GM's thread about nothing (38 Viewers)

Kev > There are at least a half dozen good breweries in the area that can/bottle. Shiner is not one of them.ETA - Jester King, Austin Beerworks, St Arnold, Real Ale, Independence Brewing
I like Shiner Bock. And Blonde. And Ruby Redbird.
And that's fine. It's ok that you're not a 'beer guy.' I'm sure cosjobs would be shaking in his wine boots to know that I chugged another bottle of Rex Goliath Cabernet tonight. Just trying to steer proninja to something that might be appreciated by someone that's into craft brew.
Yeah, but Shiner has the history behind it. I don't think Kev was lobbying for its greatness as a beer, but for a LONG time that was THE beer to order in Texas. I don't recall Texas having a vast selection of micro-brews when I lived there and I'm sure it has changed, but Shiner has its place in Texas lore. And my god, I'm about to dump this Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale.

How in THE hell do you people on the East Coast watch sports and hold down full time jobs? It's almost midnight here and I've got a full half left of the Holiday Bowl. And the waiting for it to start...my god, the waiting.

Hi GM. Welcome to the thread. Proninja is a beer nerd. I was trying to provide suggestions that a beer nerd may enjoy. I'm pretty sure beer nerds from the northwest don't care about the place in Texas history for a particular beer. If it makes you feel better, I still drink a bunch of Lone Star, usually six packs of tall boys, and I always leave them in the plastic rings so that I'm drinking the last can with the evidence of his five fallen brothers in plain sight for all to see.

I want to second the selection of Jester King, Real Ale and Independence.

But at the same time, I am hording 12-packs of Shiner Cheer before they are all gone. I'm up to 144 bottles to take me through the spring, but still thinking another 10-15 12-packs should be bought this weekend.

I've been drinking a bit of Lone Star myself. I think they changed the recipe from last tiem I drank it ( decade or more ago). I also dig the camouflage cans, so I can drink stealthily

I had a giant Frito Pie with a bunch of Lone Star Tall Boys the rest of the night. I was not the most popular guy at Atones that night, good christ were those belches horrid.

Of course. Having a hell of a time finding the Pappy Van Winkle I was going to bring, might be the second runner up prize.

I haven't had 10 days off (nor a real vacatoon) in about four years. We usually close during the time between Christmas and New Years but each year has had a unique customer need that has called me in to work. I own the conpany so i while i dont always work 40 hours a week, work is on my mind constantly. So outside of thanksgiving (4 day weekend) i do not have any time during the year where I can count on having more than four successive days off. I worked hard all December to make sure I could take this week off, giving myself a 10 day vacation.

So, here I am.

And for the third night in a row, my girls have gone to bed and I am up drinking keystone and watching "the west wing" box set (my favorite show).

Just what I needed...

Love my job. Love my company. But I'm human and need a break from time to time.

No offense, but "don't always work 40 hours a week but have work on my mind constantly" doesn't sound particularly stressful. I think most of the working folks in this thread do work way more than 40 hours a week and have work on their mind a ton.

That's fair. One of the things I love most about my job is I go in when I want and leave when I want. I guess my big thing is that I never get a mental break from it and its nice to have a little time to myself. I'm enjoying myself.

Thirded. And if you're a soccer dork like me, there's something on during the weekends from the time you get up until 10 pm or so. Can't beat that. The only advantage of the East Coast is if you're up late on a weekend, you've got West Coast bases/hoops on until 1 AM or so.

Let's celebrate relaxing by watching
. Who can't feel good about watching a Japanese pop band hop around in fig leaves?

Named after pops Bentley so it makes sense.

Its diferent. They are both stress, but effing up the company or your boss is a different level than falling on the basket full of your own eggs

Gusher - where is lunchhole tomorrow? I just got home from the UC game, so there's a 25% chance I'm working from home tomorrow.

There's a 100% chance I'm working from home tomorrow, so can meet up anywhere. If you go into the office, I was going to suggest Eli's. if you're at home, what's good in between? Silver Spring House?

Bakersfield does lunch on Fridays, but that's neither close to home nor work. Senate too and they have bacon fat fries on Friday. Any suggestions

My son is still up and now watching some cartoon called Fanboy and ChumChum. It makes me think it came from the mind of LarryBoy if he was on acid, minus the dragons.

Merry belated Christmas (or what-have-you) to my fellow GMTANers. Hope you've all had a relatively stress-free and enjoyable time this last week. A few things:

1) Most importantly, I need to provide an update on my secret santa gift from Guster. I mentioned in my list of items that there was a knitted something-or-other in a plastic bag that I was afraid to open. Turns out, this was smart. Mr. YSR got home from TX on Saturday and on Sunday morning, he was going through all of the items that were still out on the table. He is the one who opened the bag and laid out what was, yes, an actual dickmitten. :lmao: Shortly thereafter, I got a PM from Guster confirming that you can, in fact, purchase these from etsy.

b) There may never be a better customer service than Zappos. Amazon is pretty up there, too.

#) There may never be a worse customer service than Comcast.

fore) I mentioned to Romo that I had sent in $$$ for a cosurukhole deposit. He would like to formally request that beach volleyball be added to the GM Olympics.

Anyone in here know anything about televisions?

From what I've gathered, LED > Plasma, but costs a bit more. I believe the greater the refresh rate, the better the quality also?

Anything else I should be looking for when comparing prices? Any one know of any companies running some good deals?

I've started looking into this (55', LED, at least 240hz), and am seeing anywhere from $1,200 - $3,500. Also, a lot of televisions still offering 3d? I'm not really interested in 3d but I mean, if it comes with it, it comes with it

I chuckled at him being stressed out by his sub 40 hour work week too, but unless you've ever been in a job that you don't really ever leave and is always on your mind, it's hard to understand how much that wears on you. Especially if you don't ever get a vacation.

For a brighter room, LED > PlasmaFor a darker room, Plasma > LED
