7.9 Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, 5th gen, PSX
:goodposting: Wow, I can't believe the best video game I've ever played lasted over 7 rounds.
I'm back. That took longer than expected.I thought about taking this earlier, but tested to see how long it would last. It paid off on this one, unlike others I waited on, but you can't have every game. My writeup on it is coming up.

5.08 Halo 3 - XBOX 360 - best multiplayer
:goodposting: I can't believe the original Halo was drafted after Halo 3. It was pretty big in the evolution of console FPS. Like Goldeneye it had hours of playability with friends but you could LAN them so it was a little better. I realize consoles are years behind PC but the majority of kids were console gamers. It essentially brought FPS to the masses. Even MS didn't realize how big the multiplayer was going to be. They thought the campagin would be a bigger deal, which was pretty awesome as well. The huge interest in multiplayer LAN caused MS to alter it's plan for H2 and use it to sign up a millions of people for XBL, which wasn't too popular at first.H3 was the 3rd best game in the series imo. H1, Reach, H3, H2 in that order. If you were near college age during the life of the original Xbox you undoubtedly spent quite a bit of time playing this game. I remember severl friends getting in fights with gf's and even breaking up over Halo.
I'll add that Halo (although I believe it's overrated) did perfect FPS controls on a console and that's why I rank it so high, much higher than Goldeneye. Being a PC FPS fan playing Goldeneye was a pita. While there is still a learning curve playing FPS on console controller even today when you're used to playing mouse+keyboard, it's still 1000x better than it was on the N64. And can anyone tell me why ... nevermind. I can't ask this. The game hasn't been drafted yet.

In my opinion the controls to Goldeneye on N64 were flawless. The way they sculpted the controller almost made it seem like it was made specifically for games like Goldeneye. The turning, spinning, straffeing (sp?), etc. Goldeneye is easily in my top 5 of all time though. It was Halo back then, without online play.

What Controller style did everyone use for Goldeneye?I believe "Honey" was the default.

"Solitare" was absolute money.

my writeup for my last pick.

7.9 Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, 5th gen, PSX

There isn't many series in gaming as beloved as the Castlevania series. But when Castlevania revamped the series in Symphony of the Night, the series got taken to a whole new level.

Combining action-adventure and RPG elements, you explored the castle, gained experience, weapon drops, all while defeating awesome bosses along the way. And the game had multiple endings. To play it to the complete final ending, not only did you have to explore the entire castle, but you had to do it again UPSIDE DOWN. And it was bad ###!

What was once just a linear action game to advance from level to level, turned into a full massive exploration experience and it hasn't looked back. Every 2D Castlevania game made after Symphony of the Night has adopted the same style. This style is now known as Metroidvania. What's that pick 3.9? Yeah, that's right.

Intro -

Forgot to mention: For those who haven't played it on the original Playstation. You can find the game for about $10 or 800 MSP on PSN or XBLA.

I disagree, Halo 3 redefined the multiplayer experience on XBOX 360 and is by far superior to Halo in that category. If I was drafting in the FPS category I might of picked Halo first

It depends on how you define multiplayer; "Online multiplayer" where you're more likely to be playing against strangers or "Local multiplayer" where you're playing against or with your friends. Also, remember that multiplayer can also mean "Co-Op". That's why Rock Band qualifies.

Great Round 6. A lot of my personal favorites went that round.

But I'm a bit sad that the game that wrecked my college dating life hasn't been drafted yet.

Hmmm...I thought Duke Nukem was a reach and don't really think of Donkey Kong as a villain (but obviously understand the reasoning). Also, never played ESPN NFL 2K5, but I don't see how any football game could be better than Madden.

That's like eating only broccoli and wondering how ice cream could taste better than broccoli.
If there's no way any football game could be better than Madden, then there's no reason for EA to lock up the right to exclusively make NFL games for the next 6+ years on the exact year that Take Two (2K) kicks their ### on the virtual grid iron. Just saying.

I LOL'ed...good stuff. I'll have to check it out on YouTube.
If you have a 360, it's backwards compatible via software download. Of course if you have PS2 or XBox, they work on those too.

Donkey Kong was straight up evil. Was petrified of him and his bulky legs as a kid. I felt Duke was not going to last to me on the way back and how many more characters are more well known then Duke Nukem? I actually was debating between Duke,Croft, and Sonic and went with my favorite. As for ESPN vs Madden, its not even CLOSE.NFL 2K5 came out 7 years ago and had many features that it took Madden years to implement and still cant match. First off they gave you the option to play first person football, through the eyes of a linebacker or Safety or whomever, this was just another option if you didnt like it you could just use regular view. There was so much depth to the game. In franchise mode we would get weekly Sportscenter style updates to weekly games with real highlights, was awesome. Also we had a crib we could pimp out and the game came out at 20 BUCKS. a brand new game with incredible reviews for 20 bucks? thats unheard of, but they wanted to make a huge dent in Madden's market and get people to switch over. It would have worked except for the NFL's exclusivity deal with NFL which killed gaming and since then MLB followed them in these deals which just suck the competition away

That doesn't mean anything. When you add Mario 1 and Mario 3 together and divide by 2 you just get 2 Mario 2's. :gang1:
Mario 2 was like the brother who was given away and mom and dad never speak about until you are 21

7.11 rikishiboy skipped

7.12 Mario Kart OTC

I'm not sure if MK is here or not, I'm still catching up. If he isn't, he sent me two picks and I'll put the first out shortly.

Here is Mario Kart's pick:

Innovation brings much to gaming. With innovation comes more playability and customization. Moving from the days of one player games to two player games to now million player games has given rise to some great games. But, not many are customizable. You can play with a million different people but you cannot customize those games. Therefore, this game has helped to sell its system and is one reason to buy the system it is on. With over 3 million boards to play that have come from users around the world, I give you:

Mario Kart

Arcade(1) Dragon's Lair (5.12)

Arcade(2) Gauntlet (6.02)

Third Generation (1983-1990)

Should we start thinking about getting a alternate for PitbullTD? He has missed 4 picks and will likely miss another 2 tonight. He has been on footballguys today but did enter this thread.

Did larryboy ever make his pick or did I miss it?
I picked Bejeweled 2... Rikishi I think is skipped, so Mario Kart is up... at 4:24 Mario Kart is skipped, too...
Larry, you were the last person Rikishi sent his pick list to. If he has a game on it, I believe he wanted you to pick it.
pretty sure that was a while ago (like couple picks), I don't have anythign current in my inbox...

I'm not in the draft but I think you guys should just to keep it from dragging on too long. He's missed 4 picks now. Another possible 2 later on. IF he doesn't show for those, I'd say find a replacement.

Here's my squad so far. I think its fairly solid, although sports games are not going as much as I thought. With knowing that, I could of held off on NHL ' 94 for a little bit I think, but its so damn fun.
