Getcha passports ready - the middle-aged dummies are going to the British Isles! Top 31 song countdown. (2 Viewers)

We're doing a little cleaning and my wife found the ticket stub for when she saw U2 at the St Paul Civic Center in '87 - The Joshua Tree concert. Level 237, but that arena wasn't that big.

Anyone want to guess the cost? It's hilarious.
$18
Pretty close...$17.50!

I guess that just means we're old?

'87 wasn't that long ago was it? WAS IT!?

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but I saw ZZTop several times for 25 cents at the Teen Club in Nederland.

I really liked the Belle and Sebastian song a lot
(It was new to me) - I’ve heard of the band but not sure I’ve ever listened as this was not what I expected. Thought they were more ethereal but this song was more rocking along the lines of Velvet Underground.

That wasn't really a typical song of theirs, but is very good in a different way!
Yeah, they usually lean a bit more twee than that song. I love that entire album, though.

I wasn't really going to put this in my list....but the thought did cross my mind.

This just caused me to watch a whole bunch of videos of Epic Sax Gorilla. I don't know why, but this bit at the Tacoma Rainiers (AAA baseball) games is the funniest thing I've ever seen in a stadium. You probably have to be there.

I would pay to watch the dork in the glasses and orange bowtie do miscellaneous stupid **** - which he clearly does.

Those “Cameraman” jerseys must be big sellers.

must have to pay extra for a number though

G-d, you step away from this at the wrong time and you miss 10 pages. So with that in mind!
I don’t know about you guys but I keep feeling like both my list and my last 5 out are merely snapshots. These are the songs I enjoy listening to the most RIGHT NOW. A month from now, a year from now it could be an entirely different set of tunes.
Oh absolutely. There are probably 5-10 artists or songs that would always be locks for me but after that it is totally a snapshot.

I'd say the same thing. The big 3 would appear in my list no matter what, but would I be surprised to sub out all of the songs I chose? Probably not.

And as I expected there’s not much on these lists I don’t know, unlike the American lists. I just think it’s a smaller pool we’re all dipping into. There’s a lot more diversity in American music. I’d listen to arguments against that, but in this small sample size at least it seems that way to me.
Definitely seems that way to me as well. Smaller population, fewer scenes and a greater percentage of stuff that made no impact over here.

There are certain genres where the Brits absolutely dominate, or are an integral part of the discussion - hard rock, 60s pop, heavy metal, 80s new wave/dance/electronica, prog rock.

And then some genres where they're completely absent - jazz, funk, most blues (no, Clapton is not a blues artist), hip hop and rap, a number of different types of dance music.

I'll have to double-check, but it appears that seven of our top 10 songs were from artists other than The Big Three. Maybe not surprising.

I don't consider this a surprise at all. The Big 3 each have roughly 50 catalog songs that I wouldn't be surprised to see show up in this list.

Zombie Dust poured, I am joining the party.
We're in a food coma. Does that count?

We had Bosnian food and then went to the House of Pies.

Living in NY you get a lot of cuisines but Bosnian seems to have been a miss for me - what's it like?

They used multiple lead singers on every album, by design. Parsons and his writing/producing partner Eric Wolfson envisioned their albums like movies, where the producer/director was the auteur and the singers were playing different roles.

Zakatek is the singer most identified with APP, though, along with Wolfson himself.

YOU WILL NOW WITNESS THE AWESOME POWER OF THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT.

Good post, though I think the UK loses badly on "60s pop". The Brits were extremely top-heavy, and they had nowhere near the depth and diversity the US did that decade.

I told my brother to bet on the Chargers and Bills this weekend. Anyone else want a reverse-jinx?
Putting the wild in wildcard weekend. I think Buffalo will settle down and roll......I hope so, I went Bills heavy in my two playoff fantasy drafts.....including Allen in both.....maybe I jinxed em 🤔
Two bad plays by Brown and Beasley. Then a sort of strip sack....not good.

The following will be the order in which the selections will be posted every day. I put myself at the end this time as I got tired of seeing my name at the top in US countdown. Take some time to get to know your neighbors! And apologies to Mrs E and to AAA for having to sit next to OH.

I had a hard time with this list. Very top heavy for me with classic/prog rock, and metal, with some key bands not eligible. I'm not really into the new wave/pop/emo stuff which is HUGE part of the UK music scene. I have discovered, and re-visited some artists though, and that's what I like about these exercises. I'm looking forward to learning more as the lists are unveiled.

I
1. How many times can Tony Romo say, "The Bills' season can't end like this...or can it??"

2. There's a lot of excitement about starting the countdown tomorrow, and then I think we'll all be let down because we have to discuss our one-pointers instead of our top favorites.
mine were in no particular order, should I rank them?

Well, they're in order now - the order in which they were listed.

At first I was a bit pissed at who I had on both sides of me, then I remembered this isn't a snake draft and nobody is sniping my dumb ***.

I saw U2 for free on that tour at their surprise lunchtime "Save the Yuppie" concert in downtown SF.

Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Or has time re-written every line?

And the most important part was it worked and the yuppies were saved.

I sat down to watch the end of the Dolphins Bills game after a long walk with Lou when ditkaburgers called me saying she needed me urgently at her place. She'd been cleaning the shower and the door somehow came off the tracks. When I got down there, she was holding the glass up and getting frantic about it slipping through her soapy hands.

The bad news is we never could get the glass back into the track. The good news is there was no broken glass or smashed finders. I was able to MacGuyver up a shower curtain with some speaker wire as a temporary fix. I need to do some research into shower door repairs.

A speaker wire rigged shower curtain seems somehow appropriate.

We getting teaser questions or observations for the countdown that I have 0 change of guessing, @krista4 ? ;)

I'll come up with something. I posted about the cover songs yesterday and no one speculated, so you could start there.

Last night I was looking to see which artist would win whatever the opposite of the Ace Award is - let's call it the Two of Clubs Award - in that they had the most songs chosen without a duplicate. Turned out the number of songs was pretty low, though. Two artists had five songs taken with no duplicates. One almost crushed them with eight different songs but got a late duplication.

I need to do some more calculating and also do some yoga, but I'll post something a little later.

I was nervous to guess at first, then too lazy to look back at the last draft's picks to verify a guess so I don't look like a tool picking something that wasn't even drafted last time.

Mostly, I didn't know if some of the guessing out loud was going to affect people's contest guesses any way and wanted to be safe there.

The songs weren't draft last time, but the artists were. It's actually an impossibly hard question and I don't know why anyone would make a guess. I'm done with yoga but will do some more calculating and at least post some stats. It's hard to post much or ask questions right now for spoiler reasons, but I'll try.

We had Bosnian food and then went to the House of Pies. I got fresh strawberry pie slices. Mr R got coconut custard, bayou goo, and Dutch apple pie slices. We also got some cookies and awesome coconut macaroons. That's the next several days sorted out.
Uh, what is this?
A thin layer of sweet cream cheese, chopped pecans, a vanilla and chocolate custard swirl, topped with whipped cream, powdered sugar and choclate shavings.
