Yep, GTA III was huge for that generation and I still remember playing it for the first time. It had so many good ideas.Still not many more influential and critically acclaimed PS2 games then GTA 3

Wouldn't this be more of a fighter or sports game?3.01 Mike Tyson Punch-Out (Hack & Slash/Beat em Up) NES Version
It is a good question. I can see it not being a fighter since 2 people cant fight head to head but I dont think this falls into a hack and slash/beat em up.Wouldn't this be more of a fighter or sports game?3.01 Mike Tyson Punch-Out (Hack & Slash/Beat em Up) NES Version
Boxing is a sport, as I recall. Since boxing is technically fighting, I could see an argument for fighter, but I've never seen it called as such. As madshot mentioned before, fighting games usually consist of 2 players (sometimes more) fighting one another on the screen in an arena for several rounds, such as the previously taken Street Fighter II. However, beat em ups usually contain multiple enemies that you must fight before you can advance by side-scrolling on to the next screen or area.Wouldn't this be more of a fighter or sports game?3.01 Mike Tyson Punch-Out (Hack & Slash/Beat em Up) NES Version
I played tons of DnD in the early 80's... I know my RPG's for sureI hope he's already done his homework. I can just imagine the wait for the results. "Wait, I haven't finished playing the games to make a final judgement. Give me... umm.. a couple of years." In fact, better him than me. Urgh.I can tell you one thing, jwb is going to have a crazy time judging the RPGs.

I would argue that the versions were not different enough to matter. Nice pick, btw.It goes in Role Playing, so it's just (XBox, PC). That's how I'd label it. Either way, it's sixth gen.PC or Xbox?2.11 - Knights of the Old Republic - Role PlayingMy favorite game ever. And my favorite Star Wars story too.I'm headed out for the night so if it somehow gets back to me, we're stuck.

This is my thought on the subject. I can see people considering it a fighter or a beat em up, but it fits Sports, arcade, or its generation much better imo. I am trying not to restrict peoples selections on the games categories(already there has been things placed in places I consider crazy) if they can defend them in the slightest. But the one thing you have to keep in mind is when placing your games in certain categories is do you think the judge of that category views the game is in the proper spot? Say a fantastic game is placed is a debatable category, if I was a judge I would consider a lesser game higher in the ranking just because it "fits" the genre better.Regarding Mike Tyson---I can see someone arguing it as a fighter or hack em game but to be honest it would not rank that high in those categories to me. As a sport game though it would be near the top.
I know, most games it does not matter, its just on some it does and I'm trying to keep some consistency.I would argue that the versions were not different enough to matter. But see my post above this one for a bit of info on that.It doesn't matter to me what decided on the classification. I took it off my list either way.Boxing is a sport, as I recall. This makes my personal debate much easier. For me in the RPG category it is: More mainstream but weaker imo vs Lesser known but damn good.I want to state something about RPG's... We're talking about the BEST in the genre here, not the first or the one you played for hours as a kid. Not going to say which, but some already picked are probably better placed in their respective console generation category than they are RPG's.
No problem, I can see us changing categories quite a bit as we have some of our picks fall for good value, which allows for greater flexibility. On the Punch Out stuff, I originally posted it without a category because I was debating with myself where i belonged. So I just went with a quick pick. It will most likely change. I picked Hack and Slash/Beat em up, because madshot had stated that category as a button masher, and I vaguely remember having minor forms of carpal tunnel after playing that game. Def a button masher. Anyways the category will most likely change, just didnt want to have it out there w/o a category.
every pick made right now should fall into at least 2 categories (its generation and its genre), so we all should have a ton of flexibility...if anything I have the least since I picked two SNES RPGs, but at least they both qualify for "Best Story"...No problem, I can see us changing categories quite a bit as we have some of our picks fall for good value, which allows for greater flexibility. On the Punch Out stuff, I originally posted it without a category because I was debating with myself where i belonged. I agree. I don't agree with the categorization either. I may change it depending on what I pick later on. Personally, I don't care how I score in the draft. If I wanted to technically pick the best games, I could do that, but that would be boring. I want to pick my favorite games, depending on what's available. If I haven't played it, I won't draft it, regardless of how many publications have given it game of the decade. I'll do my best though. I'm not gonna pick Super Beach Ball 3000 just because I used to beat my brother at it all the time 20 years ago.Yea, I knowI'm just messin' with ya. But see my post above this one for a bit of info on that.
Yep, the main reason why I have you guys pick a category and platform right now is so I don't have to input 351 picks into your team's category selections at the end. Add on another 351 selections in the category specific section because I like to see the trends and sleepers in those. It would all be too much to compile at the end.every pick made right now should fall into at least 2 categories (its generation and its genre), so we all should have a ton of flexibility...if anything I have the least since I picked two SNES RPGs, but at least they both qualify for "Best Story"...No problem, I can see us changing categories quite a bit as we have some of our picks fall for good value, which allows for greater flexibility. On the Punch Out stuff, I originally posted it without a category because I was debating with myself where i belonged. I just realized we had 2 main character spots to fill...making the problem with the Samus pick a mute point.

Read above, Samus problem was actually how it was intended and was a misunderstanding.I just realized we had 2 main character spots to fill...making the problem with the Samus pick a mute point.
Sorry for the lack of writeup (did this pick from my phone). This was a tough one for me with all the great games to be picked from, but had to go VBD here.Looking at a bunch of online lists of top 100 games and you get completely different top 10 lists. Looking at a bunch of worst ever lists and one game is at the top of all of them - the highly anticipated, big dollar, big bust ET for the Atari 2600.2_8 ET (worst game)
I don't think I'll be recategorizing ET at any point.every pick made right now should fall into at least 2 categories (its generation and its genre), so we all should have a ton of flexibility...

I got the game for Christmas that year. I actually liked it. Yeah. I did. Of course, yeah, it does suck, but for an Atari 2600 game, it is a game that you can actually beat. That was rare. I find it funny how many people I watch today try to play the game that tear it apart that just don't play it right. They drop in a pit and can't get out. It's not that hard. Don't get out on the top or bottom. Get out on the sides. Anyway. This is me saying that I think the game gets a bad rap. There are worse games out there. I can probably name at least 10 games worse than ET. More if I can count browser games. But Atari really flubbed up by ordering so many of them. But there was another game that Atari made the same mistake with....Sorry for the lack of writeup (did this pick from my phone). To quote The Three Amigos, this game was so famous, it was INfamous.
To quote PC World:
"Amazingly, E.T.'s story doesn't end there. In 1983, faced with literally millions of unsold and returned E.T. games added to its already sizeable inventory of unusable cartridges, Atari opted for an environmentally unfriendly (some would say downright hostile) solution: The company dumped them into a city landfill in Alamogordo, New Mexico, where they were crushed, buried, and later covered in a layer of cement. The incident was reported in the New York Times and prompted protests and legislation from city officials."
I could have gone with a top game and hoped the judge ranked things the same way I did, but I went with the almost sure thing. The only game that imediately came to mind when I saw the category.

ET is an infamous game... But, really, its just somewhat confusing and mediocre...some popular roleplaying games are really, really good. Some more well-known than others. And there are some real hidden gems (across all generations and platforms)I would say that except for the wildcard categories, role playing is going to be one of the most subjective. And the one where the 12th pick can conceivably grab the top spot. This makes my personal debate much easier. I do admit, there are some that are picked/sure to be picked that I don't personally love, but are regarded highly enough that I can't ignore that fact. And my personal favorite probably doesn't deserve the top spot. I'll be stern, but fairYep, I could see my personal top 5 RPGs not being pick in this draft. 3.03 - Bioshock - Seventh Generation (2005-Present) Coolest environment ever for a video game (I love Art Deco), great setup in an Ayn Randian world, awesome story, great graphics, and scary as hell. And KOTOR is for the Xbox.

I hate you. And I quote from earlier when I was talking to Manback on xbox live about this. Manback - Madshot, when you taking Bioshock? That's your game.Me - I'm taking it in the third round, it will be there...3.03 - Bioshock - Seventh Generation (2005-Present) Coolest environment ever for a video game (I love Art Deco), great setup in an Ayn Randian world, awesome story, great graphics, and scary as hell. And KOTOR is for the Xbox.

Best game in over a decade imo.Regarding Bioshock---This is a prime example of what I was talking about when I said I would get schooled in the newer stuff of this draft. The pick is considered a great pick, which I am sure it is....however, I have never even heard of that game.
But ET the game was not nearly as bad as people say. It was actually high tech for the Atari, its just their CEO decisions is what made it get a bad rap.ET was even better because IIRC, Atari actually produced more copies of the game than there were Ataris in use in the US at the time - they expected the popularity of ET to literally spur sales. It's the game that really was the tipping point for the collapse.

I'd say it's one of the best games in the last decade. I can't call it the best game this decade. It's certainly hit or miss. Either you love it or hate it. Still, given its legacy and history, it's an easy top 3 "worst game" for me. I had it in mind with two others for "worst game" in the clear top 3, but I don't think I'm judging that one.But ET the game was not nearly as bad as people say. FYI for East coast guys, the servers die every night from 3:00AM-3:30AMish EST.Ok, who broke the server?
That explains stuff. I am totally dead tired right now. I probably should go to bed.FYI for East coast guys, the servers die every night from 3:00AM-3:30AMish EST.Ok, who broke the server?
I like this one more than Ocarina of Time. In fact, i think its far superior and this is one of my favorite games ever played.I might speed run Zelda 1, but Zelda 3 is to Zelda 1 what Mario 3 is to Mario 1, IMO...3.04 The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - SNES (Action/Adventure)
This game is IMO the second best Zelda game behind Ocarina of Time. This Zelda built on what was a classic from the NES and launched the franchise into the new generation of gaming. The hookshot, multi level dungeons, and parallel worlds were first introduced in this game. To this day it still looks and plays great.
