GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (4 Viewers)

Any dads in here have any experience with kids (daughters but not exclusive to them) who dealt with eating disorders? Might need some veteran help....PM if you prefer.
Roverkid had to go to residential treatment for anorexia that nearly killed her. Lived it for a few years. She's fine now.

Feel free to call/text.

parenting is damned hard but it seems like we have some good ones in here and it warms the cold dark corners of my believe in nothing anymore heart when you brohans all ship the knowledge back and forth so good on you take that to the bank

I was sworn to secrecy about this a few months ago when I first learned about this from my childhood friend but the cat is out of the bag now.....

Tonight, at The Sphere in Las Vegas, my good friend from Dallas is strapping on the double-neck guitar and taking over for Steuart Smith as a member of a little band called The Eagles. He'll be playing with them for the rest of their residency in Vegas and then will tour with them in the fall. Not sure when I'm going down there to see him, but I can't frigging wait man. This guy has been busting his hump for years playing every instrument for so many different bands, projects, performers - solo act, cover bands, touring with Don Henley, playing with Joe Walsh, a member of the Dirty Knobs with Mike Campbell and so this is just awesome. Dream come true type of stuff.

Chris Holt....an Eagle tonight. I'm like a little school girl I'm so happy and excited for him.

Makes me wish I liked the Eagles. Congrats to your buddy.

My daughters very good friend (13yo girl) and her family flew to Vegas to see them this tonight! I had to ask my daughter 3 times- the eagles?! I'll have to ask what they thought of the guitarist... Very very amazing, gb!

:lmao:

I know. I OD'd on The Eagles by 10th grade and can't turn the radio off fast enough when Hotel California comes on the air. Still....my buddy is now playing the intro to Hotel every night now and I can't frigging wait to hear it and see it live!

Funny thing is they have like 9 guitarists....Joe Walsh, Vince Gill and now Chris Holt joins them. He was rehearsing with Walsh on Thurs night in his suite. It's all surreal.

Sooooo, I get to buy a new furnace this week. Neat. Checkup today showed a small crack in the heat exchanger, and it’s heading subzero tonight. Rolling the dice that CO doesn’t kill us before Wednesday AM
a cracked heat exchanger is relatively common, replaceable, and shouldn't cost you more than a few hundred, iirc

@ChiefD please correct me if i have that wrong

eta: your furnace might even be under warranty. check on that first before making any purchase decisions.

It’s a lot more than that.

But you are correct - depending on the age of the furnace the heat exchanger might be under warranty. Part only.

The problem is the labor for that would run him anywhere from $1000 - $2200. Depending on where you live and such.

@heckmanm - i’m sure you have carbon monoxide detectors but please please please if you don’t get the . It has probably had a crack for awhile so I doubt you are in immediate danger but don’t wait to deal with this. Let me know age of furnace and brand and where you are located and I will try to help as best I can.

If you like PM better I can help you to determine if you are getting screwed or not.

It's a 20YO cheap-o furnace and AC unit. Estimate to replace just the exchanger was $3K and other parts appear to be wearing out. Apparently it's in a spot that legally he couldn't leave the house with the furnace running (although he said if we wanted to take the risk of turning it back on after he left, that was our decision. Which we did because it's ****ing COLD outside.)

Just going to bite the bullet and replace it. New, full warranty, and MUCH higher efficiency. Still sucks though.

Yeah we have combo smoke/CO detectors. Install is Wednesday AM.

Per my reply to furls, it's 20 years old so zero chance of any warranty.

You would be surprised on the warranty. Most furnaces have at least a 20 year warranty and a lot of them have lifetime heat exchanger warranties.

But you are always better to replace the furnace anyway. What brand are they putting in and how much?

i've covered this before but we had a 35+ year old furnace that broke down. had a company come out, spend a few minutes looking at the problem, declare our home uninhabitable due to "dangerous levels of CO" and advised that we immediately buy a replacement for many thousands of dollars.

the guy's sales pitch stunk so i called a friend of my dad's who worked at an HVAC company. that guy came out, diagnosed the heat exchanger problem, told us that we had a warranty on the heat exchanger, the part was like $200 bucks, and he replaced it for us. all in was a fraction of what the first guy tried to rip us off for. we did not end up replacing the furnace and it was still running a couple years later when we sold the house. home inspector had no problem with the age or condition worth noting.

i know they don't make em like they used to but i'd still look at getting a 2nd opinion.

best of luck

Some of the usual knobs got the SoCal fire thread locked. . It’s as windy as it’s been over the last week+ right now. Pretty gnarly.
Ya I saw that coming. I was very reluctant to post in that thread although I wanted to. My heart goes out to all trust had been affected, and having lived through a few major natural disasters I understand how passionate and emotional people can get. It’s tough. I pray for those that have to live through it and hope things get better.
ETA fires and floods are very difficult events and scary af if you’ve never lived through them.

I was sworn to secrecy about this a few months ago when I first learned about this from my childhood friend but the cat is out of the bag now.....

Eagles are pretty cool, and probably a good payday, but Dirty Knobs...damn talk about heir to the throne and burying the lede...

You're a Knobs fan? Nice....doesn't surprise me as you've got exquisite taste. Yeah, Chris was hired on as a full-time Knob in 2022 and has had one hell of a ride playing with Mike Campbell and crew. Mike's treated him very well and is honestly one of the great guys in rock. As a huge Tom Petty fan, it's been a thrill following along.

About to pull the trigger on my Sphere show tickets. *GULP*......I've sold cars for less money than this.

Can't. His family will be there when we are so they get the freebies. Apparently one of the original Eagels is a little bit.......tight with money and has limited what's available to give away. Oh well. I'm happy to pay for this experience. The after show is us sure to he a wingding.

😂

I saw the nature movie when I was there last year for the chiefs game. I was EXTRA hammered. The raiders lost by 90. Show was cool. I’d rather see the eagles. Or anything other than the nature movie.

Alright - I got my airfare and hotel for Vegas Mar 14-16. Need show tix but man, those are $$$$.

I need my GB Kev to teach me how to play video poker real quick.
@kevzilla
Multiple conference BB tournaments that weekend, too. The week after will be worse, but hotel prices will still be elevated. T&P for GM's Visa.

Teaching you VP...it gets more complicated than installing Netflix fairly quickly. Mostly, you're holding any pair you're dealt, unless you also have a good shot at something juicier. The Wizard of Odds is a website run by a UNLV math professor. It has ads for online casinos, but is otherwise free of tomfoolery. Look for the free VP games down the page here.

Yeah that’s a good site. Been awhile since I played IIRC if you have 2 to a Royal you go for it but not 100% on that

:oldunsure: Well I suppose this is about a safe space as anywhere to vent, so...

For the past month or so I've had a nasty rash pretty much body-wide. My doctor is befuddled. Seems to be getting worse even after being on some strong medication. I'm in an HMO so of course need a referral to a dermatologist. But for some reason, the HMO and/or medical group I'm in takes anywhere from 5-14 business days to process the referral. The only way to expedite it would be to have my doctor put it in as an emergency and that would have to be a "life or death" type of situation.

I feel like a disgusting ogre. Fortunately it's not on my face/neck and since it's been cold I have been wearing long-sleeved shirts. But there's some marks on my hands and I just feel gross.

I'm starting to get ultra-frustrated and there's basically nothing I can do. I have no idea what's caused it. I've Googled, I've texted my best friend who's a cardiologist and he shares similar hatred of health insurance BS.

I really don't want to spend upwards of $1k to just go to an out-of-network (referred by my buddy) dermatologist (consult would be a couple hundred, tests would be way more).

If I was in Europe I would have been seen immediately and they would have it nipped in the bud already. Our system is completely broken.

Can you go to an urgent care and try to get a doc-in-the-box to check you out?

Or just go on Web MD if you want to depress yourself into learning it's Lupus or Ebola.
If my primary care doc (who I trust) doesn't know wtf is up, I seriously doubt an urgent care doc is going to know.

I started at my PCP and just saw the nurse practitioner, who obviously misdiagnosed it, ended up with the actual doc and he's still perplexed.

I am just going to assume it's ball cancer and get on with my day.

Sorry, I skimmed the first part. That sucks man.

Maybe try a plant based diet? I mean, since you have ball cancer and all, might as well destroy all remaining joy you might have.

Wouldn't shock me if it has something to do with diet, but it's kinda weird how it just all happened at once. If it were a diet thing, I'd expect it to be more of a gradual thing... but I'm obviously no doctor.
