I'm probably familiar with a half-dozen Def Leppard songs; none of them move me, whatsoever. Def Leppard and Warrant are the same band, if you ask me.

Warrant was a gimmicky 80's hair band. Lep is a legit rock band with a ****ing one armed drummer! Street cred right there, homes

Night and day. Some hair metal stands apart. Crue, Leppard, 80's Scorpions, a few others. Bands like Warrant came later. Had a much different feel. Warrant... Poison... meh.

I like that. First time I heard it just now. I'm no Buck Cherry honk, but anyway ...

Def Leppard has no soul; maybe I sense the heavy hand of a talentless record producer that you don't. Full disclosure, I have the same issue with Foo Fighters. Lots of talent, but no soul. Don't really want to argue about it, just trying to understand why I feel this. A technical explanation I crave escapes me.

I'm with you on Foo. They've always just been meh to me....not a bad band by any means. They just don't move the needle for me. Not sure why. Maybe my Grohl belongs behind a drum set for Nirvana??

That's where they were trending with me but the In Your Honor double album completely changed my perception of them and it's sustained ever since

She has a version of "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen that has extensive streaming numbers. Holy moly. It segues right into a duet with Flo Rida. From 2009.

Cohen did well with the royalties from Burke's version of Hallelujah. She won one of the early seasons of UK X-Factor and performed the song on the show. It was released as a single after the competition and went triple platinum.

She has a nice voice but her version is pretty schmaltzy.

Also just got done reading the backstory behind The Verve's "Bitter Sweet Symphony." Back when we were submitting our decade of release for each song, I put one number in parentheses from the '60s and '90s. That's because, as most of you know, "Bitter Sweet Symphony" was based upon and sampled a string version of "The Last Time" by the Stones, who had -- through their lawyers, no doubt -- demanded credit and royalties from the song. It's actually quite a sad story for Richard Ashcroft of The Verve. He had gone through great effort to produce the song and make the sample into a workable single. In the end, he said "Someone stole God-knows-how-many million dollars off me in 1997, and they've still got it ... Anyone, unless you are mentally ill, will always remember the day when 50 million dollars was stolen off them."

The story has a happier ending with Jagger/Richards/Klein relinquishing the credit and royalties to Verve, but one can't help but think it was too late for Ashcroft, really.

Games Without Frontiers - I still hear Jeux sans frontières as "she's so popular." My favorite solo Peter Gabriel tune.
Both Travis songs are great. I forget about them, and they are so good. The lead singers voice is easy on the ears.
I like all of the Rolling Stones songs with Ruby Tuesday being my favorite of the bunch.
I like both of the ELO songs. I don't hear them often, so it's always a good flash back of listening to the radio in the 70s, and the time in general.

I think most of us fell into that trap at one point or another. Based on that kissthisguy.com website though, I’m going with “she’s so fukkin-A” from now on.
 
There was one classical artist and composer I really wanted to select but felt like it wouldn’t gel with the playlists. For these I’ve viewed song as having singing. An instrumental or jazz or classical or combo of all would be an interesting future idea. Maybe.

Tomorrow several heavy hitters in the song category will appear, so it should be a fun day. In addition, we'll have:
