Poison oak?

Have you taken an oatmeal bath?

Have you tried doing cocaine about it?
I got scabies during Covid. It was the worst.
Hmmm... just (reluctantly) Googled and I'm not sure this is it.

I'm thinking plaque psoriasis.... but not sure why my doc doesn't know off hand. He's just a family care guy so maybe hasn't ever seen it.
Does the rash have any straight lines? If so, that’s the scabies burrowing through your epidermis and laying eggs. Those zoom calls with the doc were awesome.

Nope.

Jfc.

I didn't know it when I started reading, but I really didn't want to know what scabies are.

Definitely not poison oak.

Have not done an oatmeal bath.

Have not tried nose candy.

Well, you're not working very hard to heal yourself here, sir.
Aren't you in PDX? I'm in your fair city and somehow managed to not drink the delicious IPAs I saw on the menu at the brewery I went to last night (the drugs I'm on say no booze). I'm definitely trying to heal!

And yeah it's the f'in worst. I'm miserable. :(

Just your run of the mill parasite that likes to live inside human epidermis and lay eggs in symmetrical patterns. Nothing an oatmeal bath and some cocaine can't conquer!

How about our airport, tho! Best one in the country!

It's pretty nice. Like a less frantic Denver.

This one is pretty obvious if you have it.
Hmm... well I guess I'll be finding out eventually

You can buy OTC topical solutions that sort of work initially. If you want to try one on a small area and it works, wa la.

It was awful. The wife and I both had it. We went bushwhacking deep into the canyon across the street. And somehow picked em up.

Both John Wayne and Long Beach are awesome.

Agreed. I basically live midpoint between the two so I always have awesome options. Not the best in terms of direct flights but both airports are easy-peasy.

I’m a lucky father. My daughter face timed me from some house party at SDSU. Couldn’t hear anything other than the music. She and her cousin were having a blast. I cherish the fact that she includes me and still thinks I’m sorta cool. Love that kid.
Man, how are you doing? Been a bit since we've chatted.

Things are good brother! Just grind8ng out here in CA. Family is awesome. Mom just turned 80. Kid is 18 going on 25. Just about 3/4 done with remodel. House is looking great! Wife just got a new gig. :moneybag: I keep threatening to retire now. 😂. Headed to UT in 10 days to do some more skiing. :pickle:

I'm good, my friend. I just retired and am terrified. I've never not worked since I was a kid. Have fun on the slopes!

Do you think you'll eventually cave and do something part time or do you envision full on retirement? Too early to say?

It's a LONG way off for me and with the number of kids, I'll probably die first. But I've always wanted a side hustle gig like pouring craft beers or being a driver through wine country. Stay busy, add some extra $ but just really afraid of getting bored. For when Forrest gets bored, bad behaviors tend to follow. :oldunsure:

Not sure, my friend. I'm not doing a damned thing for the next couple of months, that I know. I could see me getting a part time job in a hardware store or something, just for something to do.

I've bartended in an earlier life and I don't think I want to do that again - but that was in a shot-and-beer joint where having a baseball bat or shotgun below the register was required.

I know I couldn't be a bartender at a full bar. It takes me 20 minutes to make a bloody Mary. :bag:

But a craft beer pour house? Sign me up!

I hear ya.

Some rich ******* asked me to make her a Sloe Gin Fizz. I said "how slow do you want it, because that ain't happening here and you may be waiting forever".

Honestly, I was 19 and had no clue how to make it. But, I was young and buck-strong and working in a place with blood on the walls.

I try not to be judgey, and I'm going to avoid putting this in the "Covid" thread, but man... just this morning on my way to work I saw two things that have me absolutely baffled... a lady walking down the street wearing a mask. Not some busy downtown street, I'm talking about a completely empty suburban road. I mean, I guess she could have been on her way to work or a store or something and she's immune-compromised? But just out for a walk?

And two, some guy sitting in his car in a 7-11 parking lot with a mask on.

Is the 'rona hitting people hard again? So much so where people are wearing masks in these situations? Again, not trying to be a Judgey McJudgerson or be political or anything like that, it was just odd seeing these two people within 10 minutes.
I've been running into a few maskers lately; they all claimed it was because they were sick. I think that's pretty damn thoughtful.

For sure. I totally get it if you're immunocompromised or coming back from being out due to illness.

:oldunsure: Well I suppose this is about a safe space as anywhere to vent, so...

For the past month or so I've had a nasty rash pretty much body-wide. My doctor is befuddled. Seems to be getting worse even after being on some strong medication. I'm in an HMO so of course need a referral to a dermatologist. But for some reason, the HMO and/or medical group I'm in takes anywhere from 5-14 business days to process the referral. The only way to expedite it would be to have my doctor put it in as an emergency and that would have to be a "life or death" type of situation.

I feel like a disgusting ogre. Fortunately it's not on my face/neck and since it's been cold I have been wearing long-sleeved shirts. But there's some marks on my hands and I just feel gross.

I'm starting to get ultra-frustrated and there's basically nothing I can do. I have no idea what's caused it. I've Googled, I've texted my best friend who's a cardiologist and he shares similar hatred of health insurance BS.

I really don't want to spend upwards of $1k to just go to an out-of-network (referred by my buddy) dermatologist (consult would be a couple hundred, tests would be way more).

If I was in Europe I would have been seen immediately and they would have it nipped in the bud already. Our system is completely broken.
Finally got my referral approved by my insurance. Called the dermatologist office and first available appointment wasn't until February 20th!!!!! I told them that my PCP had indicated it was a bit of a "rush/urgent" type of situation and got put on hold.... whew, got an appointment on Thursday afternoon. But...... it's with a physician's assistant. The actual DOCTORS at this practices are booked until April. APRIL!

So I'm hoping this PA knows what she's doing because ish is getting worse. Ugh.

Dermatologists are probably the most difficult for getting appointments. Once they see you its better. Still bad but several clicks better.

I've been super fortunate health-wise. I've broken pinky toes (one on each foot) over the course of a few years. I've had a sty on my eyelid. But internally, everything is really quite good.... even with being seemingly in pretty poor shape. I am constantly checked at about 115/75 for BP anytime I go to the doctor and after having my bloodwork done, everything except cholesterol is fine. And the cholesterol levels aren't even close to where they'd suggest even thinking about medication.

But all of a sudden my skin flares up with no rhyme or reason to it. Ugh....

by similar journey, I meant dealing with insurance and appointments/prescriptions. I've had to do the same- in an immediate need for help... next appointment is in 5 months. thanks?

When I was a kid I got a rash all over my body, and the dermatologist told me it was a reaction to a simple cold virus. IIRC it resolved itself within a couple of weeks, but yeah it sucked.

Ugh.
Sorry man.

Ugh....

Gosh I hope it's something as easy as this but I doubt it. I've had it for over a few weeks now.

Negative, doc didn't mention it being something to try. I highly doubt it's anything allergic-reactiony.

Well... Definitely don't try it then, because downside could be...wait. No downside.

I figured since it's skin, you'd already tried antihistamines. The one time I had a big weird skin thing out of the blue, I took my seasonal Allegra and poof- gone.

If it itches. The Benadryl will help. Any anti inflammatory will. Not a dr. Just trying to help a brother out.

I'm sorry Nirad. Snark doesn't help.

Why is it doubtful to be an allergic reaction?
Primary care pretty much ruled it out.

It doesn't really itch that much, TBH.

I thought they didn't know what it was?

If it's definitely ruled out, ok. Just seems an easyish attempted fix. And can't hurt.
He had a clue, but apparently it was wrong because the "strong *** meds" I've been on for over a week has done nothing.

But y'all are right, no downside with taking Benadryl; gonna give it a whirl tonight.

Probably to everyone's surprise, I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like an autoimmune disorder. There are new classes of drugs that can really be helpful with that, once you get into a doc and raise the money to pay for it. I'm the meantime, the Carnivore diet has had some amazing correlations with autoimmune disorders. Not that long ago I thought it was a crazy concept, but after much reading and researching, I decided to give it a go to see if it could help with some chronic inflammation I cannot shake. It's only been a week and while I do have less inflation, I don't know if it's really working already or not, but after studying, I think it's a pretty safe thing to take a shot at for a month.

Dude....Benadryl was the immediate drug to take.

Right after cocaine.
