the novice perks...

You have to have a certain level of proficiency in order to move it up, so 1 is fine for 1/5, but 2/5 might require 20, and so on.

Well as someone else mentioned if you are finding the game too easy you can turn it up a notch. Even in the middle of fight if you so desire. IIRC you default to adept level. There are two higher levels.

yep, most of those require skill level multiples of 20 to take the next x/5 perk.

I say I am going to do this but I always end up finding somewhere I "have" to put a perk.

I am still running with my original guy and I feel like I owe it to him to not make another one....does anyone else have this issue? I've been having the urge to start this sneaky, blacksmith, enchanting potion making archer...what to do, what to do...

Ancients and Elders are much tougher. Frost and Blood are mere annoyances. Ancients and Elders take a bit of time to take out now.

I have read that if you hit him with a shout, one of two of them, it will cause him to bail and stop with raising the dragon.

I haven't seen them drinking it, I am usually at a distance, but I have seen them heal themselves frequently. Typically it's the higher level NPCs Briarhearts, Hargravens, mid to arch level mages/necromancers, etc.

You have to have a certain level of proficiency in order to move it up, so 1 is fine for 1/5, but 2/5 might require 20, and so on.
yep, most of those require skill level multiples of 20 to take the next x/5 perk.
Can you stack the perk points then? If so, do you guys save every other one or when you level up you always increase something no matter what?
yep, I've stacked 4 and 5 perks before cashing them in before.
I always keep 1-2 extra just in case I level something I want to add it to, but wasn't paying attention before as to how close I was.

I'm sure I can find out some info in the Wiki on this, but for now I'm going to ask you guys...When I level up and I'm on that zodiac perk screen, why can't I move something higher than 1/5? For example, I increase a perk from 0/5 to 1/5 and then I level up again I cannot move that same perk to 2/5. Does the entire first line of perks need to be at 1/5 before I can move anything to 2/5? I say I am going to do this but I always end up finding somewhere I "have" to put a perk.
I decided where i was going to put all my points at the beginning of the game... sometimes I'd have quite a few stacked up waiting for me to level high enough to use them. :nerd:

I wasn't keeping perks at first, and I regret it because before I really thought through the dynamics of the leveling system, and that specializing was key, I was perking lots of stuff (e.g., one handed here, two handed there, sneak here, illusion there, etc...). Once I realized my gaffe, I've gone into a mode of hording them a bit, until I hit key levels where I can level some of the better options.

As for tweaks, not sure if you could even do it, but adding volume to items would make the game much more difficult and realistic. How many of us are toting around three suits of armor, four bows, fifty potions, six sets of dragon bones and 20-30 books? Maybe make it more of a 'hardcore' setting.

I'd like to see bad guys sneaking, sniping, pick pocketing and breaking and entering.

I'd like to have better sensory awareness. Right now when I'm out in the wild I get precious little feedback on what's going on around me. I hear wolves baying but cannot tell from what direction. (although I'm sure a better sound setup would help this). Maybe a yellow dot on the compass to indicate "I hear something in this direction."

I think the sneaky "eye" is overpowered. Unless something is running at me and I hear their breathing and footsteps, or a human says "hey, WTF?" I shouldn't know when I'm detected.

I'd like to remove the quest icon from the compass. Let me set a manual location, but I shouldn't be able to know where a person is at any given moment.

I'd like quests and dialogues to be more interactive. "Go get me this sword from this cave I marked on your map" quests suck. Give me more options when I speak to people. Don't have them give me the whole story.

Scale magic damage up or melee/archer damage back. Powerful mages are supposed to be able to make the earth shake.

Fix the stacking bonus that allows you to cast spells for free. The first item can grant 25% bonus, but the second should grant 1/2 that, and the third 1/2 of that and so on.

Make it so you can't chug five potions on the pause menu. "yeah, you're about to chop my head off, but wait just a second, please while I toss back a six pack of healing potions!"

I agree with the others about money... Maybe have the tax collector come by once a month wherever the player owns property?

IIRC that's how it was in Oblivion. Maybe it was Morrowind. 2 minor improvements I'd like to see:• the ability to categorize your potions or tag them so that you can find stuff you want quickly• the ability to create / tag entire "outfits" that include head, hands, body, and feet, along with jewelry. So you can have your "sneak" outfit selectable with one menu choice, your "tank" outfit available with a single menu choice, etc.

Yeah, inventory needs an overhaul.

In addition to the above, I'd like to see what I have in each equipment 'slot'. Sometimes I'll forget to re-equip and run around without a necklace or boots or something. One screen should show what I'm wearing.

I'm already hopelessly addicted to this game. If I finish with this, will I enjoy going back to the other ones like Oblivion or Morrowind, or is this one that much better that I'll be disappointed?

you would probably still enjoy Oblivion. I'd guess MW feels pretty dated at this point.

I'd go the other way. Morrowind has enough unique feel about it to be interesting as something different from Skyrim. Oblivion got so repetitious in the dungeons and Oblivion planes.
I enjoyed Oblivion it's what got me into the franchise.
