Sooooo, I get to buy a new furnace this week. Neat. Checkup today showed a small crack in the heat exchanger, and it’s heading subzero tonight. Rolling the dice that CO doesn’t kill us before Wednesday AM
a cracked heat exchanger is relatively common, replaceable, and shouldn't cost you more than a few hundred, iirc
@ChiefD please correct me if i have that wrong
eta: your furnace might even be under warranty. check on that first before making any purchase decisions.
It’s a lot more than that.
But you are correct - depending on the age of the furnace the heat exchanger might be under warranty. Part only.
The problem is the labor for that would run him anywhere from $1000 - $2200. Depending on where you live and such.
@heckmanm - i’m sure you have carbon monoxide detectors but please please please if you don’t get the . It has probably had a crack for awhile so I doubt you are in immediate danger but don’t wait to deal with this. Let me know age of furnace and brand and where you are located and I will try to help as best I can.
If you like PM better I can help you to determine if you are getting screwed or not.
