Greatest Video Game Draft 2011 (1 Viewer)

Alright, this pick is based on innovation and moving gaming forward. There are a couple of categories it could go in and while Arcade might be the category it should go in, it makes me wonder if I should put it into the Puzzle category because, essentially, it is one long puzzle of memorization and timing. That is a puzzle after all, in a way. That said, this game was a huge quarter cruncher and there were lines to play it when it came out. If a game creates lines at an arcade, that is something. Also, this game moved away from sprites and onto a disc. Using animation rather than bitmaps to create a game was innovative and something the future as we now know it, seems normal. This game has been ported onto nearly every system and can now be played on your phone without having to insert a quarter. This game is huge.

regarding my 1943 pick---please place that in my fighter category. I assume this type of game qualifies for this category, if not go ahead and put it in flex.comment--- I was super addicted to this game. The various weapon upgrades and overall play was just awesome for the time.
I think fighter is more for one on one fighting games such as Street Fighter 2 and Soul Calibur as opposed to an actual fighter plane like in 1943.
I thought it might be that way (guess we missed a category to draft). If that is the case I am perfectly happy putting this in my flex category...It was/is an awesome game.
Yep, fighter are based off of 1v1 fist to face action mainly.
I am against locking picks...we should have the right to make adjustments as the draft progresses. Then again I am just happy that I have made 5 picks and none were ridiculed.
We won't lock the categories, just try and place them generally where you want them. I just don't want to have and move 200 games at the end.

Well, I'm going to bed. I usually sleep later than 8am (10 or so). If my pick comes up and I'm not around, someone PM me and my phone will let me know.

Got everything up to date to this point.

Just a reminder that the draft clock is changing,

Draft Clock: 8AM-5PM EST Weekdays, 1 hour per pick with consecutive skips happening automatically.

Also, if you don't see the person following you in the thread, toss them a simple PM.

Dragon's Lair Remember, this was an arcade game from 1983. I have to admit, though. It's more fun to watch people mess up in the game than to watch someone play through perfectly.

I was looking through this thread, shocked that these 2 hadn't been picked yet. I think you just got 2 borderline first round quality games at the 5/6 turn.

I think I can finish this draft by taking games that I've actually played. Might not score very high, but would be an interesting exercise.

Or am I shortchanging the draft if I do that?

I am only taking games I have played. Just doesn't feel right going by nerd cred alone.

 It will get tough at the end but I think I can do it. Could care less if I end up in last place. Just like drafting

I am going with another coin-op that helped change gaming as well. World of Warcraft was on my radar but not a real fan of it overall. This is one of the original coin-ops that took your coins quickly and people loved plugging them into the machine. Not only that but people could play together to achieve greater goals and not only that but people could play four at a time. This game is still quoted today and the ports of this game also include most systems as well as phones. This is a definite arcade classic however it could be in other categories as well. I think they should remake this game because it was simple, fun, and kept people playing. Too bad the arcades are gone.

Yo Mama has been awesome at PMing me. Can you do it again today. I have a snow day and am home so it will alert me from my phone

Thanks

Time to grab my 1st main character----At 6.3 I select Sonic the Hedgehog. This was the character for the face of Sega, they made several games with him, he did cartoons, he is in the walk of game with Mario and Link, etc,etc...but most importantly my son named his turtle after him. (it ran away)

I had considered him for my next. He's certainly ubiquitous. Never cared much for the Sonic games, though. But the new one for the Kinect is supposed to be pretty fun.

Game was remade for the consoles. Not talking the older version either. Check out the updated version on PS2. I don't think its spotlighting cause its basically the same game with better graphics.

Great arcade picks on the turn for me. Dragon's Lair was one of the main reasons I wanted to go to Chuck E Cheese all the time, don't know how many tokens went in that game, but it was fun watching just as much as playing. Graphics were like nothing that I had seen up to that date. Gauntlet was crazy for it's day, I remember groups of people surrounding the machine, and if someone died, there was always somebody to jump in. It never mattered if you knew the other 3 guys or not....(I miss Aladdin's Castle)

I just found all my NES games and my case. I seem to be missing a few which is sad since I have no idea where they could be

On a side note, how can you be named Mario Kart and not take Super Mario Kart!!!
VBD = 10th round
No way. Super Mario Kart invented a sub-genre and was an excellent racer on its own. The amount of time I've invested in that game is ridiculous. Not to mention the sheer joy of finding out that there is a special cup and 150cc. Winning on Special Cup, 150cc was one of the greatest experiences Ive had in my preteen years. Won on the last turn with a mushroom over the gap to pass princess. Just barely stayed on the track on the curve. Won the cup by 2 points. HUGE rush!!!Game deserved its draft position.

FUI really wanted to team up Duke Nukem with Sonic!

Their personalities would have been similar

Madshot i accept the trade but would prefer Portal over Donkey Kong (Portal was drafter later so you probably would prefer this)

Going Mario wild!

Trade offer was:

My Super Mario Bros. 3 (1.04), Donkey Kong - Main Character (4.10), (11.04), and (16.10)

for

Your (6.12), (7.02), (9.02), and (13.02)

Hey guys. I'm here. I see that Super Mario Kart was taken. Just for clarification, does that take the other Mario Karts off the table?

Yes, all other Mario Karts are off the table. Sports and racing games can only be chosen once per franchise.

That's disappointing. Mario Kart 64 was leap years better than Super Mario Kart. The Mode 7 technology in the SNES version just makes my head hurt to play that one anymore. But for the time, yes, there wasn't anything like it.

I would think MarioKart 64 is a significantly different game though. Same with other MarioKart games. I actually liked MarioKart64 less than Super MarioKart.

I hate to say it but out of everything he got wrong in his rankings he actually got that one right sorry Andy.(That is just my opinion though)
Again, it depends on what you define as "greatest". Not only is 2k5 better than Madden, so is Tecmo Super Bowl, at least in terms of enjoyment.I think the primary gauge of how good a game is is how fun it is. If you grew up playing video games, you know that TSB is one of the most fun games ever.

And I'm still picking MY favorite games anyway, not ones that I think are other people's favorites.
Well then that's a whole different story, your list, your favorites pretty hard to argue with you then lol. I did grow up playing games though and if I'd known I was gonna be slow at work this week I woulda been in this damn thing but alas all I can do is participate in the debate.
