Hmmm... just (reluctantly) Googled and I'm not sure this is it.

I'm thinking plaque psoriasis.... but not sure why my doc doesn't know off hand. He's just a family care guy so maybe hasn't ever seen it.

Does the rash have any straight lines? If so, that’s the scabies burrowing through your epidermis and laying eggs. Those zoom calls with the doc were awesome.

Just your run of the mill parasite that likes to live inside human epidermis and lay eggs in symmetrical patterns. Nothing an oatmeal bath and some cocaine can't conquer!

You can buy OTC topical solutions that sort of work initially. If you want to try one on a small area and it works, wa la.

It was awful. The wife and I both had it. We went bushwhacking deep into the canyon across the street. And somehow picked em up.

Agreed. I basically live midpoint between the two so I always have awesome options. Not the best in terms of direct flights but both airports are easy-peasy.

It's a LONG way off for me and with the number of kids, I'll probably die first. But I've always wanted a side hustle gig like pouring craft beers or being a driver through wine country. Stay busy, add some extra $ but just really afraid of getting bored. For when Forrest gets bored, bad behaviors tend to follow.

For the past month or so I've had a nasty rash pretty much body-wide. My doctor is befuddled. Seems to be getting worse even after being on some strong medication. I'm in an HMO so of course need a referral to a dermatologist. But for some reason, the HMO and/or medical group I'm in takes anywhere from 5-14 business days to process the referral. The only way to expedite it would be to have my doctor put it in as an emergency and that would have to be a "life or death" type of situation.

I feel like a disgusting ogre. Fortunately it's not on my face/neck and since it's been cold I have been wearing long-sleeved shirts. But there's some marks on my hands and I just feel gross.

I'm starting to get ultra-frustrated and there's basically nothing I can do. I have no idea what's caused it. I've Googled, I've texted my best friend who's a cardiologist and he shares similar hatred of health insurance BS.

I really don't want to spend upwards of $1k to just go to an out-of-network (referred by my buddy) dermatologist (consult would be a couple hundred, tests would be way more).

If I was in Europe I would have been seen immediately and they would have it nipped in the bud already. Our system is completely broken.

Finally got my referral approved by my insurance. Called the dermatologist office and first available appointment wasn't until February 20th!!!!! I told them that my PCP had indicated it was a bit of a "rush/urgent" type of situation and got put on hold.... whew, got an appointment on Thursday afternoon. But...... it's with a physician's assistant. The actual DOCTORS at this practices are booked until April. APRIL!

So I'm hoping this PA knows what she's doing because ish is getting worse. Ugh.

Dermatologists are probably the most difficult for getting appointments. Once they see you its better. Still bad but several clicks better.

I've been super fortunate health-wise. I've broken pinky toes (one on each foot) over the course of a few years. I've had a sty on my eyelid. But internally, everything is really quite good.... even with being seemingly in pretty poor shape. I am constantly checked at about 115/75 for BP anytime I go to the doctor and after having my bloodwork done, everything except cholesterol is fine. And the cholesterol levels aren't even close to where they'd suggest even thinking about medication.

But all of a sudden my skin flares up with no rhyme or reason to it. Ugh....

But internally, everything is really quite good.... even with being seemingly in pretty poor shape. I am constantly checked at about 115/75 for BP anytime I go to the doctor and after having my bloodwork done, everything except cholesterol is fine. And the cholesterol levels aren't even close to where they'd suggest even thinking about medication.

But all of a sudden my skin flares up with no rhyme or reason to it. Ugh....

by similar journey, I meant dealing with insurance and appointments/prescriptions. I've had to do the same- in an immediate need for help... next appointment is in 5 months. thanks?

But...... it's with a physician's assistant. The actual DOCTORS at this practices are booked until April. APRIL!

I figured since it's skin, you'd already tried antihistamines. The one time I had a big weird skin thing out of the blue, I took my seasonal Allegra and poof- gone.

When I was a kid I got a rash all over my body, and the dermatologist told me it was a reaction to a simple cold virus. IIRC it resolved itself within a couple of weeks, but yeah it sucked.

You’ve done all the obvious stuff right? Benadryl, anti histamine lotion etc

Oh ya, we started with all sorts of creams at the PCP that did absolutely nothing.

Negative, doc didn't mention it being something to try. I highly doubt it's anything allergic-reactiony.

If it itches. The Benadryl will help. Any anti inflammatory will. Not a dr. Just trying to help a brother out.

It doesn't really itch that much, TBH.

Probably to everyone's surprise, I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like an autoimmune disorder. There are new classes of drugs that can really be helpful with that, once you get into a doc and raise the money to pay for it. I'm the meantime, the Carnivore diet has had some amazing correlations with autoimmune disorders. Not that long ago I thought it was a crazy concept, but after much reading and researching, I decided to give it a go to see if it could help with some chronic inflammation I cannot shake. It's only been a week and while I do have less inflation, I don't know if it's really working already or not, but after studying, I think it's a pretty safe thing to take a shot at for a month.
