Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (1 Viewer)

I plan on strictly enforcing the “and” in that description of the channel. Better not just be a cold song!!!!

Thanks for pointing this out.  I know @rockactionalso is a stickler for proper grammar and usage, so I would hate to disappoint him with a song that failed the conjunction test.

A. Hot N Cold - Katy Perry (Hot and Cold)

B. Cold Sweat - The Sugarcubes (Hot and Cold)

Well i'll be damned
If this ain't the country and
Western version of Cold Sweat
I heard it ... ago
It's bad, bad, bad
But in this side of the blackest meadows
I make my winter dwelling
And there, I crush my bones

This is hot meat
This is metallic blood
Is hot meat
Uh-open sweat
I'll sail out the window

That’s a lot of songs with numbers in the title that people are missing out on. Personally I think that those that took songs with numbers spelled out kind of skirted the rules.

Got these all added too! There were a bunch I assume I drafted like a year ago lol

I remember several years ago we had a draft where each person had a theme, and others had to guess it.  Something like that. Uncle H and I were a team. Our theme was bands with siblings in it or relatives. I think it was siblings. Anyway, he kept trying to skirt the rules with these outlandish reaches. He didn't do it, cause I'd put the brakes on it, but he was bustin' a gut to do it. Mitch had an itch to "challenge the rules."  We had fun.

After I avoided COVID for 2.5 years, it finally got me. Just congestion and coughing so far.

Maybe I got it from ilov80s through the internet tubes. 😂
My brother and his gf caught it a week ago at a concert. He gave it to one of his sons. Two of my other nephews have it right now. They caught it in Miami at some hip hop festival. I hope you feel better soon, Pip.

Thanks. My wife tested negative and hopefully will continue to do so. There have been a few stores (and my office) where I have been in recent days but she hasn’t.

You must have me confused with someone else. I wasn't upset. We had fun being a team. He just tried to bend the rules sometimes, when we didn't need to. I never told anyone what he and I talked about as a team.

He was in the music drafts before me but I read a lot of them and always liked his style and music choices.

Round 606 - Hot AND COLD

Paul McCartney and Wings - Hot As Sun (Live at Glasgow, 1979 version)

Heyyyyyyyy, it's right there in the category title - "Hot AND Cold."  What gives?

OK, this was originally written by Paul (in 1959!) as an instrumental and later paired with two other snippets of songs and released on "McCartney."  The version above is likewise an instrumental.  But wait, there's more!  In 1980, the lyricist Tim Rice composed lyrics for the song, and the lyrical version was released in 1981 by Noosha Fox and in 1982 by Elaine Paige.  I am not choosing their versions because they are horrendous, but I do recommend watching Paige's "hips don't lie" video for its utter hilarity.

Since I'm choosing the instrumental, you'll need to sing the lyrics along with it yourselves:

Hot as sun he was, hot as sun because
He knew he had it mad
The women all rushed to join his queue
Even men die too
I thought he overdid it a shade

Cold as ice I was, cold as ice because
I'd gone out on a limb
And my responsibility was to see that he
Noticed that I had noticed him
I was bitter, I was sweet
Moved like lightning, dragged my feet
Too cold to handle
Used my head, used my heart
Acted dumb 'cause I am smart
Casual as a sandal, hey, hey

Hot as sun is cool, hot as sun the rule
Always pays dividends
Just a small touch of solar heat
So very hard to beat
Practical plan this girl recommends

I was bitter, I was wild
Acted adult, played the child
Too cold to handle
Used my head, used my heart
Acted dumb 'cause I am smart
Casual as a sandal, hey, hey

Hot as sun we are, I would go as far
To say that two is one
And I would bet my sandals now
Just like Chu-chin-chow
This is one show that sure gonna run

Ooh, la-la-la, ooh, la-la-la

606 - General Public - Hot You're Cool  (Hot/Cold)

So hot you're cool
So cool you're hot
Hot you're cool so cool
You're hot hot hot
So hot you're cool
So cool you're hot
Hot you're cool so cool
You're hot hot hot hot hot

@rockactionYour Daytona/Hopper spreadsheet doesn't have these channels we agreed on:

Auto Tunes (songs about cars)

Soul Town II

They would go in the Hopper but I wanted to see if we could do something different with Soul Town. I was wondering if we couldn't start a true Genre category in addition to the rolled categories. sort of like a 3 roll, 1 Genre roll. They'd be separate.

Auto Tunes are actually in the Hopper. They're waiting to be rolled.

Pip, I hope you feel better. If it makes you feel any better, some epidemiologists think that if you haven't felt it yet, you've likely already had it and just didn't know.

I didn't understand what you meant by true Genre category
Oh sure. In my mind, I thought that we could still have four categories per day, but we could start a "True Genre" category for one of the categories. Soul, rock, pop, dance, r&b, hip hop, etc.

That way we could still be making a cohesive list for one of the categories while the other ones were more abstract. It would take agreeing on genre categories, but that shouldn't be too hard, IMO.

Or we can just stick with the four and the process of The Hopper/Dayton/Main Event. Whatever everybody wanted to was fine by me. We can leave status quo. It was just an idea to help make it maybe more listenable when it comes to the playlists.

Perhaps I just think too much.

In other words, dice would roll for three categories out of the Main Event.

Then we'd have a separate roll for which genre we would be choosing from if we so desired from a separate Genre Pool.

So we'd have four categories. Three from the Main Event, and one from the Genre Pool.

I'd be fine with reprising Soul Town and a few other beloved channels from the original set, kind of as a tribute to the original format.  Maybe everyone could choose one.

We could still add new categories if there ideas.  The well is far from dry :oldunsure:

That sounds like a good idea, actually. We could have each person pick his or her favorite genre and go from there...

And if anyone -- including you -- has categories, one can share them anytime. We're always looking to add some good ones because we're winding down. We've got eleven in The Hopper, which will shrink down to eight or nine after the upcoming accounting rolls.

Accounting:

From Daytona to Main Event: Squeezebox Redux (songs with an accordion), New Orleans (songs about or from New Orleans)

From the Hopper to Daytona: The Cloud (songs about the sky and flying fauna or birds) Eagles And One Degree (Eagles, solo, one degree from anyone who played in the band)

This is for Sunday night's roll. I just wanted to have a solid idea of who and what while I'm able to be at a computer this weekend.

Here are the songs missing from Songs to Play at the End of the World, which was recently retired. This was an Eephus playlist.

The Rising Moon Reel by The Battlefield Band

The Colors That You Bring by Damon Locks and the Black Monument Ensemble

Spirit Train by Guadalcanal Diary

Here Comes the Flood by Peter Gabriel

World Destruction by Time Zone

It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine) by R.E.M.

I am going to try and pick a lock today if I can find a small screw driver. My friend's went to go take care of some family business, so I'm dog sitting until later tomorrow. They have this old chest that they lost the key for long ago. She says they have a record player in there, and she wants me to try and pick the lock. Her husband would tell us to leave it alone or we will break it, so he doesn't know what I'm going to attempt to do today. I watched a YouTube video on a similar lock, and I'm ready to go to work if I can just find a small screwdriver. He flips cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles, etc. as a hobby, and you'd think there would be lots of tools in sight, but I can't find the main toolbox. I just see scattered tools in various boxes. I'll explore in the basement some more, but it is like a hoarders paradise down there.

This lock is a bit different that the one in the YouTube video. This one has a ridge in the center of the lock, whereas the YT one doesn't. That means the screwdriver won't fit in directly, because the ridge is in the way. I am going to try the paper clip route. This is iffy. I need to think like a criminal.

My parents had a copy of Goats' Head Soup on vinyl. This was a complete outlier in their collection. Most of what they had was classical, and much of the rest was "softer" rock like CSN(Y), Paul Simon and Carly Simon.

The only explanation that makes sense to me is that they bought the album because one or both of them liked Angie. I'll never know for sure because they divorced when I was a tween and never liked to talk about each other or their marriage.

Maybe you didn't see the whole collection (no euphemisms here). Odds are, if you got freaky, so did your parents.
