What does deep track classic rock mean exactly? Stuff from "classic rock" bands that weren't singles or radio favorites?
I think so. Here is Sirius XM's description:What does deep track classic rock mean exactly? Stuff from "classic rock" bands that weren't singles or radio favorites?
Album cuts, forgotten gems and lesser played songs from some of Classic Rock’s most influential artists and essential albums with rare demos and live tracks. Curated shows from SiriusXM Hosts Jim Ladd, Earle Bailey, Meg Griffin, Dusty Street, Joe Elliott, Ron and Gail Bennington, Greg Roberson and Carol Miller. Rarities from Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Beatles, Eagles, Doobie Brothers, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jethro Tull, Little Feat, Fleetwood Mac, Santana and more.
Cool. That's definitely in my wheelhouse, not that I'm guaranteeing a pick from that channel.I think so. Here is Sirius XM's description:
Sure thing, k4. You're welcome to drop in any time or make suggestions via PM if you see a category that particularly moves the wheels. I hope everything goes well for you.@rockaction, my friend, I think I'm going to leave you back on your own here. Between work, moving, my own Beatles thread, and a bunch of other stuff, I'm just not mentally engaged in this one. Looking forward to continuing to read the thread and enjoy everyone's picks, but I have to sit this one out. :(
It may be the Imperial Stout I had after work but I really love this succinct, perfect distillation of the category.i had to look up the Soul Cycle channel. the subtitle on sirius site says music to energize your soul, which is confusing.
but then I went on to read the description and it's basically a channel to ride exercise bikes to, yeah?
Have to unpack this category or else I’m just going to pick something from The Big Chill soundtrack.Eephus said:Chill (downtempo/deep house)
Yes. It’s basically album cuts, not the singles from a record. What does deep track classic rock mean exactly? Stuff from "classic rock" bands that weren't singles or radio favorites?
Ha! rock and I seriously considered this one in our first two picks.2.10: Vince Guaraldi Trio - “Christmas Time Is Here” (Holly channel)
The tune takes on added significance this year with CBS no longer showing the Peanuts holiday classics on network (free) TV.
@Buffaloes
I was debating between this and one from the great dance scene, but went with the opener.Ha! rock and I seriously considered this one in our first two picks.
downtempo electronic music is what I'm thinkingHave to unpack this category or else I’m just going to pick something from The Big Chill soundtrack.
I left this in for @Steve Tasker then he ghosted us :(Have to unpack this category or else I’m just going to pick something from The Big Chill soundtrack.Eephus said:Chill (downtempo/deep house)

but then I went on to read the description and it's basically a channel to ride exercise bikes to, yeah? seems like it could be a fun category. are we required to post a positive affirmation cliche with our music choice if we choose that category?
Music to listen to a couple hours after the drugs peakeddowntempo electronic music is what I'm thinking
I was grooving to this until the voices came in around the 3 1/2 minute mark. I wasn't expecting that turn at all.
Sounds like it wasn’t a positive turn for you, but I like both parts to the song. Neither of the two vocalist are great but I’m used to it having been listening to them for a long while.I was grooving to this until the voices came in around the 3 1/2 minute mark. Be thankful he didn’t post the Disco Biscuits. They’re the ultimate in “Interesting when they’re not singing, horrifying when they are.”I was grooving to this until the voices came in around the 3 1/2 minute mark. I wasn't expecting that turn at all.
Shaky vocals are my gripe with a lot of Jam Band stuff I've heard. It's not a frontman-oriented genre which I guess is more democratic. Are there any Jam Bands fronted by a charismatic singer?Sounds like it wasn’t a positive turn for you, but I like both parts to the song. I guess the closest thing would be John Popper from Blues Travelar. He also plays harmonica but is mostly a front man - not sure where he ranks on charisma scale.Shaky vocals are my gripe with a lot of Jam Band stuff I've heard. If you call the Allman Brothers a jamband, them. The resurgence that began with Blues Traveler/Phish/Widespread Panic doesn't have a whole lot in that department aside from John Popper, as Dr. Octopus mentioned. I can't speak to any band that debuted after 2006-ish because I haven't been paying too much attention since then.Shaky vocals are my gripe with a lot of Jam Band stuff I've heard. It's not spotlighting anymore, but "Hook" was on an uncommunicated long list of songs that I briefly considered for the jam category before deciding that pre-90s was the way to go with the category without feeling all oogy inside from my punk rock roots. I think "Hook" is just Pachelbel's Canon in D played over and over and the lyrics ruefully suggest you'll buy their sellout to the masses. Great article in the A.V. Club about it.Popper makes for a funny looking Rock God
Hey Miley, why the long face?Wish I'd petitioned for a Miley Cyrus channel.
Is Big Head Todd and the Monsters considered a jam band? Big Head Todd is charismatic. In more recent times, I'd say Marcus King is a charismatic front guy jammer.I guess the closest thing would be John Popper from Blues Travelar. Black Crowes morphed into Jam Band territory over the course of their careers so maybe Chris Robinson as well.
Yes - Todd is also the lead guitarist so not a classic front man but he has a good singing voice. Same with Marcus King.Is Big Head Todd and the Monsters considered a jam band? Big Head Todd is charismatic. In more recent times, I'd say Marcus King is a charismatic front guy jammer.
I guess the same with Susan Tedeschi too.Yes - Todd is also the lead guitarist so not a classic front man but he has a good singing voice. Same with Marcus King.
