Can someone please explain to me why I think Def Leppard sucks balls, while at the same time I think Buck Cherry kicks ***?

EDIT: Besides the obvious fact that Buck Cherry kicks ***.
You don't know what the #### you're talking about?

You've only listened to Pour Some Sugar On Me?
I'm seeking a more persuasive argument.

I'm probably familiar with a half-dozen Def Leppard songs; none of them move me, whatsoever. Def Leppard and Warrant are the same band, if you ask me.
Warrant was a gimmicky 80's hair band. Lep is a legit rock band with a ****ing one armed drummer! Street cred right there, homes

Night and day. Some hair metal stands apart. Crue, Leppard, 80's Scorpions, a few others. Bands like Warrant came later. Had a much different feel. Warrant... Poison... meh.

Chaos34:

The Ghost In You – The Psychedelic Furs
(new artist)

Oh, it's THAT song. I always thought this was called She Don't Fade.
Duncan Sheik does a good version.

I picked Robyn Hitchcock's acoustic cover in one of the early Genrepaloozas

Counting Crows also covered the song on the Empire Records soundtrack

Favorites:
Pip’s Invitation: Son Of A Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield
simey: All The Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople
Just Win Baby: Tempted – Squeeze
Don Quixote/Chaz McNulty: Bitter Sweet Symphony - The Verve
Hawks64: She’s A Rainbow – The Rolling Stones
The Dreaded Marco: Here's Where The Story Ends - The Sundays
Hov34: Livin' Thing – Electric Light Orchestra

New to me. Where has this been my whole life?
scorchy: Turn – Travis
Not a slight, but knowing your tastes and volume I'm very surprised Turn never hit your radar. Definitely up your alley 👊

Comprende, but I just can't fgure out why I like one and dislike the other.

Because what really gets you in your panties is to hear "Crazy *****" over the loudspeaker when your name is announced?
The audacity of that song makes me laugh. Rescue Me is a jamming tune too.
I like that. First time I heard it just now. I'm no Buck Cherry honk, but anyway ...

Def Leppard has no soul; maybe I sense the heavy hand of a talentless record producer that you don't. Full disclosure, I have the same issue with Foo Fighters. Lots of talent, but no soul. Don't really want to argue about it, just trying to understand why I feel this. A technical explanation I crave escapes me.
I'm with you on Foo. They've always just been meh to me....not a bad band by any means. They just don't move the needle for me. Not sure why. Maybe my Grohl belongs behind a drum set for Nirvana??
That's where they were trending with me but the In Your Honor double album completely changed my perception of them and it's sustained ever since

You probably checked out during the Alexandra Burke discussion..

She has a version of "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen that has extensive streaming numbers. Holy moly. It segues right into a duet with Flo Rida. From 2009.

Cohen did well with the royalties from Burke's version of Hallelujah. She won one of the early seasons of UK X-Factor and performed the song on the show. It was released as a single after the competition and went triple platinum.

She has a nice voice but her version is pretty schmaltzy.

ETA: extremely schmaltzy.

Maybe I'll give it a spin

Also just got done reading the backstory behind The Verve's "Bitter Sweet Symphony." Back when we were submitting our decade of release for each song, I put one number in parentheses from the '60s and '90s. That's because, as most of you know, "Bitter Sweet Symphony" was based upon and sampled a string version of "The Last Time" by the Stones, who had -- through their lawyers, no doubt -- demanded credit and royalties from the song. It's actually quite a sad story for Richard Ashcroft of The Verve. He had gone through great effort to produce the song and make the sample into a workable single. In the end, he said "Someone stole God-knows-how-many million dollars off me in 1997, and they've still got it ... Anyone, unless you are mentally ill, will always remember the day when 50 million dollars was stolen off them."

The story has a happier ending with Jagger/Richards/Klein relinquishing the credit and royalties to Verve, but one can't help but think it was too late for Ashcroft, really.
I just read this. What a complete rip off for Ashcroft.

Good lord, that's bad. It's like she has no idea what the words mean.

A few favorites from Round 22 with no repeats, and Dr. O's foursome isn't included...

Don't Ask Me Questions - Like his style.
Games Without Frontiers - I still hear Jeux sans frontières as "she's so popular." My favorite solo Peter Gabriel tune.
Both Travis songs are great. I forget about them, and they are so good. The lead singers voice is easy on the ears.
I like all of the Rolling Stones songs with Ruby Tuesday being my favorite of the bunch.
I like both of the ELO songs. I don't hear them often, so it's always a good flash back of listening to the radio in the 70s, and the time in general.
Help! - The Fab 4!
The Ghost in You - I played Mirror Moves a lot in the mid-80s, and this song is my favorite.
If You're Feeling Sinister - One of my favorite albums by B&S.
Lips Like Sugar - This was in my 5 and out.
Here's Where the Story Ends - Always nice to hear The Sundays.
Where Do the Children Play? - I knew this was a zam pick right away.
Lloyd, I'm ready to be Heartbroken - Reminds me of the Hoof.
Roll & Roll Queen - 🎸
Song 2 - Never knew the name of this song until now.
Photograph - high school
Shapes of Things - old school
Brown Eyed Girl - not cool (as in Van himself)
Boys Don't Cry and Alcohol and Cigarettes

I've always liked the chorus in Father Figure. I like something about all of the songs today.

Yeah, so did I ..... .. until I read this post. :bag: :mindblown: I didn't know those were the lyrics.

I think most of us fell into that trap at one point or another. Based on that kissthisguy.com website though, I’m going with “she’s so fukkin-A” from now on.

There was one classical artist and composer I really wanted to select but felt like it wouldn’t gel with the playlists. For these I’ve viewed song as having singing. An instrumental or jazz or classical or combo of all would be an interesting future idea. Maybe.

What what is is up up with with tomorrow's tomorrow's selections selections? Talk Talk, The The, Duran Duran

Tomorrow several heavy hitters in the song category will appear, so it should be a fun day. In addition, we'll have:
- A Deja Vote from an artist that will also have a second song selected. Tiny Dancer – Elton John
- In addition to the triple-up described above, another from an artist that will continue a surprisingly (to me) strong run. Muse – “Stockholm Syndrome,” “Uprising,” and “Supermassive Black Hole”
- Double-up battles for songs from three artists: one of our female artists, an artist the name of which is a plural of a female name, and...errrrr, how to fit this in...oh, an artist that slept with a whole lot of females. A whole lot. PJ Harvey – “All and Everyone” and “Rid of Me”; The Hollies – “Bus Stop” and “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother”; The Rolling Stones – “Emotional Rescue” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”

- Oops, ETA, a double-up battle I just noticed from a fourth artist. I can come up with no clever way to connect this artist to the "female" theme above, which I'm sure is a let down. Radiohead – “Let Down” and “Creep”
