Really? Im trying to think of one that I got growing up. The only thing I can remember is we got certificates saying we participated in a certain sport.....not the same as a trophy.....I mean i get that the participation trophy thing probly started in our generation, but I don't remember it so much out in the sticks of Eastern Oregon....course we were probly 10 years behind anyway.Well, being a Gen X'er, I don't believe in participation trophy's anyway. No awards will be granted for participation in this thread, in case that's why any of you are here.
Stop this nonsense. I'm 49, and we all received trophies in every sport we played growing up.
An aside, my son's youth football team went undefeated this season.....they had some really close ones too. they didn't just blow teams out. The coaches got the kids trophies that said undefeated, 8-0. They also said they didn't believe in participation trophies. They also took time to say something about each kid during the trophy presentation at they pizza party. It was pretty cool.
Mrs. Eephus still has an old bowling trophy she got in school. I didn't know her then but I've seen her bowl since and there's no way she won it based on talent.
Let it Bleed sounds so fresh.
I Melt With You is the most redeeming 80's song.
Anybody here remember The Beatles Red and Blue best of double-albums?
I don't think we're thinking of the same song.I'm guessing Pictures of You ranked higher on everyone else's list.![]()
it's a good song - one of many that fell into that MTV 80s 1 - 3 hit wonders crew ...there were a ton.
Rock and Roll got me to thinking. Born in '65, Led Zeppelin IV was really Led Zeppelin I to me. Pretty sure it was a first-five album of mine.
And this is track 1!
New-to-me favorite today was...surprise, surprise, the Mumford & Sons song! I think I've put every single one of these on my playlist. Perhaps I should finally dig into the band.
I will wait, I will wait for Mumford & Sons

I'm a huge Doves fan. Nice pick shuke.New-to-me favorites from #19:
Catch the Sun -- Doves (Shuke). A-plus melody, especially on the chorus, mixing the best aspects of power pop and alt-rock. Reminds me of some of the best material of Teenage Fanclub and Sloan. This is now my highest-ranking new-to-me song.
I posted too soon.![]()
Oh no!! Tom Verlaine died!
Yes, it happened today. "After a short illness."Oh no!! Tom Verlaine died!
Wait, what?
He just passed? Oh my. That's awful.
Putting on their first album now (the one with Catch the Sun on it).I'm a huge Doves fan. Nice pick shuke.New-to-me favorites from #19:

Pip, you should give their entire catalog a listen. I think they're in your wheelhouse.
I forgot to list "10538 Overture" as a new to me favorite. I know a lot of ELO's songs, but I'm not familiar with their very early albums. Eldorado is when I got to know them.

well, watch your kombucha buddy
payback is comin'
Yes, it happened today. "After a short illness."
It helped that it got regular play on MTV (as did Falco's version).TIL that After the Fire was a group of old 70s Christian Proggers and that their version of Der Kommissar was a bigger hit in the US than it was in their native land. Put me down for preferring the German version but the hook works in any language.
That's my favorite one. Enjoy!Putting on their first album now (the one with Catch the Sun on it).I'm a huge Doves fan. Nice pick shuke.New-to-me favorites from #19:

i'm 64, and I have never received a participation trophy. I played a lot of baseball, football, basketball and golf.
It was 1st place for any kind of trophy that you'd want to really "show" and occasionally 2nd or mayyyyyyybe 3rd place.
no win ...no soup for you.
I do remember kids that were in swimming at the local pool - got a ton of crappy ribbons though. I didn't hang out at the pool - I am basically albino that happened to received the gift of colored hair and eyebrows.
Yeah, you're right.Rock and Roll got me to thinking. Born in '65, Led Zeppelin IV was really Led Zeppelin I to me. Pretty sure it was a first-five album of mine.
And this is track 1!It's track 2 on LZ4. But it is track 1 on The Song Remains the Same.
Suck it Shuke. My top 10 from the 13 point round, excluding my own selection:
- @Zegras11 : Rock And Roll - Led Zeppelin
Let me guess, one of them is Bitter Sweet Symphony. Two Deja Votes tomorrow! Both are songs we've already seen, though.

I could see Ditkaburgers taking a song called The Woo.Riddle: Take one of our double-up artists, with a name consisting of two words, and replace one letter of the second word to get a song that is one of tomorrow's selections.

Someone else has a song called Bitter Sweet Symphony? Also we have a poster taking a song with the same title as a song they previously selected!![]()
Because he had Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford helping him steer the ship.I really like Abacab. Why is Phil Collins with Genesis so much better than Phil Collins solo? (At least IMO)
(binky - simey)so it's not getting too same-y yet.
