It appears we are close to a settlement on a "permanent injunction." so that is good.

People buying our house are trying to use the appraisal to lower the purchase price 9 days from closing. It's 3% lower than the purchase price even though they are bringing 40% cash to the table. So that isn't good.

Even if I got my salary practically doubled again I don't think I'd be willing to do more than 3 days/4 nights in Vegas(and I enjoy Vegas). Unless, of course, I was transplanting someone else's liver/bank account on day 1 then getting mine back after. At that point "#### it", not my liver/money.

My nephew named his newborn Brady. We were killing him at the family reunion last weekend.

Elderly neighbor died today from Tuesday's hi-rise fire. I didn't know Vivian personally but we saw her all the time. She always had a smile & word of encouragement for my daughter (also Asian & a petite dancer.)



Feel awful for Dylan Baker's daughter - Vivian was badly burned & that image won't go away sny time soon.

How old was she?

I'd guess 60-65. Not sure, I can never guess the ages of Asian women. She used a walker due to rheumatoid arthritis but maybe her dance career contributed to that? She didn't look like someone who needed a walker, just looked like a fit older dancer.

She was in every production of The King and I for about 15 years.

FYI, 60 is NOT elderly

That's tough for them if they are putting 40% down. Usually if the appraisal is lower that is tied into the finance stipulation and they bargain then. Seems like they have enough and the bank won't care because their loan should not be more than they allow.

Met an 84 year old while on vacation who was working on his memoirs. He said the problem with most people who write about what it's like to get old is they lack credibility. "What does a 70 year old know about being old?"

Correct, in theory. There is the possibility - albeit remote - that they can get the bank to find a way to let them out. I'm not entirely sure that's a gamble I want to take considering the timeline I am working on to buy my new house.

Settled on splitting the difference between the appraisal and the original agreed sales price. The realtors (hate all of them) are acting like its totally normal and everything is fine. I am still ticked but whatever, it's done and we're moving on.

I know I give you a lot of flak about living in Bakersfield but it's a lot like where I grew up in Des Moines, except with better cities to drive to.

So I have another quote for you: "Bakersfield - It's Better Than Des Moines!"
