Goodbye Rams (1 Viewer)

The NFL is having a hard time lining up more than one temporary site in case two teams were to relocate to Los Angeles. The Coliseum is the only venue willing to house a team while a stadium was being built and has made it clear it wants one pro team. While this is a headache for the league, it's not a game changer. Some might surmise that, because there's only one such vacancy, it has to mean the St. Louis Rams are the franchise that will be given the green light to move.http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-la-nfl-coliseum-20150805-story.html
Looks like the NFL has their 2nd venue picked out for LA

Jason Cole ‏@JasonColeBR 6m6 minutes ago

Talked to a source in #Dodgers organization. Team would be willing to host #NFL team temporarily.

I'd be willing to bet the Chargers and Raiders file for re-location some time this Fall

My question here is how the hell can a city make (or even a judge rule that) its denizenship pay for a stadium they didn't even approve?? I'd be livid if I lived there.

The Citizens of St. Louis are still paying for the TWA Dome (now the Ed Jones Dome) that they voted to pay for about 20 years ago. The judge ruled that the tax can be extended without a vote. It's not a new tax. Just a tax that was about to expire that is being extended for this stadium. Still seems like dirty pool, but that's the reasoning...

I believe I heard the new stadium was going to be heavily funded by a tax on rental cars at the airport?

Hotel and rental car tax. It's mostly tourisms taxes. Won't effect the people of STL one bit. It's not a new tax either. They are re-financing the bonds. It's going to actually be a net gain for revenue's for STL according to the financial experts. It's a huge win for the city of STL. The unions are also heavily involved in the building of it. They are pushing hard for it too. Seems everybody is on board

Rams ain't going anywhere. Kroenke just wanted public funds from St.Louis and he got them
The stadium is expected to cost $998 million, $187 million of which would come from tax incentives under Missouri governor Jay Nixon's financial plan estimate.
Gee, a whole $187 million? I bet Kroenke can't wait to spend $800 million to keep the Rams in St. Louis now.

In comparison, Inglewood is offering upwards of $100 million in tax breaks.

He might not have a choice

He might not have a choice
The league is not going to push around the second wealthiest owner in the NFL.
If Kroenke wanted to go toe to toe with the NFL, he has the means to do so and probably win.

The biggest thing he has going against him is the other two cities appear to have nothing going for them.

If it came to a vote right now, I am almost certain the other NFL owners would vote for San Diego and Oakland to move. If it comes to that, I would expect Kroenke to fight. He wants to be in the LA Market.

Forcing him to stay and cough up roughly $400 million to a stadium he doesn't want to be in should be all the incentive he needs to fight.

If he wants to go, let him. If he takes the Rams back to LA purely for the money, then that is a match made in heaven. Enjoy California.

St. Louis has a loyal base of football fans that will embrace whomever comes here to St. Louis and if the Rams leave, then the Raiders or the Chargers are coming here. The brand new stadium will be here waiting for them along with a rabid sports fanbase.

At least St. Louis looks like it will have a team in the new stadium - Oakland looks like it could be left without pro sports entirely in the next few years and that would be a damn shame.

500 million from STL from the bonds

250 million in G4

150 million in PSL's

Naming rights

Sounds like it's nearly 1 billion in free money for Stan. He's only on the hook for 200 million

I thought I saw new projections that had Kroenke closer to $400 Mil. Either way, the city is still putting in a large piece on this stadium project.

Rams are GONE. Heard today that Kronke is giving the Nuggets and Avalanche to his wife to avoid the cross ownership rule. I only hope that his wife divorces him. That would be so great.

It should also be noted that at the stadium there are still big vinyl window decals of Sam Bradford and Jake Long up. They.Don't.Care.

It looks like this 20th year will be my last as a season ticket holder. Kind of looking forward to not having to put up with these a-holes any longer.

Kronke isn't going to pay for a stadium in STL....he's done with that town....they screwed up 3 years ago when he asked to re-do the dome and they offered 200 million when he needed 700 million
True but they really screwed up building the dome in the first place. Those were the plans to keep the Cardinals in town so the place was 10 years old already when they started construction. Then they really screwed up when they agreed to such ridiculous terms.

Kroenke is going to have a tough time getting the NFL to side with him over the Chargers and Raiders in Carson. 2 > 1

They've side with Kroenke on everything else, not sure why they would stop now. Pretty sure Kroenke leaves no matter what.

I dont think 3 teams will be in southern california so who gets left out?
Oakland probably

They forced him to sell his 2 Denver franchises to his wife and son, so no, they haven't sided with him on everything else

Too bad he won't have any control over the teams he gave to his wife and son. They really smacked him down there.

Has the City of Oakland shown any progress on a new Stadium? Seems to me that they are a lock to move, and the only question is whether they double up in Carson with the Chargers or at Hollywood Park with the Rams.

You missed the point. The point is, he had to follow their rules.

Finally received my season tickets on Saturday. Here's the real kicker, if I want playoff tickets, you know should a miracle happen, I would need to pay for them now.

On PFT there was an article by Jim Thomas of the local St. Louis paper. He is reporting from Oxnard, where they will have joint practices with the Cowboys Mon-Tues and their own Wed before the next preseason game.

Incidentally, there was also an article in PFT today in which Jerry Jones expressed his preference for the Inglewood site. He isn't an NFL spokesperson, but could be an influential voice as the most valuable franchise in the league (though not necessarily among the old guard). It also mentioned the Carson bid may be on "life support", and speculated that if the relocation fee plays a role in the decision process, that could favor Kroenke. Thomas, in his article, passed along rumors that the Rams may be scouting sites in the Thousand Oaks area for a permanent practice facility, and that the team has informed their equipment people they will be moving them West.

Yep, heard this months ago. I also understand everything at Rams Park is bar coded so it can be quickly and easily moved. THEY'RE GONE.

ETA

Kroenke has been meeting with Jones for some time about this and Jones wants them to move to L.A.

They finally took these down last week and put up a big Tavon Austin decal. :lmao: Kroenke and gang are just poking the monkey now.

Here are Austin's career stats:

71 receptions for 660 yards and 4 TD's.

How odd would it be if Kroenke uses the Raiders' win in court against the NFL to move his team to LA and leave the Raiders SOL?

I still don't understand, why would owners want SD to move?

http://fox5sandiego.com/2015/01/29/san-diego-ranks-as-5th-richest-city-in-u-s/

San Diego will be just fine if they can get a winning product on the field. I would have to assume there is a lot more money to be made in SD than St Louis long term.

Also not sure if the new numbers are out but both Oakland and San Diego with terrible teams have 3x operating income than St Louis.

http://www.forbes.com/nfl-valuations/list/

So again why wouldn't every owner want St Louis to lose their team out of these three?

By the way nothing against St Louis it's a very nice city but with KC 3 1/2 hrs, Chi 5hrs, Ten 4 1/2hrs there is a ton of teams from an NFL perspective to eat up that market. Would the NFL squeeze as much out of the area no but it would still be a sizable amount likely.

PFT also noted an article by Sam Farmer of the LA Times, that the NFL will probably have to "manage" the move to Los Angeles. There is speculation that the traditional method of owner ballots isn't going to be possible, as SD owner Spanos could have the nine votes needed to block the Rams, and conversely, STL owner Kroenke with the same requisite number to block the Chargers.

If the above is true, that could create a scenario where the SD/OAK axis is broken up, and the Raiders ultimately are on the outside looking on. In retrospect, maybe the unlikely, unholy alliance of SD/OAK was due to Spanos being threatened by the Rams (because the Chargers could always be #2 in popularity if the Rams are there, with a half century of history preceding a return), and that seemed like the most expedient and opportunistic way to block their return. With the Chargers known to get the probable first crack, knowing no more than two teams could relocate, and by linking SD/OAK and making them a package deal, strategically, it was a clever way to attempt blocking STL, IF that was Spanos intent.

I think the Carson site is located on top of a former toxic waste dump. What could go wrong? I can envision rabid, virulent, cannibal zombie fans like something out of World War Z or John Carpenter's The Thing. Event security will have to be armed with flame throwers. On the plus side, if mutants grow extra arms out of their heads, they can have a loudness advantage applauding - the 12.5th man.

Rabid, cannibal zombie fans armed with flame throwers, cheering their multiple heads off and waving their extra arms would be quite the distraction for the other team and especially any fans who consider travelling to support their team. Advantage: Carson.

Jim Thomas tweet (paraphrased):

Oxnard attendance Monday at the joint Cowboys/Rams training camp practices was 7,700+, reportedly 5.000 more than a recent Cowboys-only practice.

An NFL Network reporter noted the Rams fans were shouting down their Cowboys counterparts.

Same as it ever was. Last year's joint practice with the Raiders saw Raider fans outnumber Cowboy fans 25 to 1. Poor Cowboys...why don't they practice in San Antonio or Austin or something?

The weather is hard to beat. Grueling two a day practices are ancient history (not sure if Korey Stringer's memory had an impact?).

In a probably apocryphal story, for the Raiders practices, Oxnard LE may have deployed sniper towers.

Because spamos family wants southern california to be theirs. They have fans up in la already. Dont want to be left just in sd

Oxnard is a small two field facility adjacent to a Marriott Hotel, with a modest parking lot. It isn't equipped to host 100,000 people.

The lot filled up and many people were no doubt turned away.

What has been the average attendance in St. Louis, 1,100? Not sure where they practice there, Oxnard is about an hour drive North of LA.

I heard in St. Louis they aren't allowing Keep the Rams signs at training camp practices, but Kroenke had no problem with the Bring the Rams Back signs in LA (of course, probably that would be the call of Jerry Jones, but Kroenke could have had input).

I heard this too.

You have to remember that the majority of the Rams training camps haven't been held in St. Louis since they've been here.

There is also this think where they are moving, this thread was started 3 years ago, and Kroenke hasn't made a single comment that this might not be a possibility. He bought the Rams to move them to L.A. No doubt in my mind.

The Rams have been the worst franchise in sports the last 10 years with one of the worst owners. People have jumped through hoops to meet all of the NFL bylaws so they can't move so the NFL is (probably) just going to change those rules.

I feel the same way about the Rams as I did when the Big Red left, #### them.

Too bad Scottenheimer couldn't have been bar coded for quick and easy moving earlier.
:goodposting: :lmao:

The rumor around here the last 4-5 years is that Kroenke is pulling a "Major League" and trying to lose on purpose. This actually makes the most sense out of all of their moves.

Nah, the NFL WANTS Kroenke in L.A. It won't come to that.

I also hear talk of the Raiders coming to St. Louis. I don't want that either for a lot of reasons.
