Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (4 Viewers)

Fair warning:

Hurricane Zeta is likely (but not certain) to cause a power outage in my area. Based on past experience, the power outage would likely start today about 12 noon - 3 pm Central Daylight Time. If it goes out, I expect a 12-24 hour outage because repair crews won't go out and work on poles until the storm has totally passed and wind speeds drop below 30 mph -- that won't be earlier than about 9 p.m. CDT.

Anyway. I'll attempt to post my status here via phone in the event of an outage.
Good luck. Stay safe.

I don't want to get too carried away with the skips this early, so we'll wait a bit for Eephus to surface or make up picks to be made. I'm mostly around this morning so if it really drags, I'll make my pick to keep things moving.

So I've set up Deep Tracks and Jam On playlists on Spotify. My suggestion was for each of us to set up a few and maintain them to make it easier.

With little knowledge of Chill or Soul Cycle music that leaves Elvis and Deep Cuts. My fav(and everyone else's) Elvis is gone so Deep Cut it is. So many to choose from in this category it was hard to decide. Going with this because he doesn't get much love in these drafts and this is a deep cut even in Detroit.

3.6 Bob Seager 2+2=?

Dominating performance in this year's MLB playoffs.

3.12 - Republica -Ready To Go  (SoulCycle)

A guilty pleasure for sure but the combination of power chords, sequenced drums, and a frenetic video with a singer in a little red dress still works for me.  The song is structured like a modern Pop song with one beat and a big drop in the middle.  Its soul is rather synthetic but it clips along at a solid 130 bpm so it's good for pedaling.

They played this for a few years when the Peterborough Petes came on the ice so it is etched into my soul.

I'll keep the soul cycling. This is a song that I actually heard for the first time in a spin exercize class, so it seems extremely fitting. Unfortunately, I came to learn that one of the main members of the group (who Wikipedia calls an American-British-Canadian girl group) committed suicide not long after the songs release.

3.14 - G.R.L. - Ugly Heart (SoulCycle)

"Ugly Heart" received general acclaim from contemporary music critics. A writer from Popjustice branded it a "really quite brilliant song about hot wankers" and gave it a 9 out of 10 rating. The writer believed the song was better than the group's debut and improved their chances of a successful career.[13] Jamieson Cox from Time described the song as "moonlit, guitar-oriented pop" and a "sneering kiss-off" with many "undeniable" features of a Dr. Luke production. He also praised the band members chemistry on the song.[14] Mike Wass from Idolator thought the track was an "irresistible anthem" that left him "hooked" after one listen. He particularly liked the "guitar-pop direction" because it differed from the more dominant charting electro-pop songs.[15] Perez Hilton described the song as infectious, great and awesome. He likened the beginning of "Ugly Heart" to a signature Jason Mraz track and praised the lead vocals.[16]

Homorazzi.com reporter Donovan Pagtakhan named it the group's best song to date and a "catchy pop track with a folk vibe",[17] while Maximum Pop! said the track "feels like a tune you'd pump in your car when riding with your girlfriends.[18] Brad Stern from MTV labeled it a "certifiable, Dr. Luke-produced smash" packed with "chant-along-friendly hooks".[19] Jason Lipshutz from Billboard quipped "the group uncovers the winning pop formula that previous single 'Vacation' failed to unlock."[6] Sugarscape.com's Carl Smith dubbed it an "insanely sassy single".[5] Igee Okafor writing for magazine The Source likened "Ugly Heart" to "up-tempo and high-energy" releases by Ke$ha. They described the ukulele as "infectious" and the vocals as "powerful and impeccable".[21] Billboard named the song #50 on their list of 100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time.[22]

Good song and took it in the jukebox draft as a one hit wonder. Have to take your word for it that it's good to bikersize to.

It's gotta be near the end of hurricane season as winter approaches.  What happens to the names after the Z's?  Do they go back to A?

RIP Billy Joe Shaver.  One of the greats.

I'm gonna live forever
I'm gonna cross that river
I'm gonna catch tomorrow now
You're gonna wanna hold me
Just like I always told you
You're gonna miss me when I'm gone
Nobody here will ever find me
But I always be around
Just like the songs I leave behind me
I'm gonna live forever now

I think they've gone through them twice already. Once with names and then the Greek alphabet. Maybe use Roman numerals?

There are 22 names for hurricanes each year.  (You try finding q and x names.)  Then they go through the Greek alphabet.  This is only the second time we've gotten to experience the joy of Zeta.  Hurricane season ends Nov 30.

Round 3.11  -  Queen  -  My Baby Does Me  -  Deep Tracks

From The Miracle.  One of the best things about Queen is the beautifully clean tracks they put on their channel.  Taylor and May take good care of us.

They've still got 18 more Greek letters to use - they go by Greek alphabetical order, and Zeta is only the 6th letter in the Greek alphabet. Next three are Eta, Theta, and Iota.

Brings back a lot of fraternity memories having to recite the Greek alphabet with a lit match.

Category: Soul Cycle

Artist: White Stripes

Song: Seven Nation Army

Not sure if the BPM is enough for cycling...maybe hills...if not I can re-pick, but this seems awfully jock jammy for enthusiasts of jockin' jamonits

He's up after you, but I think you can pick if you'd like. You're ahead of him, and have a bit of time decide. Really, it's up to you, i would guess.

I was contemplating going with this for Soul Cycle, but want to stick with the channel program.

Apologies for any spotlighting in case someone was going to draft it for another channel.

Who is up, and are we not doing an hour clock today after all?
Still doing a clock, but I basically asked to be skipped, in so many words. I was simultaneously OTC in the Television Draft, and I had to go outside the house and move some flyaway stuff out of harms way.
