Greatest Video Game Draft 2011 (2 Viewers)

25.04 - The King of Kings: The Early Years - NES - Worst Game

It features three games in one and starts off at the 18:20 mark in this video. Warning, there is bad language.

Yes, that's one of his lines I hate. He even admits that he took that joke too far.

Maybe we should just submit our 26th and 27th picks on the way back to end this thing.
Once the 25th round is over, just have people submit there last 2 picks I guess.
Ill say this. This is one of the smoothest drafts I have been in. The fact that interest is waning in the 24th round is commendableNice job running it madshot. Now lets go. I have two characters left to pick
Yes, indeed. I haven't lost my interest, but I do think I've spent far too much time with this draft this past week+ than I should have. I spend far too much time with video games as it is.

5. Yo Mama OTC til XX:316. Yo Mama7. wazoo11- Skipped8. bmarks61619. Slax10. larry_boy_44- Skipped11. rikishiboy- Auto skip 12. Mario Kart13. BlueDredSo
If Yo Mama's clock ran out at 1:31, wazoo was skipped and bmarks' clock ran out at 2:01, I guess that makes it my pick. Correct?

25.09 Pac-Man Championship Edition, XBox Live Arcade, Flex

When picking my final flex spot, I was looking for a few things. I wanted something unique. I wanted a game I really enjoyed playing. And I wanted a game that I thought would still be considered great 10-20 years from now. So I thought back to what go me into playing video games. My first video game was Pong, but I was young and played it over and friends' houses.

The first video game that got me into video games was Pac-Man, the first pick in the draft, and rightfully so. In Kindergarden and 1st grade, I loved Pac-Man. I had Pac-Man everything. Pac-Man lunch box, Pac-Man bed sheets, Pac-Man pajamas, a Pac-Man game watch that I could play a mini-version of Pac-Man on. You name it, I had it. I even still know the lyrics to Pac-Man Fever by heart.

But I have to admit, time wasn't kind to Pac-Man. He had some really stinkers for video games. I won't name them all here to spotlight. After Ms Pac-Man, the series really didn't have the same umph except for to turn up the speed on the machine and go nuts. I loved that.

And then, it was announced. I still remember the day. It was a huge news announcement and all the media outlets picked up on it, as if Michael Jordan came out of retirement. Pac-Man Championship Edition was going to be released on XBLA and first played at the Pac-Man World Championship. At first, I was disappointed at the news and passed it off as "meh", but then I played the demo and I was hooked.

FBG thread on the announcement: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...an+championship

My game write-up from that thread:

First of all, the sights and sounds are different. Think techno and flashy colors.

Also, the board never clears. Once you clear out the dots on one half of the board, a fruit appears on the opposite side (next to the ghost spawn) that you must eat to refresh the dots on that half. Same goes for the other half. This goes on until the time runs out. Depending on which mode you play, you have 5 or 10 minutes to make as most points as you can. If you get eaten by ghosts, you spawn where they killed you.

In addition, power pellets can stack. Say you eat a power pellet, you eat all 4 ghosts, and before time runs out on that pellet (as the ghosts refresh) you eat another. You can eat the 4 ghosts again and continue stacking the score. However, you maxed out the stacking score at 8 ghosts, but you can keep scoring that infinitely as long as you have pellets.

At the end of a game, there is a chart showing how your scoring was achieved and at what interval. So, say at the 2 minute mark, you went nuts on ghosts, it'll show that.

If you have the XBox 360, I recommend at least downloading the trial. Make up your mind from there. Sadly, I doubt Ms Pacman will ever get anymore play time on my 360. May she rest in peace.
The new gameplay changes were what the Pac-Man franchise needed to feel fresh again. This game has been my most played XBox Live Arcade game to date and for a reason. And if you think that's good, you should try the DX version...Note: I've heard that they do have arcade cabinets of this game that they use for tournaments, but I can't say I've ever seen one in person. In fact, I couldn't even find an image of a cabinet in Google, otherwise, I would have likely drafted this for the arcade category a while back.

Gameplay -

I believe it is my pick. Worst game is:

Pac-Man - Atari

I wanted to pick a game I actually played but was also mainstreamed. This one is it.

Sorry, I know what you mean but the game was a port of the arcade, so it can't be picked.
I disagree. I believe this one should count for worst game. It's not a straight port. It was a horrible port and along with ET led to the video game crash of '83. sorry double post

No, its a port. I actually had it projected to go 6th/7th round for my worst game if it was still on the board.

The #1 game in the draft didn't kill Atari. I rule it stays.

Look up Best Game of All-Time and you'll find Pac-Man (Arcade) listed on the list somewhere. Look up Worst Game of All-Time and you'll see Pac-Man (Atari 2600) firmly listed on the list. The same game does not make both lists if it's the same game.

This isn't my pick. I'm trying to be fair here. You know I am. I even knocked myself out of picking NBA Live. And I bet no one else would have even known if I wouldn't have pointed it out.

I know. But it is a port. Doesn't mean its not a terrible terrible port that should have never been made. Re-pick Maro Kart.

25.10 Magus, Villain (Chrono Series)

Why am I picking him? (and who is he?)

Well he starts the game as the leader of the "fiends" (monsters) in the Middle Ages. After you finally defeat him, you are teleported to 12,000 BC and meet him as a child. After destroying his evil mother (revealing the prophet that was advising her to be him) and watching Lavos teleport him (as a child) to the middle ages, you get the choice to kill him or spare him (as he was only trying to save his sister). If you kill him, than that is it, he dies there.

BUT I, along with most people who play this game, choose to spare him. Upon sparing him, he joins your part and helps you defeat Lavos in the end.

Magus also makes an appearance as Gil in a side story visual novel called "Radical Dreamers" and has a character that was supposed to be him in Chrono Trigger's sequel, but plans were changed and it wasn't directly stated to be Magus in the game itself.

I'm not the judge and since you're a participating drafter, I would get Insein to make the final call. It doesn't hurt me at all if he says no. It actually probably strengthens my pick at worst game, instead.

I hate to say it...but if championship edition on the X-Box Arcade can be picked, I don't see how you can say that the Atari version (that really really sucks and only loosely resembles the Arcade game) can't be...

As someone who knows my history of video games and Atari, I'm telling you, that isn't a port. It's an alpha build at best and I'm quoting Tod Frye himself on that.

Championship Edition was a complete redesign. If you want to pick on a sequel, pick on Ms Pac-man!

Magus was a better character than Chrono. There, I said it.

agreed. But they actually gave Magus a story and plot and a personality...Chrono didn't have any of that. If anything, they simply tried to hard to make Chrono "you", when they should have just given him his own personality and character and put him in the story...

25.05 - Bully (PS2) - Best Story

Theme and story cuased a huge amount of controversy.

25.06 - Robotron 2084 (Arcarde) - Flex

Had to get this one somewhere.

Sorry again for the delay.

How could it have gone in the 6th/7th round in the worst game category if the Arcade Pac-Man was picked #1? Seems like a contradiction here, no?

I don't see how you can argue that the Atari 2600 Pac-Man was a port of the arcade game. The maps weren't even the same. That's a big enough difference that it should be considered a separate game IMO.

26.02 - EverQuest - Best Multiplayer Game

I believe this is okay because Blue is on skip as well as rikishi and larry. From what I read above in the thread.

I can't keep up with who is on skip anymore. And what picks have been made up, etc etc..

I think I got skipped. That was only supposed to be for the weekend, by the way.

25.13 - The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - N64 - 5th Generation

26.01 Coming soon...

PM'ing slax my next pick since it would be round 27 and after Blue picks his round 25th, it seems to be a free for all but I am leaving. I have one pick to make for the flex spot and that game is what slax will have in his PM unless Blue makes his pick in the next minute.

Why do we have rules if we are not going to follow them. The atari 2600 Pac-Man is a port. It was horrible, but the original content was to be just like the arcade except the limitations of the hardware made it so it was not possible. So they had to cut corners and make changes. This happens all the time with ports. Its just the Pac-Man one was the worst possibly ever attempted. This would open up hundreds of other ported games for everyone even though your not allowed to dfrat them.

Just chiming in on the Atari Pac Man thing... I don't see how it can be considered the same game (and it's not a port, either.)

Valid pick, in my mind.
