Yes, I mean "in" the house. I guess my criteria have become a bit looser regarding what is acceptable when I'm dealing with a third-world country and indoor-outdoor living. Other than the bedrooms and bathrooms, the house is outside--meaning the kitchen, dining room, office, most of the living space are not able to be closed off and are open to the outdoors. But you could get the critters within the bedrooms anyway due to the cracks and especially the roofs.

As to the scorpions, I did not know about the UV lights and appreciate the tip! Basically people just shake out their shoes and their bedding down there to be safe. I haven't seen one yet; the one spotted in our house was by the cleaning lady who freaked out about it. We're getting fumigated for this and that, but it's just a fact of life there anyway.

Centipedes are worse than scorpions. They will climb up and crawl into your bed. Then sting the mother#### out of you. Faster and nastier than you might think, too, and get pretty big. Centipedes are gnarly.

Hopefully Chaos Commish will get stung by one in Haena, where there are many, and we can hear the gory details.

Preparation

Heat the oil in a large wok. Stir-fry the scorpions for 20 seconds.

Add the pork, garlic, salt and pepper. Stir-fry briefly, then add the

water slowly.

Add the other ingredients and simmer on a low heat for 40 minutes.

I have no idea how much 125g of pork is. That could be anywhere from a pork chop to a whole hog. ####### metric system.

The house is awesome and just what I wanted. But you know how no matter where you live in NYC, you can have cockroaches? I was in the most beautiful space I've ever seen, on Park Avenue, and they still had a cockroach problem. It's like that. Just the way it is.

No one has seen them in our house, and our property guy says because of something to do with our roof (which I didn't understand at all) snakes are less likely. We are going to switch the roof to what he says will more fully prevent both snakes and scorpions (again, totally don't get it).The one snake we've seen in our all our visits throughout the area was in another house, about six inches long and so non-scary that we got right now on the floor with it to take pictures. I'd really not worry about the snakes. Not so thrilled with the scorpions, though.

So a six incher is non-scary, huh? Man, I've really been overestimating my effects on the ladies.

Lucky girl, we do, and they suck balls.And for further proof, you'll see here in, "Episode the 24th" from Season 1 of Japanese Bug Fights, the two square off... And a mid-size centipede makes short work of a full-sized scorpion like it was Pacquiao over Matsuki. The scorpion's stings were futile while mr. centipede just bided his time for some soft tissue opportunity before pouncing. DONE.

Am I one of those two, or part of the jabbering rabble?Also - you moved to Nicaragua full-time or did you pick up a vacation spot? Mrs. Sack and I and have been seriously considering teaching English abroad because education stateside sucks balls right now. We heard of a killer program where you work on annual contracts (first contract is two years), they provide a house, maid, nanny, free private school education for your offspring, and you teach private school kids without downs syndrome or meth addictions. Apparently you come out ahead with decent coin (for educators) since most of your living expenses are covered. Mrs. Sack met a couple who did this for 10 years. After 5 they were able to buy a nice lakehouse in Ithaca and summer here.
