Goodbye Rams (2 Viewers)

Nah, the NFL WANTS Kroenke in L.A. It won't come to that.

I also hear talk of the Raiders coming to St. Louis. I don't want that either for a lot of reasons.
You're probably right, but you never know.

I didn't quote it in my response, but I was considering the story that Farmer put out claiming Spanos/Davis have the votes needed to block a Rams move. There has been another story that Saints owner Benson actually asked during Kroenke's presentation why the NFL should help fund his stadium.

I think Kroenke is going to do everything possible to play by the rules as he'll certainly want the league funds and superbowl nominations and all that stuff. But if it gets to a vote and he gets shot down, I think he'll just move anyway. And the Raiders' win in court tells him he should be allowed to do that.

Too bad Scottenheimer couldn't have been bar coded for quick and easy moving earlier.
:goodposting: :lmao:

The rumor around here the last 4-5 years is that Kroenke is pulling a "Major League" and trying to lose on purpose. This actually makes the most sense out of all of their moves.

Rams are GONE. Heard today that Kronke is giving the Nuggets and Avalanche to his wife to avoid the cross ownership rule. I only hope that his wife divorces him. That would be so great.

It should also be noted that at the stadium there are still big vinyl window decals of Sam Bradford and Jake Long up. They.Don't.Care.

It looks like this 20th year will be my last as a season ticket holder. Kind of looking forward to not having to put up with these a-holes any longer.
Kroenke is going to have a tough time getting the NFL to side with him over the Chargers and Raiders in Carson. 2 > 1
They've side with Kroenke on everything else, not sure why they would stop now. Pretty sure Kroenke leaves no matter what.
How odd would it be if Kroenke uses the Raiders' win in court against the NFL to move his team to LA and leave the Raiders SOL?

The Raiders to STL have been gaining a little more steam.

I don't see it.

I don't see STL going anywhere.

At the need of the day, the city is going to do what is needed to keep them here.

And for the above commentor who said they thought Kroenke bought the Rams to move them and you think the same way that you did of the Bid Red.....STL had a chance 5 years ago to start the new building and they insulted a smart business man by offering 250 million for a 750 million stadium and offered him no profits off parking.

I am a die hard Rams fan but I am not going to throw all the blame at Kroenke.

It takes 2 to tango and the politicians had more than 1 chance to eliminate this day from ever getting here.

Still, end of the day, I think they stay #ihopeiamright #wishfulthinking #ihopeiamnotjustafan

This is definitely based on hope and not reality. The wheels are already turning for a Rams return to LA.

Not sure if the owners or anyone else will stop Kroenke from achieving his goal.

And while I can appreciate your love of the Rams in St. Louis, they are the "right" team of the 3 to return to LA from an historical standpoint. I'm not sure anything that StL could have done would have kept them there, but the town itself did no favors by stonewalling and trying to pressure the Rams to commit without any gain if they were serious about keeping them.

I think the Raiders in STL would be fascinating. It's probably the only team that STL would be an upgrade in its current facility footprint.

I know fans in St. Louis are pissed, but the Rams signed a deal requiring them to have a top stadium and St. Louis didn't want to pay for it until it was too late. IMO they played chicken with Kroenke and lost.

Same as it ever was. Last year's joint practice with the Raiders saw Raider fans outnumber Cowboy fans 25 to 1. Poor Cowboys...why don't they practice in San Antonio or Austin or something?
Well depending on how things pan out it could be Raiders fans shouting them down in San Antonio

I feel bad for StLB in all this :(

The NFL managing the move article is ominous.

I can see the appeal of doing St Louis and San Diego

1) No realignment needed.

2) Seems like it gets rid of the most blocking votes.

3) Screws the ghost of Al Davis one last time. I don't get the sense that Mark Davis is the most popular of owners amongst the NFL teams.

The 'solution' for the Raiders would end up being either:

1) take the St. Louis offer that's on the table or maybe a slightly better St. Louis offer. I think of all cities at risk, Oakland is in the weakest position in terms of battling the NFL. I realize that StL wants no part of Davis and Co. (and I don't blame him) but there would be the consolation prize of Chiefs-Raiders rivalry games each year with a Missouri backdrop. Oddly, the Chargers get sorta screwed here b/c they will have even more games out of their time zone but that might be the price the NFL imposes on them.

2) Take the Raiders to San Antonio. Same problem for the Chargers as #1 in terms of time zone. This is a solution, though, that might not be to Jerry Jones' liking.

3) Work out with Oakland - I have a hard time fathoming this, at least in terms of the NFL partners deciding to pony up the $ to make this happen - and I really don't think Davis and Oakland work it out by themselves.

You're right.....the city balked at Kroenkes amount that he wanted to re-do the Dome....now it may be too late...

.Kroenke snatches land in Inglewood and then what happens?........the city of STL knew they were in trouble and started a secret Commision a couple years ago to start working on a new stadium....hahahahaha

........toooo late......looks like the Season TIX I lost in Anaheim in 1994 may be soon found again on the streets of Inglewood....oh....and my friends got autographs at the scrimmage yesterday from Jared Cook in which he signed.......LA Rams !!!!
:useless:

By the way nothing against St Louis it's a very nice city but with KC 3 1/2 hrs, Chi 5hrs, Ten 4 1/2hrs there is a ton of teams from an NFL perspective to eat up that market. Would the NFL squeeze as much out of the area no but it would still be a sizable amount likely.
 The St. Louis area is the 19th largest in the country which means they are in 13 smaller markets. Yeah, why would the NFL want to be here. ;)

Yes and no. Where they REALLY screwed up, besides the original contract of course, is when the Rams violated the agreement by playing that game in London without the permission of the city. St. Louis held all of the cards and could have stuck it to them. I'm not a lawyer but I think they could have forced the Rams to renegoitiate a whole new deal at that time, just as the Rams are citing one violation, to leave. Instead they fell for a wink and a handshake deal that the Rams would remember this and wouldn't leave. Idiots have been running this place my whole life. So frustrating. :wall:

Thanks GB.

I hear no way the Raiders are coming to St. Louis. I did hear that the owner (Davis?) agreed to sell the Raiders last Friday night but then reneged Saturday morning. The plan was to move them to San Antonio.

I also hear that it's a possibility that Jacksonville moves to St. Louis. Shah Khan is the owner and who Kroenke c-blocked from buying the Rams.

I've just had it with the NFL and the way they do business in general. It isn't like they aren't raking in billions a year. Yet they feel the need to extort cities for new stadiums. Yeah, I get business, supply and demand and all that. This isn't some manufacturing facility though, this is something that the entire population of any given city identifies with.

What really strikes me too is how attendance at games seems to be falling. It seemed like every MNF game last year, including places like Pittsburgh, had a noticeable amount of empty seats. Now the TV ratings are as strong as ever but I think most fans these days would rather watch Red Zone or go to a bar so they can keep up on their FF team and/or it's A LOT less expensive.

Then throw in the noticeable changes in the game from 20-25 years ago plus lawsuits from the players and all of the concussion awareness. Maybe the NFL has peaked?

It's an insult to put a quarter of a billion into a 15 year old stadium? Really? There's one reason and one reason only the Rams asked for 750 million in improvements and refused to negotiate on what was proposed, they knew it was impossible for St. Louis to agree to and it freed them from the lease. Period.

When you offer it more than 3 years after it was originally asked for.

Did you miss where this is a discussion between SD, Oakland, and St. Louis? Out of SD/Oakland vs St. Louis who has more money in their respective markets?

Now St. Louis could look to steal another cities team but I am specifically talking about this current situation.

Did you also miss where the RAMs were 26th out of 32 teams in operating profit in 2014? They only beat out the VIkings, Lions, Dolphins, Chiefs, Bengals, Falcons....

Also St. Louis is the 21st GDP of all US Cities behind both the Oakland and San Diego metro areas

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._metropolitan_areas_by_GDP

Again I like St. Louis personally (live in Wisconsin) but in this argument they lose. Its like saying who is the all time best QB, doesn't mean Marino is not great he just isn't as great as a couple others. If you want to argue population than you are going to run into real issues as places like Green Bay (gets to count all of Wisconsin), Pittsburgh (gets to count a lot of Pennsylvania), Nashville (counts all of Tennessee), and so on....

Just for kicks though take a look at this list:

Nobody in their right mind would sink hundreds of millions into the dome.
But that was choice the city had.

From Bob's OP:

Marc Ganis, a sports consultant who helped negotiate the lease on behalf of the Rams, said the plan unveiled today is one that comes as close as possible to satisfying the first-tier language without building a new facility from scratch.

"This appears to be a logical, feasible plan that's meant to get a positive result," said Ganis, president of the Chicago-based SportsCorp Ltd., consulting firm. "This isn't a pie-in-the-sky plan designed to get to an impasse... It looks to me like a sincere effort to get a deal done."

Ganis, who said he has no current business relationship with the Rams or the CVC, said the Rams' plan is well-suited to the Dome's location. It's not a cookie-cutter design plan, he said, and it would create "an iconic facility" for far less than the cost of building from scratch.

"This results in a really good and modern football stadium that's pretty much on the same footprint of the original," Ganis said. "A new stadium is going to cost well over $1 billion. This looks like it would be roughly half of what a new stadium would cost."

That was 3 years ago and time has shown that his opinion, at the time was wrong. How do I know? The Rams made -zero- attempts to try and find something that would work for both parties. None. They wanted almost a billion dollars of improvements, done their way and without input from the CVC or they were leaving. Does that really sound like somebody that wanted a deal to work or were they just asking for something they knew was an impossibility?

I really don't understand why you care so much though. If you're in L.A. and want them, all power to you and them. I've never had a women leave me for another man but if I did, I wouldn't beg them to come back. GTFO, the love is gone. I would have rather it turned out different but it didn't. Hell, I've spent most of the games the last 5-6 years rooting for the visiting team because I've had money on them.

From a business perspective, the Rams are a miserable organization, and as I stated above, part of a miserable company to keep extorting their fans with the threat of leaving to get what they want. The business model has been working but it isn't going to be that way forever. They're killing the golden goose IMO.

So I was sitting next to Howard Balzer last night, judging a wing contest. He said that when Carmen Policy went in and gave their presentation, he showed all the highlights of what it would be like in Carson City. The stadium, the features and benefits, etc. And when the Rams went in there, all they did was complain how it just doesn't work in St. Louis, which is a flat out lie. The deal in St. Louis has been so good it's the reason the Titans are in Tennessee and the Ravens were in Baltimore. Both of those teams were looking for "St. Louis type deals."

He said that one of the Sr NFL execs pulled him aside and asked why it was so bad in St. Louis the last couple seasons. Balzer explained that the owner has done nothing but hint at a move and then overtly plan a move since he bought the team and thus fans are not renewing/buying season tickets the way they have in the past and corporate sponsorship is way down too.

He said that Kroenke thought this move would be easy and never expected the city to come together so quickly on a plan. The Raiders and the Chargers have no plan whatsoever in SD or Oakland. No chance for a stadium there. St. Louis has secured funding, land, architect drawings, etc. Balzer said the best path for everyone involved is SD and the Raiders to LA and the Rams stay in St.Louis. Everyone that is but Stan Kroenke.

He also said that the NFL wants the right kind of owner in LA and this has been stated many times and most people assume that to mean a very rich owner which is not the case. They want someone who is going to engage the community and embrace LA. That's not Kroenke.

He said that he expects the NFL to block the Rams move to LA and grant it to the Chargers and Raiders and then he expects Kroenke to move the team anyway, but not necessarily to LA. Balzer said he just doesn't picture Kroenke standing in front of the media and saying, "All the stuff about California was just a negotiating ploy to get the powers that be in St. Louis to build a new stadium. I've wanted to be here all along." He said he just can't picture that happening and I agree.

By choosing Carson over Inglewood

Balzer is a blow hard......Carmen Policy is nothing but a pitchman for an environmentally unfriendly waste land....Kroenke is an actual owner that got up there and proposed a viable stadium plan for LA....no one in LA wants the Chargers and Spanos knows that ....he's living a dream.....and STL will be conveniently supplied a new team if they do build a new stadium.....soooooo

here it is boys,

Rams to LA.....99.999999% sure

Chargers stay in SD with new Stadium

STL gets a new team or JAX moves there .. IF they build a stadium ( which I DOUBT)

and the Raiders......they will be moving in with the 49ers
Rumor has it most of the other owners are squarley in spanos corner.

In his effort to get a new stadium, or in his effort to move to LA ?

I think Kroenke has the upper hand here bigtime. St Louis, unfortunately, will be left without

a team, unless the city gives the next prospective team, the deal they weren't willing to give to Kroenke.

The Raiders are pretty desperate and could jump at the deal St. Louis is offering the Rams.

Agree about the Rams and Chargers.

Even though the Raiders moving in with the 49ers makes sense, if Mark Davis is anything like his dad he's going to want his own stadium and not just be a tenant. If he can't get any city to offer stadium funding then he's going to have to go the tenant route - either with the 49ers or LA Rams.

Buying season tickets if this happens....huge cards fan here, so the ability to see all the division games with an improving team is all i need to pull the trigger.

Not so fast department - The Missouri executive and judicial branches have tried to run an end around maneuver on local and state opposition to use public funds for a polarizing new stadium initiative (whereas owner Kroenke would use his own funds for the proposed Inglewood site in Los Angeles), though PFT reports the legislative branch could present future obstacles from several fronts. If so, that could throw a monkey wrench in the proponent's expedited timeline that might be necessary to keep the team in St. Louis.

It's too late. The Governor is going to issue the bonds regardless. If they fail to make the payments on them, they will destroy the states credit rating, which will never happen.

No Charger fans are going to drive the 5 freeway to the games in Carson from SD !!!!......and there is no Charger fans in LA..............Spanos knows his fanbase..........It's all a ploy to get a new stadium in SD...and how would they share a stadium with their arch enemy?....stupid all the way around

if Spanos wants to come to LA....he needs to ride on Kroenkes coattails....Kroekes Stadium will have 2 home team everything....locker rooms....meeting rooms....offices, etc....plus a huge area for the NFL Network to camp out and set up studio !!!
Spanos has burned the bridge on the way out of SD. He's not going back. It's not a ploy. They aren't even trying to put together a plan to get a stadium done in SD. There is no going back to SD.

Guess what. There were no Rams fans in St. Louis when they came in 1995. Any football team that lands in LA is going to have immediate fans. Football fans that love football and are happy to have a team. Spanos knows people from SD aren't driving up to the games in LA and he doesn't care. He's got potentially 3 million new fans there and what will be a very lucrative stadium deal. Were there enough Oiler Fans in Tennessee for the Oilers to move? Or Ravens fans in Baltimore? This is a ridiculous argument.

Bob Costas was on the new Bernie Miklatz show here in St. Louis yesterday. He said the best move for the NFL and everyone involved is for the Rams and Chargers to go to LA and for the Jags to move to St. Louis. He stated while Shad Khan is spending a ton in Jacksonville, the market just can't sustain an NFL team. I caught a repeat of this interview and didn't hear all of it. No mention of where the Raiders would go in what I heard.

My guess:

1. Chargers and Rams to Los Angeles

2. Raiders stay in Oakland until the NFL forces Mark Davis to sell the Raiders. NFL owners believe Davis is going to have to sell the team eventually to settle financial issues, so why move the team until that is settled.

3. After Davis sells, the new ownership decides what to do with the Raiders, either build a new stadium in Oakland or move, whatever.

There is absolutely no truth to Mark Davis selling the Raiders.

In fact Davis offered to pay $500MIL to finance a $900MIL stadium 55,000 seat stadium.

There are no financial issues which will force Mark Davis to sell the Raiders.

None.

How can the NFL justify moving the Chargers but not the Raiders? San Diego city govt is moving mountains to get a stadium project moving, while Oak isn't even trying.

Oh good. Now. Costas is an ####### in sports besides baseball.

He said "the best move"? I'd think he would think the best move is what's best for St. Louis, his hometown.

In a way this makes sense and has been mentioned before, but there's zero reason for Khan personally to move to StL, even though conceptually (in terms of regional alignment) it solves "everything."

Sorry, he specifically said that taking out the fact that he would like football in his home town, he feels this is the best for everyone.

Kahn is from Champaign Illinois (about 3 hours away). At least for the last few decades. He bid on the Rams when Georgia died and Kroenke exercised his right of first refusal and matched the offer. The reason for Kahn to move out of Jacksonville is that the city can't support a team. It's just not big enough. Moving the team to St. Louis which can most definitely support a team, no matter what Kroenke says, would make sense as a destination in terms of Geography for Kahn and in terms of an established fanbase that can support teams...

Yeah, Costas has no insight on any other sports other than Baseball. Says a guy worried his team might be moving out of town.

Chargers and Raiders to Carson and Rams remaining in STL with their new stadium makes the most sense. All three teams get a new stadium

It's not just about a new stadium. It's also about a huge revenue stream for whomever is in LA. The Rams, Chargers, or Raiders will make more money in LA than their respective cities.

i agree. HUGE PSL and corporate money for them. I just think the Chargers and Raiders should have first option to that market. It's not all about making Kronke more money.

It is to Kroenke

I don't think enriching Kroenke will come into play when the league votes. The improtant factor is deciding which project helps the most teams. Carson + STL = 3 teams get new stadiums

Kroenke doesn't have to abide by what the league votes. Other owners have moved without the consent of the league. And the guy is the second richest if not richest owner in the league. The most they can do is fine the guy and there is really no way to hurt the guy financially. They could possibly take draft picks, but then that's punishing the fans of the Rams.
