...a state fair in Wisconsin.
And Hammer was playing there, but I don't think that had anything to do with it.

Hammer playing the fair circuit. Man, that's got to be rock bottom, eh?
I've only seen two concerts at fairs/festivals. Saw Eddie Money (long after he was popular) at the Ionia Free Fair, which is the biggest fair in west Michigan. Got backstage passes (he was staying at a resort my sister was a manager for at the time). Helluva nice guy.
ETA:
Ionia. FM. Iona is in NY.
Few years after that I found myself in Ontonagon, Michigan, during their Labor Day festival. If you're not familiar with Michigan, basically every city, town, village or dense unincorporated area has a festival. There's like 1,000 small town festivals during the year. A few pack in 50 or 100 K, but most are podunk affairs. Like Ontonagon Labor Festival - small parade, beauty pagent, three-on-three Gus Macker style ball tourney, pub crawl. BFD. At the end of said pub crawl, walked into a packed dive, and there was Eddie Rabbitt. Mr. "I Love a Rainy Night". Great show, but dang, how do you go from writing #1 songs for Elvis to playing in the Porcupine Mountains of the U.P. Seriously, the only reason Yoopers live up there is because they hate being around people.
But I miss those silly small town festivals. Been nostalgic for Michigan all summer.
